The first era of cartoon cartoons will eventually be closing in. All of the shows that were based from what a cartoon are disapearing. The next genneration is just startingAll of our favorites, there contracts are running out and some there story ideas. Here are there standing points.
Powerpuff Girls- 2003, will probably mark the end of it. The movie semi-flopped, but the fan base is huge and is overall a good show. This will probably be the longest running 1st genneration cartoon cartoon.
Johnny Bravo- It ended in 2001.Specials could be possible.
Dexter's Labratory- Won't have a future to much longer.I don't think a cartoon could be brought back for the third time after a previous hiatus.2003, could be the end.
Cow and Chicken- Long ago cancelled, as well as I am Weasel.
Courage- This favorite has picked up some some more new fans in its fourth season, but due to contract it wouldn't make any new episodes after it ends.Unless a hiatus is taken or the contract is (maybe) renewed.Nov. 2002 might mark the end.
*Sheep,Mike,Lu,Og, Time Squad,What Ever Happened to Robot Jones?,Grim & Evil, Kids Next Door.Ed,Edd, and Eddy,Sam. jack are not the 1st genneration*

Ed Edd n Eddy is first generation. It came out a few months before Courage...Ed Edd n Eddy will probably end the 4th season and the show in mid-to-late 2003.

Johnny Bravo
Cow and Chicken
I'm Weasel

Secong Generation Cancelled
-------------------------------------
Sheep in the Big City
I put Mike, Lu, Og in First generation because it premeired the same night as Courage. As for the Future of Cartoon Cartoons, your right, the first generation is coming to a close and the Second has just begun. Right now Samurai Jack, Justice League, and Whater Happened to Robot Jones are leadind the Generation and who knows what kinda effect Codename: Kids next Door will have, but don't worry Cartoon Cartoons is here to stay.
Unlike Nick, Cartoon Network knows what makes a good Cartoon. I know alot of yall think when Dexter, Courage, Eds, and the Powerpuffs are gone, Cartoon Cartoons are doomed for failure, but we don't know anything until 2003 comes. I bet you we'll see series of Kitty Bobo, Jeffery Cat, and Lowbrow or something completly original and funny. Who knows maybe the creators of the shows from the First generation will give us somthing. So keep up the good work Cartoon Network.

Uh.....
If Courage is First Generation, then so is The Eds. They premired BEFORE Courage did. Both in 1999.
Besides I think it's fair to say that the first 6 out of the 12 are considered First Gen. That would be:
Dexter: First CC. Had great eps in Seasons 1 and 2. I just don't find the newer ones that funny. It has a 4th season, but that can be changed you know. I think it will stay the same. Premired '96
Cow and Chicken: Cancelled after 1 (or maybe 2) season. I thought is it was semi funny. Premired '97
***I for one never considered "I am Weasel" a seperate Cartoon Cartoon. So it doesn't count for me as the first 6. It was always with Cow and Chicken and even after it seperated it was mere shorts From C and C put into 21 mins.
Bravo: I loved the First season. The 2nd wasn't so great. That might be why it was only 2 seasons long. Premired '97
PPG: Right. more than likely will be the longest First Gen. Cartoon. It has a big fan base and make CN the most money (cause their face is on Everything) I never really got into them as much as most people did. Premired 11/98
Eds: Anyone who visits here often knows this is my Favorite. 4
Seasons long. (if it wasn't for the Creator, this might have been as long as PPG could have gone. But not dissing Danny cause he wants to move on) Best CC for it's originality not for Battling Monsters and saving the world and mystical creatures and scientific stuff and Sci Fi and fantasy....(20mins later) that other Cartoons seem to mimic of each other. The Eds are just guys growing up, and that's cool cause I can relate to it. Most people can, unlike the others. Premired 1/99
***Fingers crossed for the movie***
Courage: Also 4 Seasons long, not sure as to why they will stop it. It has a very loyal fanbase and it's a good cartoon. Premired 6/99
Okay, I'll shut up now.

Ok, I don't mean to be picky about this, but if a character's head doesn't pop out of the letter "O" of the Cartoon Cartoons logo and say "Cartoon Cartoons" before the program, then its not a Cartoon Cartoon. 2 Stupid Dogs, Justice League, and Samurai Jack are not Cartoon Cartoons.
You all seem to say that Generation One was from about 1996 - 98, and Generation Two is from 98 to the present. One thing I think you're forgetting that each year they have "Cartoon Cartoons Weekend" they are getting a bunch of shorts that are added into the pot of the "What A Cartoon!" show, and are sometimes pulled out of obscurity to be made into a series. Robot Jones was on the first CCF weekend, and 2 years later it pops up as a series. Its more about timing.
As for the shows that were cancelled, lets all remember that not all of them were "cut off" by the network. Shows such as "Cow and Chicken" were ended on good terms. Many times the creators simply want to move on to different projects. After the current season of the "Eds" and "Courage" they will both be ending. Danny A., the creator of the Eds, told the network he wanted to do something new, and now he is. I'm unsure if John of Courage wanted to move on, but he soon will. Basically it is a mutual parting sometimes.

It's been noted that as long as Craig wants it to continue, it will continue.
That actually applies with most of the Cartoon Cartoons. CN has been good with respecting the creator's visions, which is a far cry from the way the other studio's work (especially WB!)

David Feiss wanted to pursue other opportunites so he ended Cow and Chicken/I.M. Weasel. His latest gig was the Cheetos commercial. I'm thinking Antonucci will do another cartoon series--his Brothers Grunt on MTV was merely an offshoot of the station ID ads, but EEnE was a sleeper hit. I'm hoping he does something rather creative that appeals to both kids and adults.
Then, Craig McCracken with the success of the Powerpuff Girls is now given carte blanche to do another series, similar to Gennedy Tatartovsky with Dexter and Sam Jack.

Will Danny A. get a branch like Genndy and Craig?

Personally, I am not worried about the ones that have made it due to their CC sucesses. (such as Tartakofsky, McCracken, Feiss and possibly Antonnuchi) I am, though, a tad worried about John Dilworth, considering that like Antonnuchi, Courage is made at another studio for CN. I just hope he has something else up his sleeve after the show is over. (like it sounds like right now)
Then again, what about those animators whose series did not last very long on CN? (such as Mo Williams)
Allen's Nickname.

Don't worry about Dilworth. He's an established animator, and he will get more jobs.

I think that someday Dilworth, Genndy, and Antonnuchi will be renowed like Chuck Jones is. That is, if they keep their shows on.

Here's a way to tell if a CC is first generation or second generation:
First generation CC's, when on CCF, have a different opening sceen then when not on CCF. The second generations have the same as usual, except they say "Fridays" after "Cartoon Cartoons". The only exception is Robot Jones.
Also, to the one who said Sheep was the only 2G that was cancelled, you're wrong. Time Squad was cancelled in June.

The Cartoon Cartoon Weekend started At least one year before Robot Jones. Remember the one With the premire of Courage the Cowardly Dog, and King Krab Space Crustasion.

You're right, and just so you know, it technically started a year before you mentioned too. The very first CCF weekend was in 1998, and had zippo advertisement. One weekend you just turn on the TV and BAM there it was. There wasn't any special segments to mark the even, but there was the word "weekend" placed under the CCF logo when going in and out of intros. In addition this was before there were hosts, so there really wasn't the same vibe CCF has now.
Officially Cartoon Cartoons Weekend started in 2000 when they started to advertise it as an event, and not just a normal marathon. Actually I'm going to start a thread about this to collect more information for the site....I think it would help viewers.
