I know you're probably repeating yourselves, and is probably sick of this question, but when is "Coboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door" coming out in the US? (Yes, I know I should just visit this board a tad more, but still.) Before you just close this, let me say this first: I actually have a reason to ask. My brother is a Freshman film student. In his film class, he has to watch certain types of films, then analyse them to death. His professor said the Cowboy Bebop movie fits in both the film noir and foreign film categories. I'm truly sorry for the annoying inconvenience, but it's for higher education.

Yes, KOHD is coming to the US, but not until early 2003.

However, you can catch the premier movie at August 31. Just walk yourself all the way from your homes to Time Square New York, where thousands of fans will be lined up and chattering about the movie. It's only 10 bucks, people. Get em while you still can. The movie will start at 7:59, I presume.

And no, I'm not an advertiser.

So, is this coming straight to dvd or will it actually be in theaters?

As I understand it, Columbia/Tri-Star will be giving it a release in theaters. Although how wide-spread of a release it will be remains to be seen.

Of course, I'll be seeing it at the Big Apple Anime Festival on Saturday, so its all the same to me. :D

Let's see if I can consolidate the press releases and annoucements up until now:

The film will be released theatrically early 2003. According to a Columbia rep, it will be a "wide" release. In areas playing the film at more than one theater/screen, Columbia will insist that both the dub and sub are played. The three main characters (Spike, Faye, and Jet) will have the same dub actors as the television show. It's implied that Ed will have the same dub actress, but it hasn't been openly stated, and therefore she might have been replaced. Marc Handler, the SDR script writer for the television series, has also been retained. It is unknown whether Melissa Williamson was kept as ADR director. The film is being advertised as "Cowboy Bebop: The Movie", but the actual title of the film has not been edited. The music has not been changed, nor was it ever intended to be changed. As far as witnesses to the early showings have reported, not a frame of the film has been edited. And finally, the film has been picked up for the UK, though probably only for DVD/VHS. The subtitle version of the film premiered a couple of months ago. The dub of the film will be premiered tomorrow; that showing is sold out. The Saturday showing, however, is not (yet). No further showings have yet been announced.

I hope this answers any questions.

They were only selling premiere tickets in advance, so there shouldn't be any trouble getting to 11:00 PM Saturday if you don't care about Inu-Yasha.

Bootlegs of KOHD are easy to find, in fact they're all over the web, but I agree, by no means buy one! I swear, you get what you pay for, plus you're giving money to cretinous little weasles who pay 1/10th of what you do or less for a VERY low quality product. I have seen the movie ripped into divx, and it rocks, but for god's sake, don't buy it untill it's the real deal! I don't know how many people have beaten this horse, but it's still alive!! ALIVE I SAY!!! SAVE ME FROM THE ZOMBIE PIRATE HORSES!!!

Glad to know there's others who despise anime pirates. Definitely, what he said. Never buy from pirates.

I, myself, am both for and against bootlegs at the same time.
I'm for them if it's your only option, like it hasn't been ligitematly released in your area yet, but only if you still by the ligit copy when it is released where you live.
I'm agaainst them if it has been released in your area and your just to damn cheap and selfish to pay a few extra bucks to support the wonderful people who made it.

Yeah, I definitely see your point and I agree to an extent, but it's next to impossible to know if you're giving your money to someone who's doing it because he wants to make it available or to those pirate scum who are involved in other areas of crime.

Actually, it's quite easy to tell most time. If it's free, then it's more than likely a fansub that was made by people who want to make it availible.
If you have to pay for a bootleg, then it was made by ***** who only want money.
Now, sometimes it's hard to tell, but usually the 'is it free' rule works when trying to distinguish between the two.

There's something wonderful about Columbia Tristar, and with Cowboy Bebop: "The Movie"....they've been screwing around with the fans for so long with this movie...

For a while, there was strong question as to whether they'd even finish the damn thing...

Then we got release dates and all the good stuff...

Rumors spread that the dub cast WONT be the Bandai one. Every Bebop fan goes many sleepless night worrying that they might get the voice "talent" of big name movie stars that wont fit the characters in the least.

Then we find out it'll be 100% subtitled. Some fans are happy, but the majority(from what I've heard), were uber-pissed because a.)The English dub kicks ass! and b.) it wouldn't reach the mass audience that it COULD if it were dubbed.

Things get worse as we hear that it's being advertised as "Cowboy Bebop: THE MOVIE"....awww, and Knocking On Heavens Door is possibly the best movie title I've EVER heard....

Then we discover, LAST SECOND(since everyone was "*****ing" about how it was to late in the game to get a dub), that the original dub cast is going to dub it. And we rejoiced.

Finally, we find out the very pleasant fact that the actual movie itself wont be altered...as in the mighty-fine soundtrack is still in its place, and the opening title will still read "Knocking on Heavens Door."

Throughout this whole ordeal...I dont think any of us know whether we'de like to kiss the people at Columbia-Tristar...or smack them each upside the head. :D

Actually, this turned out not to be true. People who saw the sub version a couple of months ago said that the title had been untouched. People who saw the dub yesterday say it was changed to "Cowboy Bebop: The Movie." Can't have everything, I guess. ^^;

Yea, and that means all the fans' efforts to change the title were wasted. Oh well, "Cowboy Bebop: The Movie" isn't THAT bad. But "Cowboy Bebop: Knocking on Heaven's Door" just sounds better. If they're trying to avoid legal issues, that's fine. The main thing is the dub cast. Oh and by the way, to whoever saw the movie, there's always one thing that bugged me...

Who's the VA of Ed?
