View Full Version : Toonzone Withdrawl

Yeah, we all know that this move from toonzone.net to toonzone.org is a wonderful, fabulous thing, but for many of us, it's temporarily shutting down a big part of our internet lives.

About an hour ago I was busily posting away until it died. AHHH! Within seconds, I was contacted via AIM by Barb Gordon who created a secret undergroud bunker (aka chat room) where any online AIM buddies could hide as the apocalypse unfolded.

Man, it felt weird; for a second, it felt like it was the end of the world, in a sense. SJJ was also there, and so was BleuUnicorn; others would have been allowed in, had they been around...

Anyway, if you had popped online any time this weekend only to discover a wonder "404 ERROR URL NOT FOUND" message when you logged on to Toonzone, did you go through a similar sense of withdrawl?

Just curious.

A little. But, I had some time to read some old Penny Arcade, so not all was lost.

No, I don't have withdrawal... just a Southern drawal.

(dodges flying garbage and soda cans)

Seriously, I did kind of miss Toon Zone while it was down, but on the other hand, I did manage to actually get some work done around the house. Haven't touched my homework yet though... for shame... :p

(BTW, this thread was Babs' idea...but she's not around, soooo...) The word is WITHDRAWAL.

I don't think I could ever compare this to a REAL LIFE apocalypse. That's like comparing some kind of online bulletin board to your entire family. There's such a thing as getting too dependent on the Internet, and this is it.

Amusing. Moding the mod who is on grammar detail. Looks like you'll have to be a little more careful in future Tim!

Yeah, it's not a massive porblem for me. I have other things I should be doing (like sleeping - it's past midnight) so it's sort of a good thing I get a break.

I turn on my PC, head for the internet and I don't know what to do. I have other boards I go to, but this is my hub. It's where I rotate round as I do my other 'netty' things.

I think I'll have to set up another appointment with the AOL withdrawal facility....

Withdrawal -- it's really a terrible thing. In fact, the fact that I have withdrawal from Toon Zone just goes to show how much homework I'm not doing! It's nice to know I've got other loonies, err uh friends, out there that are going through the same issues -- but I suppose I should get to that homework now. :(

Just to clarify... Toonzone.net is not moving to toonzone.org... both addresses will point to the exact same site (or they will eventually; I just bought toonzone.org the other day).

Yes, I know, I was making a joke, because the words sound a lot alike...

sigh... Never mind. It wasn't a very funny joke anyway. :o

It was down for about five minutes, I thought I was going to go insane. At least Birdboy was online, so that passed the time until Toonzone got back up.

The downtime hasn't hit me as hard, mainly due to the fact that I haven't had any time to do anything this weekend. HA! No "Betty-Toon Zone-Ford" Clinic for me. Just endless homework... being back in school is craptastical.

A little, I guess. I wanted to read some posts in a few threads, and it bugged me that I couldn't read them the second I wanted to. I'm such a brat :p

yeah I'm good at passing the time.. and I cook too! :p lol

eh, I'm not so affected, I got alot of other online stuff I do, so I got caught up on that--but I gotta admit, coming here and seeing the boards not work sometimes is sorta annoying...

I know. I was trying to get on here last night and I couldn't and it was driving me nuts! Anyway, if the boards are down again, feel free to shout me a hollar on Yahoo messenger.

Why does the board go down when I'm in the middle of a post?

Why does the phone always ring when you're in the bathtub?

Why is the greatest criminal genius of our time surrounding himself with morons and nincompoops?!

Ooops! I've said too much. . . . :D

*sniffles* It was awful when I got a "Page cannot be displayed" sign instead of the forums of TZ. It was just so...wrong! Luckily SJJ and Tim were on to help through the trying times. Gosh, don't know how I'm going to make it through another one of these periods. *shudders* I was practically tickled pink to be able to get back on tonight. I was waiting anxiously as the page loaded, and yay, it went all the way through and there was TZ again! Boy, I sound sad and disgustingly pathetic even to me! hehe. Hehe, and thanks for posting this while I was away "partying" (it was an old people's party, lol) Tim!

Trust me, I got the grunt of this whole ordeal. I had found a terribly interesting article yesterday, and I HAD to post it immediately. So, I came onto Toonzone, typed out a long post(It was loooong. At least long enough that you would never want to re-type all of it, ever again). Then, when I clicked "Post reply", Toonzone was dead. I freaked out, and waited 10 minutes, and Toonzone was back on my computer screen, I checked the cafe and my post didn't make it. The big move killed my post. GAH! Oh well. You guys will never know, now. haha! If I can find the article again, maybe I'll post it again after the move...I want no more big risks with the move.

As for withdrawl....eh. I've been terribly busy, but the time I have had, that I would usually spend at Toonzone...well...I just kinda sat here and ended up going to my room for a Cowboy Bebop marathon. *sigh* :(

Look at it this way: August 30th-31st I couldn't even lay down and just lay there without feeling some very bad pain. All sleep-aids worked for like 2 seconds and when I would doze off and I would feel the pain then wake up and that would be it until I could take more. Then the 31st-just now, my computer was on the fritz badly to where I couldn't even get onto my desk top for 5 seconds without it freezing up.

At least you got to chat to people while ToonZone was down. ;)

I think I was upset at first, but then I discovered that with the time I would have spent on toonzone, I found other constructive things to do, much to the amazement and joy of my Mother. Plus I went over to my friends house, so I guess I didn't miss it too much. Although I really wanted to post after the first episode of Inu-Yasha, but I couldn't.

I'll admit that it is quite frustrating when you want to post and the
ERROR page loads instead of the colorful backrounds of TZ, but I wouldn't say I felt withdrawl.

The worst that happened was, of course, I forgot why and what I wanted to post.....

Oh well. Maybe I will discover another world beyond this chair, or my work building. :D

I guess I've been lucky (knock on wood). I've been so busy with my vacation that I haven't spent a lot of time on here so no errors.

Good luck with the rest of the move Brian!

It usually takes longer than one morning for me to feel withdrawal. If I go a whole week without visiting Toon Zone, or a whole week without watching a cartoon for that matter, I become a sad, argumentative person. It's pitiful, I know.

Yeah that 404 message temporarily freaked me out, but I was releived to find my li'l toonzone back in it's proper nich on the WWW, unfortunately I'm still serverly bogged down with mind numbing amounts of school work so it doesn't end my hiatus.

Well, it happened again...I think it was down for six hours this evening. Man...not that I'm complaining to the people that run the site, cuz I know this is a great thing they're doing, moving TZ to a better server and whatnot, but...I really miss this place when it's not around!

welp, looks like the move is over, save for a few miscellanous files here and there. Came out pretty nicely I think, everything feels *that* much faster now. Handled very well.

Yay, main move is over! Without TZ, I realized the only other thing I do online is chat with friends, check email, and maybe surf a few misc sites. Also a dignified dork, and loving it!

Toss my name into the Dignified Dork hat. I kept coming back like every 10 minutes just to see if the forums were up and running again. But since I couldn't do one dorky thing, I did another. :p I watched my DVD's of Mask of the Phantasm, Sub Zero, The Batman/Superman Movie, and ROTJ: Uncut all in a row. Seriously.

OH man, BYO, my hat is off to you...281 minutes of animated movies...I don't know if I could do all that and THEN come online to surf. You...dork of a dignified calibre.

I concurr with Babs - if it weren't for my AIM buddies, that would have made for one lonnnnnng TZ-less evening. I'm glad TZ is back to stay - and yeah, I've noticed the speed difference, too! :)

Actually, I really went into withdrawl last spring, when school ended and I no longer had a home computer on which to spend endless hours chatting it up with you great folks. After a few weeks, I started to get used to living without Toonzone. Hopefully, now that our home computer is working and I'm back at school, I won't spend as much time online as I did a fwe months ago, because it was starting to get out of hand. Toonzone is meant to be a relaxing break from everyday life....not a constant escape.

To answer your question though, Tim, I was disappointed last night when I logged on after BB3 and American Idol finished..only to discover that there was no one to chat with!
