Picture this: The internet comes to our High School and everyone starts getting email addresses. I want one too. My sis tells me to sign up at Hotmail. I do so. I keep an active account over the next couple of years. Over those years, some retard janitor sneaks in, deletes whatever the heck he or she or it wants to, and leaves. No explanation. No way of getting the letters back. I put up with it. It doesn't happen too often, and Hotmail soon upgrades the system with a "space metor" which warns me when my account is heading over the set limit.

I check my account today. Right now. It's empty. Everything's gone. No old letters from five years ago. No Junk Mail. Nothing. And the last time I checked, my metor wasn't close to being run out.

Profanities. I want to scream profanities. Don't you?

I didn't know they hired mentally challenged people as janitors.

One thing I noticed recently (too late, of course  ) is that any messages in the "Sent Messages" folder are automatically deleted after 30 days! I don't know how many letters I lost because of this. Now, I could just stick stuff in the "Drafts" folder, but instead, I made my own folder called "Stupid Hotmail!" :p

I'd rather go with Yahoo. You could leave your account alone for 3-4 months and your account won't go away. Granted, it also won't automatically delete your email unless you want to.

so you are mad at hotmail, because you don't log out of the system, and people mess with your email...

Uhm....that's all I wanted to say....

I mean...really...I bet you $5 your schools use a cookies program...of course you have to log out. What Janitor could resist seeing an open account on a computer, and decide to mess with it?

Actually for awhile now they've had a bulk mail thing where it's like a seperate inbox but e-mails that you recieve that the system qualifys as spam (you also have an option on e-mails to report an e-mail address saying "this is spam") and when an e-mail is in there for more than 30 days it gets automatically deleted.

Yep, I'm upset with Hotmail, too, but it's because of the massive spam that I receive in the Junk Mail folder. Never, ever give your e-mail address to anyone you don't know. I know it's illegal for companies to hand out e-mail addresses to other companies without your consent, but it happens anyway.

Later.

Yea, but you can always turn that thing off.

(checks his statistics in Eudora)

I daily recieve about 95 emails a day, but I only actually read 4% of them. So about 96% of the 95 emails I recieve every day are spam.

Well you really can't complain that much about hotmail, its free and you get what you pay for. Hotmail actually does a lot to stop spamming and junkmail. It doesn't have half the advertisements that yahoomail has and since its free, you can't have unlimited time and space on their servers. I've never had that much of a problem with hotmail, its a good deal for the price.

Word to the Wise about internet e-mail:

1)If you want to save a letter you received or a letter you sent, why not just save it using notepad? If i get a great link or mail, I copy it and save it to notepad, and then I have it always, and I can delete it off of my hotmail account, leaving space open and not having to worry about random things getting deleted or spied on.

2)IF YOU ARE ON A PUBLIC COMPUTER....make sure that either the cookies are turned off, that you log out of everything, and that you DON'T SAVE PASSWORDS ON IT. Personally, If i see someone has left their stuff open, I log out for them, but I'm nice like that, don't count on the kindness of strangers. I know many people who have lost their AIM, mail, and other accounts because of that.

3) Get more than one account, its FREE!! You can get one hotmail account and set the settings so that the only mail that will come into it are from family and friends. You can have another one for junkmail so that you can get every free signup thing on the web and everytime you log into your junkmail account, you can just indescriminately delete everything.

Well that's my advice anyway.

Well, for starters I always log out of my account - that goes without saying. However, I still lose mail left and right thanks to those janitors...

I would think that tampering with the mail should be just as illegal, even in electronic form. I guess your school just doesn't care if they know what's going on. Those janitors should be fired! :) Has anyone ever told the school board about this?

I agree that you get what you pay for, but I get so much junk mail it's sick. My bulk mail folder has at least 100 new items in it every day, and I still get tons of spam in my regular box (30 - 40 items). And, every time I try to Block Senders, I get a message telling me that my block senders list is full. So basically, I hate Hotmail too, but I'm too lazy to change my email address, so I just deal with it  .

And BTW, the major portion of spam I get is the sickest, most disgusting stuff you will ever see. I never open it, but the subject line is enough to make me blush. Don't ask me how these weirdos got my address, but it's like being sexually harassed every time I open my email inbox  .

Try this out and maybe it'll help relieve some of that junk mail you're getting. It's an email that was circulated around last spring and summer. It helped my friends who are hotmail users stop the sudden influx of junk mail they recieved this year. :)

>Did you know that about 2 months ago MSN added 2 little boxes in all the profiles? These boxes if marked share your email with otherusers. One box, if ticked, gives other people the right to see your information including your address. Now MSN has taken all the passports that were created before they added this and marked YES SHARE MY INFORMATION and did not tell anyone. (!!!!)

HOW to remove your name: sign into your email account (for those with more then 1 you have to do it for all of them), click on Options then Personal Profile and scroll to the bottom ... u will see the TWO added boxes - remove the check marks and finish up. PLEASE FWD this to everyone who has hotmail lets not wait until it is too late (this may decrease all that junk mail that seems to have doubled lately).<

Thanks for the tip, Twilight! :D

Now, here are two examples at the opposite ends of the e-mail spectrum:

A) A friend of mine does ZERO web surfing, but his inbox was always packed with spam, 99% of which was porno garbage.

B) I surf regularly and receive very, very little spam. We're talking an average of maybe one per month over the last three years or so. Seriously. Same with my brother's account. It's awesome!
