Angel began to walk across the rooftop before Catwoman had a chance to say anything, ask anything, or well, do anything.
Picking up speed he broke into a run, preparing to jump up into the air and to the next building.
Just as he was beginning to get airborn, he felt a sharp tug on his arm, and fell back to the ground.
"What the hell was that about?!" Catwoman hissed thisclose to his face.
"I told you,... Vampire." Angel answered calmly.
"How did you know that, that,.. thing in there was a vampire."
"I could see his fangs." Angel said smartly, but not being dumb enough to smile. To play with his father was one thing, but it was just idiotic to try it with Selina.
Raising her hand uncontrolably, Selina forced herself not to hit her son, it was pointless anyway. The boy had the resolve of a steel wall. Even if he was gushing blood, he wouldn't let you have the satisfaction of knowing you hurt him.
She smiled weakly, he had her pride. Raising the both of them off of the ground, she cupped his chin in her hand. His face was annoyingly vancant of emotion.
He surprised her slightly by speaking, "Have you been doing this all along?"
"No, just tonight."
"Why?" It sounded more like a statement than a question coming from the amazing no-feelings boy!
"You don't need an answer I don't want to give you." Catwoman said sweetly.
"Well I'm sorry if the same thing doesn't apply to me." said a beautifully deep voice, enuncipating almost every word as if it were his last.
Catwoman dropped Angel's face immeadiately, an indescribable look etching itself into her sculptured face. It was as if GOD had chiseled an invisible frown in her features, just for the occasion.
"A.J. Go home." they both said through clenched teeth.
Catwoman turned back around to make sure the statement was a rocksolid in his mind as she intended it to be, only to falter slightly when she saw his eyes.
Small opague lenses masked his beautiful, piercing blue eyes, but failed to hide the question they asked. What the question was she didn't know, what was there to question?
Angel stared at them a second longer before disappearing into the dark alleyway mazes of their city.
**
I heard everything they said that night.
The painful sound of flesh connecting, as she slapped him.
His remark had been cruel.
That had been my first clue to the deep unnatural love and hatred they shared for each other.
But I was only a baby, and wasn't comforted into sleep until I heard their occasional deep moans, and the slow pounding sound. Rythmic dull sounds, they were like a hypnotist watch, ticking one at a time slowly lulling the victim to sleep.
That sound has always been my bedtime story, rarely a night can I sleep without it.
Sometimes I'm told I'm mad, because of the way my emotions work.
I smile when I think of that.
