i'm one. and it's deffinatly a good lifestyle, not for all though. considering where i live (the flippin burbs) everyone is either a: preppy, or B: thinks they are black, even though they are as white as one can get, there's only a few punks out here, but that's good since most of us are all friends and we aren't judged on how we wear or who we are dateing, rather what we do (which is how i should all be) we don't hate all preps, hell i have a few preppie friends, we just don't like how 99% of them hate us because we listen to hardcore music and stuff that we do (like drugs ect.) we do hate all posers though. and on that drug issue, you don't have to do them just to be a punk, but some of us do. it's mostly a split decsion in the punk underground or whatever you want to call it onthe whole drug issue.
another sterotypeing i hate is that people think that all punks and goths are the same thing. we are totaly flippin different! i have a friend whos a punk, and just cause she wears black clothes everyone calls her a goth.
anyway, i'm starting to ramble. i was just wondering if i had any fellow punkers here.

Punks aren't supposed to be enemies of Preppies....they're enemies of hicks...duh, everyone knows that. And it's been my knowledge of the situation that 98% of all punks are posers, who just think they're punks and "hate posers"....it's all in a little movie called SLC Punk. If you haven't seen it...you're not a punk, that's all I can say. If you have seen it...there's still a good chance you're not a punk, but just a poser. I don't believe in Punks anymore...IMO, they died back in the 80's...there were a few still alive throughout the 90's, but now it's just a trend, and nothing more, and you'll grow out of it. None of the Punks now adays even know what Punk is all about. Let me correct what I said before...99.9% of all "punks"...are posers. :D :D :D :D

You're right on there. I've found that "punk" is more of a mindset than a "movement". Most people that follow the "punk guidelines", ranging from Ramones style leather jackets and Joe Strummer (of The Clash) style mohawks, to the recent skating craze, are just wannabes. I know a bunch of real punks, and only one fits the stereotype.

I'm weird...I really can't fit anywhere on a steryotypical class scale, I'm a punk-nerd-jock hybrid, but I haven't smoked a day in my life and never plan to.

AMEN! I do what I like when I like and I don't care what anyone thinks of my life and habbits, they got a problem with 'em? Idon'tgive a monkey's crap, I'm not going to do things I don't like or follow practices I think are stupid, lame or otherwise. I also beleive that people who follow pop culture religiously are sad. 'nuff said.

I listen to mostly punk, but i probley would say i am a geek that likes punk. i dont try in fit into he stereotype lifestyle(watta dumb phrase) i dont know if i agree punk is dead. even though alot of new punk is total crap. i have lotta friends who are stereotypical... The stereotypical punk life style is frankly pretty stupid.

I never got why people say the follow this kind of lifestyle (IE: Punks, preppies, etc.). I mean, I just don't get it. I have no problem with the people who are into them, but I just don't get it. I've always been a fan of being yourself, not calling yourself anything or setting limits on yourself (I mean, a "real" punk who listens to punk and something other than that, let's say The Hives, are then called posers by the other "punks", no thanks).
The other "punks" you speak of are real posers, according to my brother. Punk isn't what it used to be. Anymore, it's about being yourself. Heck, all of my brother's punk friends he met from his ska band went to Donald's van in the middle of the party to listen to an old-school Michael Jackson mix tape. Why? Because "he had 'Thriller'".
Also according to my brother Danny, punks around here are very "straight edge" - no drugs, no booze, no criminal hijinx, and are politically active. When most people think of punk, they think of Tony Hawk or Sid Vicious (the bassist, not the wrestler) OD-ing on heroin.

my friend is the only person i know who i can honestly consider punk. she lives the lifestyle. she's at punk shows probably several times a week, she's lived as a squatter for a couple days, and i know she has an interest in politics and things like that. basically she is more in touch with that scene than anybody i know who claims to really be a punk. the term "punk" is so dead now because people don't understand what it means. it doesn't mean you skateboard or listen to blink182, it's a music scene and way of life as well as in many ways a state of mind.
