Alright, with everyone going back to school this time of year, I feel a little left out. Y'see, this is my first September since 1983 that I am not going back to any classes. Why? I got my BA over this past summer and, quite honestly, though I know I want to and WILL go back to school to follow up on my English Lit BA with a Film degree in the future, I just don't feel motivated now.

Maybe it's just because I never got to go through my "travel the world for a year to find myself" phase that I know a lot of my friends were fortunate enough to do. I dunno.

Am I a putz? Maybe, but man, I just have those consuming feeling of "blah" as far as academics are concerned. Aspiring young minds, do NOT follow in these footsteps!

Can anyone else relate to this, especially those of you that have the option to not immediately go back to school this semester?

I can definately relate. This is the second year that I haven't gone to some form of schooling. I was so sick of school after high school, that I haven't wanted to do it anymore. I'm just working right now. However, I do plan on taking some form of vocational training before I reach the age of 20. Is it laziness? I like to think not. I mean, I'm working, it's not like I'm sitting around doing nothing. People get burned out. It happens. :)

Everyone gets in a rut and need to take a break, experience the world a bit, not have to worry about school. Lots of people do that. But you have to make sure that I some point you do finally get off your butt and go back to finishing what you want to do...otherwise you'll be some 30 year old guy working in some clothing store always wishing they had gone back to school and always thinking that now it's way too late.

You know, my mom calls me academically unmotivated all the time. Maybe it's because I don't always study that well by myself, but it's probably because I don't really have a passion for my school subjects. At any rate, I still do the work. *Like I've got a choice...*

Don't worry I took a year off befor I went back to school and I'm doing fine. Like Barb said some times you just need to a break.

Thanks for the support, guys...and yes, I do intend on going back and taking a few odd film courses come January, if possible. I don't want to rely on a paltry English Lit BA for the rest of my life - that's only my back-up. :)

Well, January...that gives me four months...four months to earn the thousands of dollars I'll need to afford film school. $16,000? Yeesh...for one year, that's absolutely brutally insane.

I've felt that way for the last year and a half, hon. I'm so close to finally getting my BS in Sociology -- and the prospect of having to continue on for an MSW is so daunting, all I want to do is crawl in a hole and hide there for eternity. I love school, don't get me wrong. I love learning. I love college -- ok, so there isn't much I don't really love. But I'm definitely tired of being in school. If you count pre-school, I've currently been in some type of educational setting for 19 years now. And I've still got a year to go! (And who knows about the master's.)

Anyway, I think it's normal to get in that rut where you just really aren't motivated to be in academia anymore. Generally referred to as senioritis by the mass populations -- you all know what I mean if you're there or have been there (I think I'm there again). In fact, the very fact that I've been so busy with classes and work is one of the things that is currently making me unmotivated. The more I seem to do, the more there is that I still need to do.

Ok, now that I've thoroughly depressed myself. (Just kidding.) Onto the rest of the boards! :) :D

I wanna get all my school done with right away. After I get a B.S., I am going straight into Graduate School and get a Masters. In fact I might get two Masters and then I'll go get a job and get lots of money :D .

I just had my first class as a grad student. I couldn't believe that I was going through this again and was getting depressed until I realized, "If I wasn't doing this, I'd be working at an actual, full-time, 9 to 5 job."

I'm interested in science-type stuff anyways, so I feel like I need to get a PhD. in order to get a good, solid job.

I had to go back to school, or else my parents would throw a fit and punish me severely. I am motivated now, but by the time the next few years are over, that might change.

Well, I'm still in the stage where you HAVE to be in an educational setting. But, after High School, Military ROTC so I can go to college. After the Military and a good four year college, I'm going to go for a PhD. And then, who knows! I might become a profesor! I don't even know! We shall see!
