Well, I don't know if it's mainstream yet, but my bro works for AoL, and in the past we have gotten to try the latest "point 0" AoL before anyone else actually gets it. Anyway...I got up this morning, and sure enough...Aol 8.0 is on our computer now.

Nothing has changed. It's the same layout, new colors, and...*gasp* SHADOWS!!!(you'll see...). Nothing real special. Although when I got on, I was able to chose which "welcome" screen I want. You know that little box that appears with news and weather reports? With the "you've got mail" button? Well...now you can choose between a box that comes up and tells news and sports, stock tips and the related, entertainment news, Video Game reports, and a few others.

I went with the Video game thingy. I think it also reports cartoons and stuff...but, it seemed like the better choice.

Anyway....AoL 8.0....nothing new, really. Nothing to get excited about.

It sounds like these updates are for marketing purposes only. It would be important which welcome page you choose if you are looking for news, but that's about it. Is it slow, as the title of the thread suggests?

It's a crappy, ass-backwards Internet Service that people such as myself are unfortunate enough to have signed up for. And yes, I know that was sarcasm.

AOL 8 has shadows? Sounds like they're trying to copy XP, seems to me though it would be more of a resource hog for something like AOL.

Well I guess Aol 8.0 is here but I am for one not going to upgrade
I had 3.0 for ever then got a new computer which had 5.0 then it messed up so I am currently on 7.0 and thats its unless I have to get a computer in the near future like if my computer is outdated by a year or so.
But Aol is ok not the best ISP there is out there. but I really dont know what other ISP to go with thats reliable well sort of reliable like AOL

I don't plan to upgrade. 5.0 is better than 7 in two ways, so how is 8 any better? Printing is more convenient in version 5.

Yea and that you keep getting free CD's to join AOL but then pay a huge Fee for them, very bad I most ask.

It's all conspiracy, to get people to join AOL and then charge them million dollars for a month to be a memeber... the second part was j/k

I cancelled my AOL about a month ago. I got a self install kit from Comcast for high speed cable modem and while I was running the cable from my wall outlet to my computer, the phone rang. It was an AOL rep apologizing if it wasn't the best time to call, but he wanted to tell me about new AOL 8.0 and how I could get it for free and get back online under my old screen name for a limited time. I said, he was right, it wasn't the best time to call, I was in the middle of installing my cable modem, and hung up on him.

Well best that you did that then, because AOL would be charging you even more.

They act like that even though each version is no better than the previous one.

What I hate even more about AOL is that it forces their media player crap on to your computer, which causes conflicts with other media players on my computer. When I got AOL 7.0, their media player caused problems on my other media players, and I know I am not the only person who has had AOL jack other programs up on their computer, as I know somebody who used to work for their help desk. So I called them trying to resolve the issues, and was told that the problems were with my other programs, and I needed to contact the people who made them, regardless of the fact that they worked fine before AOL 7.0. They were not phased by the fact that it was their program that caused my problems. Oh, and since I stopped using AOL 7.0, I've had no problems using my media players online. Imagine that, huh! So I wonder how badly 8.0 will mess up systems?
