At what episode in Mobile Suit Gundam do they start "The One Year War" (if they do at all, having never seen the full series)? I've been wanting to see this war forever seeing as how most/all good gundam series have been based on the U.C. timeline.
Yay, 300!

The War was happening when Gundam started..
The one year war is 0079.. so you've gotta watch it all..

The One Year war started in January 0079. The series starts in September 0079. So take a guess about when we start seeing it :p They never show a lot of the famous battles (the intros in the early eps are all we see of the One Week War/Operation British/Battle of Loum) and really screw us when it comes to the battle of Odessa (get a whole half an episode dedicated to it after talking about it for ten), but we atleast get a few well known ones like Solomon in there. As famous as the war is, the show's main focus is Gundam, Amuro, and White Base, so many parts of the war that aren't directly affected by them are seriously downplayed. The leaders of the organizations for example, we never really see the leaders of the Feds and only see the Zabis for about 5 out of 43 episodes because the show's main focus is White Base.

Yeah, basically what Sheamon said. It would be nice to see a series about pre-MSG events but....

You got to love those wacky Zeons with their wacky dropping of colonies on earth.

Yep, all this stuff you see in MSG is the One Year War. Another side of the war is seen throughout 08th MS Team, and yet another (very small) perspective of it is seen in 0080 (the series, not the year). There are also various video games and manga that show even more, like Blue Destiny and Rise From the Ashes.
Basically, the OYW goes from Januray 0079 to January 0080, with A Boa Qu being the final battle.
Personally, I think they REALLY need to make an OVA about the "One Week War," where the heaviest fighting took place and characters such as Ramba Ral, Char, and the Black Tri Stars earned their fame. But they probably won't, seeing as how the Federation didn't have mobile suits yet at that time. -_-

OK, my bad, my bad. When I said one year war I meant Battle Of Solomon. :p I knew that the One Year War was from 0079-0080 (hence the name....One Year).
Solomon is around episode 38. It's my favorite ep.

The Battle of Soloman is what the guys in 0083 were paying tribute to when Gato fired the nuke, right?
Also, was the Battle of Soloman a major turning point? I hear them reference it a lot, so I imagine it must be, but just wondering.

No, the battle of Solomon is the first major naval engagment of Operation Star One, the Feddie's plan to win space. It was a turning point.For the Feds, because Vice Grand Admiral Dozel Zabi dies in the battle.

Solomon's episodes 35 and 36 (34 and 35 in our version). Very good battle, certainly worthy of the hype (especially in the second episode), unlike that other big battle already mentioned.... that is mentioned so much yet is so insignificant in the show -_-
*spoilers*

Gato fired the nuke
, right?
Yep, that was it. (Gato, not the Feds. That was simply a naval review) Solomon's called Konpei Island in 0083, its the big asteroid base that Gato fires the nuke at.

Its the Federation's first big space victory. Odessa's their first big victory in the war after getting slaughtered for 9 months, Solomon's the second, A Boa Qu's the last.

What episode did we see Saturday? Also, do we get to see A Boa Qu in MSG and if so what episode is that?

Last Saturday was #13. The battle of A Boa Qu is the very last couple of episodes in the series (42 and 43, I think).

Awwww crap. So it'll be quite awhile before we see any of the legendary battles. Also, ohmrbill, I can't find the post where I requested the info on the "Gundam Project" so can you tell me on this thread?

I know, they spend a lot of time hyping up Odessa and all it gets is a half of an episode (as well as the scene in an ep. of 08th Team)
Besides, from what I hear, they skip Odessa in the Movies after Amuro finishes off the Black Tri-Stars. Fine by me, since it gets to Miharu and the return of Char faster

Sure. Copying and pasting from the old thread.
Gundam Project was the best source of Gundam information on the internet (or even anywhere, for that matter). Unfortunately, it has long since closed down. You still find it through the Wayback Machine (http://www.archive.org) here: http://web.archive.org/web/20010708125437/www.gundamproject.com
A lot of pages are missing from the archive, though (I'm glad I saved everything I could to my HD before it went away :p). The "gundam world" section is for general information such as timelines and explanations for the science behind everything, and "gundam works" is for series-specific information like credits and MS/character profiles.

Do you know that the RX7(G) Gundam Ground suits that Shiro Amada and the 08th MS Team employs, where semi-toned down mass-production versions of Amaro's Gundam?

Yep, there were only 20 made. :D They were constructed at Jaburo to be somewhat like extended prototypes of the RX-78-1.

But I don't get it. If Amuro was successful with his Gundam (of course, Newtype powers did come into play there) and Shiro and the 08th Team were also good with their Gundams, why did the Federation just turn around and mass-produce GMs instead?

Why did the US produce a bunch of Shermans(GMs, if we use parallels) when it was possible to produce something close to the level the Russians(Gundams) or German( Rick Doms and Gelgoog)?

Cost. Gundams are far too expensive for mass production. Besides, technically, GM's are considered to be mass-produced versions of the Gundam. Real life fact: prototypes are always far more expensive than their mass-produced counterparts.

Oh yeah, if you really want to see all of the major battles in less than two hours (Including some bonus scenes!), rent Gundam: The Movie III, it has:
* The White Base's escape from Side 6
* SOLOMON
* Assualt on the Texas Colony (The only time we see Char's Gelgogg)
* A space conflict...where someone DIES
* A 1960's sequence
* A BOA QU
* A solar ray eradicate most of the Federation Fleet

So if I want to buy the DVDs to MSG, I should buy the movies rather than the actual series?

Depends if you like subs or dubs. The TV series is dub-only and the movies are sub-only.
IMO, I think the movie trilogy is a little better because it's much more to the point and cut out a lot of the cheesiness hat was so prominent in the TV series. The downside is that they can be a jumbled mess at times do to them splicing together and chopping out episodes of the TV series (but if you've already seen the TV series, it shouldn't be much of a problem).
