Angel Links centers around the Links Group security firm introduced in one of the latter Outlaw Star episodes, with Duuz and Valeria being regular characters. The show shares the same basic universe... Ships look and function similarly, etc., but other than that, the connection is pretty thin and the show itself isn't nearly as good as Outlaw Star.

Also, as you have probably seen in Outlaw Star, there are 3 factions... the Pirates, the Outlaws, and the Security Forces. The Angel Links is part of the Security Force, which begs me to ask this question:

Will there ever be an Outlaw Star spinoff that shows the pirates' point of view? Or how about a second season? The door is left wide open, but so far no one has bit. Come on Sunrise/Bandai, let's get going!!

How many years ago was the original Outlaw Star created?

I heard they're making (or made) an OAV series that continues the plot of Outlaw Star, same characters and everything.

Outlaw Star didn't do particularly well Japan, but did well enough in the U.S. to be considered a hit. I've heard a second season is under consideration. The crystal ball says "Cloudy, ask later".

Personally I think it'll happen down the road, if ASA is successful.

The show was made in Japan in 1998 and became an import to America in 2000 on Toonami, where it had a very, very healthy run. So far it has finished one run on ASA and will start another one next week, although it may be pre-empted half way through for GitS: SAC or Big O 2. That's what I know.
