Ouuuuuch!
Yeah, I have a couple right now, and they're driving me nuts. Does anyone else here fall victim to these on occasion? Does anyone have any ideas WHY they happen, especially when they pop up the day after you go to the dentist and supposedly get your mouth cleaned out?
And, most importantly, does anyone have any good remedies? :D
Sorry for the not-so-pretty topic, but hey, it's a topic that's as good as any. :D

A great way to get rid of canker soars is to drink a few glasses of milk with the vitamin acidophilus in it. Most milk that has acidophilus will say it on the carton. Try it, it really works!

Usually canker sores can occur when you don't drink enough liquid. Dry mouths tend to get cankers much faster. This tends to happen during the night when you are sleeping. Some people say it's diet and stress that can cause it, but I tend to get it more in the summer during hot and dry weather.
I've never used medicines to get rid of it--I just rinse my mouth with water and salt about twice a day until it's gone. (Yes, it's putting salt on a wound, but for this, it doesn't hurt like in the expression people use)

Several things can cause canker sores.
Stress, lack of sleep, and not enough water.
Stress will happen, but you can cure it faster by drinking massive amounts of water and making sure you get plenty of sleep. Water cleans out your liver(I think...) and that organ can then make the stuff that fights cankers alot faster and cure you. And sleeping, that's when the body can really lay down the most smack down to anything causing you dis-ease.
So drink water and sleep. That'll clear it up.
Oh! And mouthwash and toothpaste. Mouthwash not only burns away germs but necessary lining in your mouth. That can cause cankers. So if you're using mouthwash, you might wanna stop for a while. And a change of toothpaste... can also help.
Heh... I looked this one up on the internet a while ago when I had a really bad one and I just got utterly tired of it.
Hope that helps!

Stupid Question of the day: What are canker sores ? :(

I drink plenty of fluids at all times, so I don't think that's an issue; seriously, whenever I get canker sores, it's all because of stress. What I hate the most is that they always seem to appear when I travel; argh, one of my least favourite things and one of my favourite things combined.
Anyway, here's how I combat them:
STEP ONE: Morning - brush my teeth really vigorously and OVERUSE the toothpaste, so much that it goops out of your mouth and down your hand. All the excess creates a wonderful lining in your mouth. :)
STEP TWO: Have a bowl of cereal for breakfast that milk can REALLY get nice and soggy...like, say, Life cereal or Mini-Wheats or something. The milk is a nice supplementary lining.
STEP THREE: Anytime through the day, I put a swipe of Kanka mouth-numbing medicine in my mouth. On bad days, I carry it in a holster on my hip; I can draw it out like freakin' Wyatt Earp, man. It's only short term, but I can dig it. Makes your breath smell all menthol-y, though.
STEP FOUR: CARBONATED BEVERAGES. Super-fizzy ones like 7-Up, Sprite, and various ginger ales are wonderful. It's a nice mouth-numbing option to my kanka.
STEP FIVE: On REALLY bad days, I go to my extra stash of Rembrandt healing gel that I managed to persuade my dentist to give to me; for some reason it's illegal in Canada, so it makes me feel extra special. :D
STEP SIX: Toothpaste before bedtime.
And that's about it. It's funny how my whole way of living changes when the cankers appear. I hate them little buggers.

Liquids are nice, but chug water.
And use less or different toothpaste. Lots of sleep.

I go INSANE whenever I get them. I once had one for 3 weeks, I am not kidding. And it was right by my lip, so it was right in the way of my teeth and the open air. I kept biting it(It got really big), and it was the post painfully irritating experience ever. And that was just last month. So, when I went away, I was so relieved. About a week or two later, I got another one. Luckily it was way down where my tongue could barely reach it, so it was more like a little pain that I couldn't reach, and it only lasted a day or two.
Uhg, I hate Canker Sores. Wash out your mouth with Listerine Daily. Because I ran out of my Listering 2 weeks before I got that bad one, I never got a new bottle, and on that third week when I finally got some more listerine...it went away. So..I trust mouth wash... :D

I get'em every now and then, sometimes I've even had like 2-3 at once. Rarely do they extremely hurt, and for reason when I have nothing to do I'm really drawn to them and play with them, I think mine go away because I really irritate them. ;)

There is nothing I can do to get rid of them once I have them, I just have to suffer it out, tho I do use Kanka. Tabasco sauce usually helps too....just kidding!
Kanka is an awesome thing, if you feel the canker sore coming on. I've learned to recognize when one starts forming in my mouth, and before it breaks thru the skin, I slab on some kanka, let it dry (the trick is to dry the area you apply it to, and keep it dry for a few minutes after you put it in, which usually means I have to lay down so the saliva in my mouth doesn't affect the kanka. I know, I know, maybe that's getting a tad gross, but hey, so are caker sores! If I apply the kanka early enough, the canker sore never fully develops, so it actually prevents canker sores before they develop.
