Hey guys,
Just got back from the BAAF "Cowboy Bebop" dub premiere in NYC with Toon Zone co-founders, Brian Cruz and Eileen Delgadillo (Harley). The movie was in Loew's off of Broadway, IIRC. Boy, was the movie great! I had only seen a few episodes and this movie really has gotten me into it. I better pick up the DVD boxed set in the future. There was also a Q & A thing with the director, the character designer and the song composer. I took some notes. It was interesting, but they had a translator and a lot of the questions, they did not understand. Still, overall, a great movie and one hell of a great way to spend a Friday! Thank you Brian and Eileen for making this possible.

-Vincent

I imagine you're tired. Then sleep and rest well. Because once you wake up, we need a report. Because now my curiosity is killing me more than ever! Was it good? Was it bad? Did you get some pictures? Tell me! :D

It was great. I am not positive, but I think, Eileen may have gotten pictures, although I am too tired to think now. It was definitely a great movie for new fans like myself, and definitely older fans of the series, too. You're in for a treat.

EDIT: Oh, and they gave out some free stuff, too, which was very cool. :)

Ya-hess, another Bebop-er is born. :) But if you want a box set, you'll have to wait for Bandai to release a regular, non-limited one.

I'll be awaiting your report with bated breath. @_@

That's it! The next time there's a Bebop movie showing, I'm there! :D

Free stuff? What free stuff? Was it good stuff? Was it bad stuff?! :takes a moment to breathe. Finally calms down: So, it was as good as the series wasn't it? And I presume it's even better than the 5 Spike episodes. :)

Yes, I enjoyed it too! Even my boyfriend, who has only seen a fraction of the series (1-5, 7, 14, 17, 19, 20,and 24) enjoyed it a lot too ^.^.

There were a lot of great lines in the movie too. Spike was SO vintage :D

Fata - I got most of the answers from the Q and A session after the movie as well, and I'll post them ASAP. I got some pictures too. ^-^

::wishes she came in Ed cosplay - dang!::

There was a:
- BAAF program
- 1 Tokyopop Cowboy Bebop anime guide (which I have all 5 released already, but it didn't matter. It was cool!)
- a CB - The Movie postcard
- a DVD (I dont know what was on it)
- a series of Animatrix postcards

Could you just post one or two things from the preview, to whet our appetites? I have someone who is (supposed to be) getting a full transcript of the Q & A, but I probably won't hear from him until Monday.

At least one person has reported to me that the actual title of the film had been altered from "Cowboy Bebop: Knockin on Heaven's Door" to "Cowboy Bebop: The Movie." Was this true?

From the preview? Do you mean the Q&A?

For you, Fata - anything :)

Someone asked where the inspiration for Ed came from (hehehe). Shinichiro Watanabe, while looking at Yoko Kanno (who was laughing) said "The mother is nearby". Everyone laughed.

Someone asked Yoko where her inspiration came from (I wanted to ask her that - gaaaah!). She said that "She really doesn't know why she can write music - she knows it's not based on reason or logic." About inspiration, she went on to say "It's prety much dissolving the self and letting it come to you." I was writing really fast so I wouldn't miss a word. I probably fudged some things up in the process too.

Then someone asked where some of the characters came from, and Kawamoto said that he had a Welsh Corgi at home, so that's where Ein came from. He wanted the dog in more scenes, but Watanabe hated animals (Hmm...now I know where Spike came from, hahaa!!! :D) Kawamoto's favorite session was "Mushroom Samba". Then the "host" asked the audience, "after seeing Bebop, would you like to own a Welsh Corgi?" and a lot of people raised their hands, hehe.

Someone asked about their opinion about Bebop's success in the USA. Yoko Kanno answered that "cool people are universally renowned".

The Q&A session lasted about 30 minutes (b/c they had to kick us all out so that they could show the Escaflowne movie). Before the movie, I thought it was amusing to see all the people holding up cardboard signs that said "We need Bebop tickets!" and the like. Before going into the theater, one of the "ushers" said to me "See you, space cowboy". I laughed and said "Bang." :D

YES. The title card said "Cowboy Bebop - The Movie".

Thanks, that'll hold me for a little while. :)

Damn, though. . . I really didn't expect them the change the title card. That sucks big time. :(

So they still stucked with Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, huh? I guess they really are trying to avoid illegal lawsuits.

I sold my extra ticket to one of those people for $30. So in the end I got to see the movie for free. :D

Hmmm, wonder if that rumor of the movie being a hit in the U.S. we will see more Bebop ? My guess is the movie will mainly be an underground hit like Monokoe since the studio seems to be doing a limited release of the movies in art house theaters.
Which means that I'll probably catch the movie on DVD, oh well, there at least I'll view it on both sub-titles and dubbed.

I believe I called this one? CB: WE SOLD OUT, anyone?

You just can't mess with Intellectual Property rights, folks. And the owners of the Dylan estate can keep the rights long after Dylan's death as well, so there's no chance a KOHD title will be on the US DVDs either.

Gaah... I NEED to go to New York. It's not an option anymore. I wonder if they still give out all the cool stuff for the other showings? Speaking of which, what was on the DVD that you mentioned, SpikeJet143?
