Got some big news heard from Bandai at Anime Expo NY.
The first is that they've acquired Big O season 2.
The second is that Zeta Gundam is now in production. As far as I can tell no info about dub VAs, release date or a TV airing is available yet.
Very, very good news to hear, atleast for me. :D I've personally never seen Zeta Gundam, but from what I hear from those who have seen it, its just as good, if not better than the original. And acquiring Big O's second season is good news for a DVD release, considering they handled season 1 pretty good.
Thats it for now, I'll try and see if I can get more info. Got it from animeondvd.com, which is very reliable so don't have to worry about its validity.
There was also some very bad news coming out of AXNY, although I'll be brief about it since its not really AS related. Funimation, not Bandai has acquired the Tenchi spinoff GXP. Meaning the prospects of any original dub cast members returning is little. I can just imagine the horrific dub now...

Mentioned these already :p
and it was Pioneer who did all the other Tenchi series, not Bandai.

Zeta Gundam is the best Gundam series in my opinion, its the only series that I have gone the way of fansubs completley. :waits impatiently for the DVDs:

the tenchi characters (ryoko tenchi etc) only show up in one episode (17), so all the other characters would be newly cast anyway, although i am curious on who they would use on that one episode

Zeta Gundam! From everything I've read, it sounds like a great series. I'd download a fansub, but I won't be getting cable for a few more months.

Well, the Big O 2 news is music to my ears, both for the fact that there will be a DVD release at all, and the fact that Bandai (who did a wonderful job with the first four DVDs) will be doing it.

It is very good, but basically it follows similar plot threads as the original MSG. The biggest difference is the outcome of these plot threads. And it's grim. MAAAN is it grim.

Tomino said (at his panel yesterday) that Zeta is grim because fans were grim at the time but once he realized how grim it had gotten he decided that he'd try to brighten spirits by creating a 'happier' series (ZZ Gundam)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
omg I can just hear one of the principal DBZ voices coming out of Seina's mouth.
guess that means you can forget them trying to get the original VA's for episode 17 as well.
Please don't let this be true... anyone but Funi.

I'm glad Bandai got DVD rights with Big O 2. Now I know it'll have a good DVD release. We might even get the japanese dub on it too.
But FUNi getting Tenchi GXP. I doubt they'll get the original dub VAs for that appearence they make in that one episode. If FUNi decided to do it themselves it'd be interesting to see if they try and imitate Pioneer's voices or do their own. The outcome won't be pretty, I bet.
But GXP mostly has new characters so it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

It'd be interesting to see Sean Schemmel try to pull off Tenchi, to say the least... They should get the original voices to return, but I doubt they will.
And for Big O 2, I expected it. I didn't believe for a second Bandai would have NOTHING to do with it.

Well I think we can safely assume that Ocean Vancouver will be doing Zeta since all the MSG characters already have their VA's firmly established. Now the question is who in Ocean will be doing the rest of the cast.
Brad Swaile probably would make a good Camille, but he's already doing Amuro. Hmmm....

Oh give it a rest. From watching Yu Yu Hakusho's dub, it shows that Funimation is great in terms of dubbing quality. And after all that hassle the DBZ fans did (not that it's bad), Funimation has improved a lot lately. So really, give it a rest, because Funi isn't what it used to be.

Of course thats assuming they do it at the same level as YYH, which is currently the exception, not the norm. They've been doing the dub for DBZ for years now and its still vomit inducing.

So even Tomino felt he went overboard with Zeta.
Thats the only problm I had with Zeta was the fact that it was way to dark. It made the show unrealistic.

Yeah but he rewrote the last half of ZZ to coincide with Char's Counterattack

Blue Gender, Dragon Ball, Yu Yu Hakusho, Lupin III movies.
DBZ is the exception at this point.

If Funi does Fruits Basket right, a series which would easy to mess up IMO, GXP should be fairly straight forward. Having Funi get the original VAs for the cameo in ep17 would be nice, but not necessary.

ok...right, you are watching the same YYH that i am watching right? the one with the god aweful Kuwabara voice and the ear bleeding bad Koenma voice? i couldnt even watch through the first episode it was so horrible...foreget about me giving a chance in hell to Hiei and Kurama's american VAs.
and Funi also has One Peice now...ok there is yet another anime i must watch in sub. if only Funi would do a decent job with the VA's like they did with Blue Gender...

But then he did the grim stuff again in V Gundam. In Zeta, most of the unfortunate events happen in the last half of the show. In V Gundam, he spread it out across the series. Though it did end somewhat "happier" than Z Gundam...

Well it's not like the original MS Gundam was a happy walk in the park either. But who knows, maybe Zeta's grim approach will be good.
As for One Piece and Funi, my position remains: give Zoro the same voice as #17, as long as everyone else gets good voices as well. (although I can't think about who should get Luffy's voice at this point, I do think someone like the woman who does Botan could do a good job with Nami. As for Usopp and Sanji.....don't know because I have only seen 4 eps!)

my a tad bit snippy are we?
I bought one, count one DBZ disk.. it was supposed to be an unedited copy but I felt the entire time I was watching an edited copy, that is what I could watch of it. In order to make any changes during the program you have to go out to the main menu to make them. Also the only extras on the disk was for a DBZ store. I realize that dbz is an extremely long series but this was a side story episode so I was expecting a bit more from the extras section.
Finally, Yu Yu's dub? I wouldn't rank it up there as great, I can pick up which dbz actor does which voice in Yu-Yu and its as if an effort wasn't even made to change the pitch of their voices. I also feel that quite a few of the voices do not match the characters. (kurabara's voice is especially grating) Of course how I feel about a dub is just my opinion as you stated yours above, we just happen to disagree, and I'll let it stand at that.

I never said it was breath-taking. I just said it was great in terms of not ruining tons of translation lines, leaving most of the scenes intact, and having a good dub. Yes, Kuwabara's voice does take some time to get use to, but it's not THAT bad. And I think you're overexaggerating on Koenma. Koenma's voice sounds fine. It's not superior than the Japanese dub, but it's still all right. And why aren't you giving Hiei and Kurama's American VA a chance? They sound like they'll fit into their roles quite nicely.

And they will do a decent job if they want to please the fans. They've learned their mistakes in the past.
EDIT:

Sorry. I'm just tired of all this Funi bashing. They've grown into a good anime distributor and yet, there are still people who are bashing them.

I wasn't thinking of the dub as in terms of just voice acting. I was thinking of the translation accuracy, music's english version, etc.
All right! Zeta Gundam's gonna premire! Of course, the AS will destroy it, edit wise. Good thing the DVD's are coming out too.

No offense Beatdigga, but there isn't much to destroy edit-wise for AS. That is, unless you count removing those few shower scenes "destroying it."
At their rate, it'll be Y7.

What about that "gassing of millions of people" in that colony? That my cause some concern. The rating for it will probably be TV-14.

That's only a single episode out of fifty. Maybe the one episode will get a TV-14, but it not as bad as it sounds so it'll probably get a TV-PG.
