What the hell was that? Dull, bland, sterile, all those words can describe that. Yeesh, the Mambo Gallego (sp?) remix you culd sit back and groove out to, but this...this is crap.

I don't think I even WANT to know what the accompaning visuals are gonna look like... :(

(edit - the comedy one at least. I got it before lfv added the action one and the links were screwy.)

(edit again jsut to keep this from getting flooded) OK, the new ASA theme is, "alright". I am just really partial to the one we have now with the swirling lights and robot voice (which I've grwon to really like...)

So, overall, I'm not impressed and will SORELY miss the music we have now.

I like the ASA one. It's got the Joe Boyd Vigil(Guy who did most of the Toonami music) DnB feel, but makes it its own.

ASC is OK. They remixed the lifeguard! And the track has a little funk in it. I think it would have been a little better if they had just remixed the ASC theme rather than redo it, because I kind of liked it, but I think this one will do fine.

On their own, they're fine but nothing special. The ASA theme sounds pretty good, while the ASC theme is average. But the only way I'll know if they really work is when I see the accompanying visuals, because the visuals can make or break these songs. But I'm not that worried, because CN knows how to do visuals (not counting the shots of old people swimming).

The ASC one sounds very familiar to the music in "Mushroom Samba", but not as good. Can't even compare to "Mambo Gallego"

Killtacular
10-02-2002, 02:56 PM
No, it certainly can't compare to "Song that makes AS seem unoriginal to the mainstream market for using a song that almost every hollywood company owns in his collection now".

Also, remember that these tracks will be abbreviated for the actual intro. They'll shorten them to 30 seconds or so, and get rid of the repetitive or less interesting loops.

Haven't listened to them yet (can't at work), but I'm left wondering if this means that the new looks for the blocks are very close...perhaps even this weekend?

(Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?)

Killtacular

The new looks are likely already done.

The Adult Swim logo has changed. It's still "adult swim" in red text on a black dot on a white background, but now it's on a piece of film, and the white looks yellowed.

Adult Swim Comedy's icon on Blue Tube's website shows a lifeguard giving mouth-to-mouth to Master Shake, throw his straw. I don't know if this has anything to do with the intro, or if this was just from a piece of promotional material.

Probably promotinal. The ASA with some nice mech combat would be workable. ASC, not so good. But anything is better than old farts in a pool.

Jeeze, in my opninion these are horrible songs. They should just stick with the current songs because to me they will always be ASC and ASA themed songs. Also, they sound too much alike.

Ah, yes, heaven forbid that the themes for two blocks with the same name should sound similar. ;)

Same names but filled with completely different shows. That's my point of view. :D

Try right-clicking on the link at the top of the thread, then "Save Target As..."

As far as the clips goes, the comedy one sounds too much like ATHF to me, and the action sounds a lot like Toonami to me. I guess they could work. With ASC I'm thinking that it ain't broke, so why fix it...

Later.

I'm gonna have to go against the trend here... I actually like the new songs. The ASC one is very funky and has a nice groove to it, and the ASA one makes me think James Bond.

Thanks for sharing these. :)

Well then, if they sound similar but one's more "comedy" and one's more "action" then I have no problem with it.

*goes to listen to them now that he's home*

Bah, screw you guys, I like 'em both! :p

They're both pretty good, although I like ASA's theme a bit more between the two. Really interested now in seeing how they'll be with the visuals.

What would we ever do without Tyler, we'd probably sit in a cave on Mars with our eyes closed and our fingers in our ears in the dark. That and we wouldn't have TDA. Now that's hell on Earth :D

Also, will both AS's bechanged this upcoming weekend and will include the new music and visuals or will I get a chance to tape the last airing of the "old school" openings. However, I checked on Adult Swim Central (http://www.adultswimcentral.com/) and according to them they will be up and running "very" soon. Hopefully it will be somewhat like an Adult Swim TDA with it's Media Section.

why did asa get the better of the 2 damn you CN

Killtacular
10-02-2002, 08:35 PM
There's no guaranteeing that they'll launch this month. It's possible that it could be this month, since it's CN's 10th Anniversary.

But given that all the new episodes are in November (anyone wanna bet that they'll be advertised BEFORE 10 PM this time?), I think they'll wait until then.

If there was gonna be a design change this week, they probably would've changed the look of the commercials to reflect it.

As far as the ASC song, it's blah. Not interesting, not catchy, not bad, but definitely not good. CN could do so much better. I'm sure MC Chris or Schooly D could do so much better.

Sorry, guys, but I am not impressed. I don't know, maybe with the addition of visuals, plus constantly having to listen to them in order to watch my favorite shows, they will grow on me; but my first impression is extremely "eh" and "bleh".

And what was wrong with all the old people swimming? I thought they were pretty amusing (especially "Betty, Betty, Betty"; I'm gonna miss her! :p ).

Um... that's pretty awful.

Niether are catchy, or particularly memorable or stand out. It sounds like a bunch of synths and samples thrown together.

There's a reason so many companies use the Mambo Gallego remix.

I, too, would hate to see the accompanying visuals. By the sounds of it, it'll be full of more flickering lights and rapid cuts than an upstart MTV commercial director's debut movie.

Please, stay with deadpan, lackadaisial shots of the pool with old people. Even ASA's design is kinda restrained, and minimal (I.E. the dominant dark screen with the streams of colors and the large white text. The music, for the most part, is darker and slower).

I don't know. Maybe I just have different taste is music. God knows how much old ragtime stuff I have. :P

Just a little add-on from my earlier opinion.

I decided to listen to the songs with some quality TV headphones - you know, the kind you wear when you want to watch TV but everyone else in the same room wants to sleep, the kind that makes every noise sound crisp and clear - yeah, I used those.

One word: WHAM!

The ASA theme sounds a lot more fuller and richer and very rhythmic; it's already got my seal of approval. The ASC theme is also sounds better, although it's still a little bit subtle. Still, these songs sound a lot better than when I listened to them on my tinny laptop speakers.

But of course, not everyone is going to have such headphones when the songs are played on Adult Swim. That means the visuals will have to "become the headphones," so to speak. But you know what? I don't think we should've heard these songs without first seeing the visuals. Who knows? CN just might change certain things with the themes, just like when they muffled "Mambo Gallego" in certain parts.

I, too, would hate to see the accompanying visuals. By the sounds of it, it'll be full of more flickering lights and rapid cuts than an upstart MTV commercial director's debut movie.

And I suppose the original ASA theme had nice, long "DBZ"-like pans. In my opinion, the cuts with the new themes feel like they won't be any faster.

Actually, I'm starting to be reminded of when we were worried about the "Inu-Yasha" dub. Maybe we should actually wait until we see the song's accompanying visuals before we really get worked up. You want to curl in disgust now? Fine, that's your own decision. Me, I'm going to enjoy the ASA theme and try to imagine some wacked-out visuals in my head.

Did I say "little" add-on? Feh. I lied.

If I had liked the themes, I'm sure I would be OK and doing just that.

And don't mind me. I'm just a cog in the Internet's rampant-speculation machine.

True arxane, I don't feel like standing by and watching people flame this before it is aired. I, myself, have gotten use to the ASA music and hypnotic flashing screens, lol. I can picture the new music going with steadier visuals or the same seizure-causing visual. Feh, doesn't matter to me, as long as I get to see some anime.

For a promo teaser (if a very tiny picture counts), check out MK12's website (http://media.mk12.com/mk12v4/index2.html). Load their flash bullcrap, and then click on the throwing star ("WORK") find Cartoon Network on there, and you'll see a tiny hint of what's to come.

Check out that company's other work and you guys will realize you have nothing to worry about.

Williams Street should just remix the current familar music with new visuals for the upcoming new AS openings/bumpers. It would be better. The new openings just don't sound quite right.

ASC - it has a cool hip hop feel
ASA- cool rock/industrial feel

Both of em kick ass but ASA sounds alot beter to me and i already see scenes in my mind (from the trailer) of GIS- SAC going with this lmao.

Production wise, the songs are pretty solid. They are both on par with the originals done for Toonami by Joe Boyd Vigil. They could be more interesting in production aspect, but considering what's usually done for this kind of thing.

Composition wise, they aren't quite as nice as the better Toonami tracks ("Depth Charge" and "Broken Promise" are IMHO, better than the ASA theme and ASC theme). They are a bit more interesting than the current themes for both blocks. Personally, I would have pushed the ASA theme towards Tech Step Drum n' Bass rather than the Drum n' Bass/Industrial hybrid it is and I would have played with a bit more turntablism tricks in the ASC theme.

All in all though, they are pretty solid.

Eh....They were OKAY. I don't know, I just couldn't get over the "High School Yearbook Video" feel they both had to them, particularly ASC. Can't you just picture the unenthused teenage voice over?

"this year, the swim team finished 5th place" cut to clips....

I definitely prefer the old ASC theme, but we'll see. Maybe it'll grow on me.
