During my trip to Boston last weekend (I PROMISE to post a thread about it this week), I met this girl that shared the same interests as me and all of that other cool stuff. Anyway, I gave her my phone number and she gave me her e-mail address...

At that time, I'm happy as nails, but then I realized that she gave me her e-mail address which sucks. Why does it suck, you ask....because I have been spoiled by Instant Messaging...

I have AIM and my screenname is "Dark Spider Zero" (Any cute girls out there, you can IM me :) ). I have been using AIM for like 6 months now and its the coolest thing in the internet world. You can have a real time conversation with anyone you want. I have formed many friends on AIM and the conversations have been amazing. I still remember the time I was discussing "love" with one of my AIM friends (Remember that one Brainy Buddy?).

Now with e-mail, you basically send one message to a friend, and you have to wait until she replies....which could take forever. This is the case with the girl from above. I sent her an e-mail on Monday and I still haven't got a reply from her yet. Waiting for her reply is like scraping the flesh off of my back. Its wickedly annoying. With AIM, if you send a message, a reply comes back to you instantly...hence, instant messenger.

Do any of you feel the same way with E-mail and AIM? I just had to get this off my chest because I'm still waiting for her stupid e-mail. I'm starting to think she blew me off (er...I can't believe I said that :o )...but why would she go through the trouble of giving me her e-mail address in the first place. I'm still waiting...

I hear ya, Dark Spider. A lot of the time when I exchange phone numbers or e-mail addresses, it's a few days before I hear back from them. This is the case particularly with e-mail. Maybe that girl you met isn't online as consistantly as you are - but hey, you sent it on Monday, right? That's only two days. I wouldn't worry. Let her respond at her own pace. If she cares, she will - and I bet she will. Some people just have busy lives and aren't online too often. Don't take it too personally.

All I can suggest is to NOT e-mail her again too soon - that would look like you're being too clingy and would likely cause her to back away. Just let her go at her own pace, and I'm sure she'll write back eventually. :)

And yes, AIM has spoiled me, too - not so much because it's pretty much a real-time conversation, but because of all the people I know because of it. *SEARCHES THE ROOM* Yep, you all know who you are. *WAVES*

I enjoy AIM less than I do a phone call, which I can't stand. I can't see the person I'm talking to, I can't hear or listen to the person I'm talking to, I can't even see the person's own writing (if it was a letter, for example). How much more impersonal can it get?

Sorry.

Later.

I'm online like everyday...but its only for like 40 minutes though. I can't be online like I used to last year and over the summer.

I haven't been spoiled by AIM yet. Mainly 'cause no one PMs me. **starts crying** Anybody got some cheese to cheer me up? :D

Personally I like e-mail much better. Even though I am slow at replying. It generally takes me no more than 3 days to respond(ok well as of the last month), and if I don't, then something has happened. With instant messangers, theres a whole bunch of pauses, because generally when I am talking to somebody on messangers, I don't know them. So its hard for me to make conversation even if I really want to. I think I usually ending up boring them. E-mail on the other hand, you dont' have those awkward pauses, and you don't have to respond instantly. And for some reason, for me, I can get to know somebody better through e-mail.

*gives ssgogeta some cheese* There ya go! :D

I don't really use AIM (cause my grandpa won't let me) but I do get to use MSN Instant Messenger. I'm not exactly spoiled by that, yet, though.... No one PM's me anymore, either. :( :p
