According to Animenewsnetwork.com, both "Big O 2" (kinda) and "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex" premiered on Japanese television yesterday (that's Tuesday, October 1, folks). Also of note is that the "Big O" series started with the first season, not the second, so this might be an indication that we could see the first season of "Big O" on Adult Swim.
So all you lucky base turds who in some way get to see these show in Japan, let us know what they're like.
The article can be found here, although there's not that much else:

If what you said is true about showing Big O 1 on ASA then a lot of peeps will get there wish to see "a Toonami show uncut!" I guess it will be good since my memory on Big O is a little sketchy, but as soon as Big O 2 comes around it's gonna be sweet. And I can't wait to see the plot of GitS:SAC. :D

My friend should be sending me tapes in about 2 weeks,I'll give some impressions then and I should head back on over to the orient by the end of the month so I'll get some feedback from the promotion of it all.I can tell you now GitS is probably toted HARD,even back in July it was hyped like a mother****er

How many times must it be said? Big O part 1 will NOT air on Adult Swim. There is not enough time between now and the premiere to do so. If Big O 1 was going to air, it would begin THIS SATURDAY. We're not getting Big O 1, at least not until after part 2 airs.

And that seems like a weird timing with Big O 2, I aways though they would start with the first season..

Actually, the new episodes haven't aired yet. The series is starting with the first season. According to the article, the new episodes should air in about three months.

Sheesh, that's mightily lame. Big O 1 ends with a complete cliffhanger; if ASA won't show the first season, aren't people who didn't see it on Toonami (or who don't own the dvds) going to be totally confused?

So does this mean that Big O 2 is likely to be premiering in Japan and on ASA in America at roughly the same time? That would be. . .interesting. . .and unexpected. . .and pretty cool!
Wait a second! Even if they were to show Big O 1 first, wouldn't we see the Toonami edited version? Because the Toonami version sucked ass. So would they show a different dub or the same one on Toonami.
Wow, that would be intresting to see an Anime that will air at the same time in both countries

Fox did that. Both Japan and America aired Digimon Season 2 at the same time for a while. Then Fox held back.

Due to the fact that Big O aired in Japan in 1999 they needed to show the first 13 episodes first. If the second season of Big O was to air in Janruary the episodes would have to be aired at the same time as the Japanese version, that is no where near enough time to properly dub it and both CN and Bandai know that, their not going to waste money with a bad dub.

Since the January release date for Big O 2 is not set in stone, it's totally up to speculation whether they'll show Big O 1 first. I happen to agree with you that they PROBABLY won't show Big O 1 first, but jeez, calm down about it.

Think things through before you speak. It's not like they don't give it to Bandai to dub until the week it airs. Voice recording for both versions will take place at the same time. I don't see how that would be a problem. We already have established characters, and everything we need to do to dub the anime also has to be done by the Japanese.

We also have to translate the lines, and than we have to re-write the lines to fit the mouth flaps. Also if I remember right in Japan they began dubbing when a scene is finished, in America you typically have to wait until the episode is finished. Than you have to have each actor meet one at a time with the Voice director to dub their lines, they don't do that in Japan. I would say that it takes longer to dub a scene in english than in japan for that reason.

Even if they did, I'd estimate the series will be done about late November. That still gives a month left to dub it. They have plenty of time.

I still feel that would be rushed.
They would have to do three episodes a week and with Animaze's busy schedule(especially David Lucas) that doesn't give them a lot of time to do those three episodes.

They don't need the entire series done by January, and the entire series would be done by November. The first few episodes have already been completed. Don't worry about it, it'll be fine.
