Subject: Information pertaining to the One Week War
-------------
I've recently started watching the Gundam series in timeline order, and I have seen some things about the One Week War. I was wondering, does anybody know where I can find more information about the beginning of the One Year War, Operation British, etc? Sorry if this has already been asked. If so, could you direct me to the thread in which this is answered?
Thanks,
jlh
P.S. Wondering about the form? Just a little thing I wanna try out, see if I'm comfortable with it.

Short version, strait from Gundam Project (or at least what's left of it):
"UC 0079.01.03
The One Year War begins. The period from January 3 through 10 becomes known as the One Week War.
The Principality of Zeon declares war against the Earth Federal Government, simultaneously launching surprise attacks on Sides 1, 2 and 4. NBC (Nuclear, Biological and Chemical) weapons are used indiscriminately, and a colony drop operation drastically changes Earth's climate."

Suffice?

The one week war is what made such people as Ramba Ral, the Black Tri Star and Char famous.
Their the Zeon and Federation launched attack after attack on each other.
Feddies and Zeon launched nuclear attack after Nuclear attack on each other. During the fighting General Revil was captured by the black tristar.
The resulting chaos caused the loss of about half the human population.
Operation Britain was what happened when the Zeon gassed a colony and than sent it to Earth. The planned target was jaburo in South America but it was knocked off course and hit Sydney, Australia causing a giant sea to appear where once their was human life. The Zeon planned to use this to swiftly end the war. Instead they were able to only gain control of 2/3s of the Earth.
Due to the one week war and Operation Britain, the Feddies met with the Zeon to sign a treaty to end the war. During the discussions, General Revil escaped from the Zeon and made a stirring speech about how the Zeon where also tired, the speech gave the Feds new hope. The meeting was still on but with the Feds new vigor the treaty ended up banning all weapons of mass destruction ending the Nuclear attacks, gassing of colonies, and banning colony drops. It also banned the attacking of the Jupiter fleet since both sides used it for its resources. This was the Antartic treaty.
The Antartic Treaty caused a stalemate and during this time the federation put its resources into researching MS technology due to the sucess of the Zeon's Zaku 2. The resulting successes resulted in the Pegasus class ship, beam weapon technology, Guntank, Guncannon, GMs. and the Gundam.

Interesting that they mentioned the Jupiter Fleet in that info, since we only hear about that when Charlia Bull shows up towards the end of MS Gundam. (actually, a source said he was to be a recurring character in the original series, but they never did it and he just shows up to be the first "test" Newtype, since they did not trust Char's admiration for Lalah)
Of course, the Antartic Treaty said nothing on spying, and we all know what Char was doing around Side 7 that lead to the war restarting again.
BTW: I remember both Char and the Tri-Stars making their mark at the "Battle of Loum" in the One-Week War. But when did Ramba Ral make his mark during this time? (I sort of forgot)
Thank you for the information, it made a lot of things clearer and helped me move forward in my knowlege of Gundam.

Some minor corrections...
The One Week War was the Zeon's attack on Sides 1, 2, and 4, which was largely unexpected, which is why the Zeons were able to completely destroy all 3 sides. This is when Operation British(the colony drop) took place.
After that disaster, the Federation was prepared at Side 5 with nuclear weapons, and the two sides proceeded to launch them at each other, resulting in Side 5 being completely destroyed. This was the Battle of Loum, when Revil was captured, when Char destroyed 5 Federation ships by himself, etc...
The One Week War and the Battle of Loum are not the same thing. That is all :p
