View Full Version : Will Adult Swim ever air outside of the late night blocks?

I recall certain Sunday and Saturday afternoons when Cartoon Network would air Toonami runs of a certain show, for example I recall one with Sailor Moon. Would they ever air any of their Adult Swim programming in such a way? Maybe certain programs wouldn't work, but a Sunday afternoon marathon of Home Movies would work out quite well.

I'm not sure if Cartoon Network would ever run outside marathons of Adult Swim shows. They're allowed to run marathons of Toonami shows because Toonami shows are still acceptable for the network's primary audience. Showing Adult Swim shows outside of its designated blocks would be nice - it'll definately help advertise the blocks - but even Home Movies has a few lines ("you can tell him he can kiss my ***") that'll cause some parents to protest.
Still, I don't see any reason why it couldn't happen. If CN advertises it way in advance, it might work. But then again, I don't run a network designated a children's channel...

But I do hope this new idea can help the ratings, big time. :)

I would even be happy if the ran something late during the week, that way I could watch it every night :D

It's probably possible for AS shows to show up late weekday nights, but I doubt we can expect mid-Saturday anytime soon.

I'd rather ASA expanded into Friday nights. CN wouldn't have to show CCF a billion times over the night then. After CCF's first run, they could show a half-hour of some non-CCF cartoon and then a 2 hour ASA Friday block for longer series and movies. Here's what the scedule would sort of look like:
Typical ASA Friday:
11:00 - Last CCF Show
11:30 - Non-CCF Show
12:00 - Long ASA Series 1
12:30 - Long ASA Series 1
1:00 - Long ASA Series 2
1:30 - Long ASA Series 2
2:00 - TMR/TRS or Other
ASA Friday Movie:
11:00 - Last CCF Show
11:30 - Non-CCF Show
12:00 - ASA Movie
2:00 - TMR/TRS or Other
Of course, you wouldn't be seeing anything like this until a series like YuYu Hakusho has a couple more episodes dubbed and they've gotten more movies. MSG would fit in there wonderfully too. If not, I can dream :P

Now that is not too bad of a time slot there, but it is still going to have to be waited on.

Adult swim caused a bad reputation with protective parents when they air the disclaimor ever 30 mintutes. I admit, a marathon of Home Movies in the afternoon would be the best thing since popcorn, but cartoon network most likely wont air it during that time.
It's difficult to say. Easing it into a primetime spot (sort of a "Nick at Nite" approach) is more practical than shoving a 24 hour marathon and run the risk of the kids seeing Pierre Le Fou.

Nick at Nite used to do 24 hour marathons on New Years Eve. Anyone remember the "Top 49 Rerun Countdown?"

I think that the reason AS can't be treated like Nick @ Nite is because it looks to much like is normally shown on CN and younger audiences will be attracted to it, while when N@N usually comnes on they change the channel.

I remember once a few years ago before Adult Swim officially premiered they had a couple of sneak peeks at like 4 in the morning. I saw them, because I'm up at that hour by freewill.

Yep!
Btw, I Love Lucy doesn't exactly contain any content that would be considered inappropriate for children :P

Yeah. They did that around Christmas 2000. They still do it on occasion to this day.

Was actually thinking about something like this, only my thoughts was to have the third AS block on fridays called ASE (Adult Swim Extra). Would basicly only be a two hour block at first and show episodes from two ASA cartoons and two ASC cartoons that aren't part of the normal block anymore. Could be a good way to keep shows such as Baby Blues and (when it's off in a few weeks) Mission Hill on the air a bit longer. It would take awhile for this to happen, since ASA still needs to get a larger library of shows to choose from.

Yea, they could do that until ASA aquired more shows. Right now, MSG would fit in there perfectly for an hour run and and an hour of Mission Hill until YuYu Hakusho has a few more episodes dubbed.

Home Movies probably has the best chance of working; that's about it. Ask yourself, would it be worth it?
I'm all for AS expanding into Friday, BTW.

That's an awesome idea, someone should make a poll about this.

something you all should know is that CN goofed yesterday morning during the CArtoon Theathre encore they accidently showed 30 seconds of Mission Hill.

I don't know if a poll is really necessary or not. Written feedback is more important.

Whoops. I can see it now:
"They said you were masterbating in the bathroom to pornography..."
"We will return to "Cats Don't Dance" after this..."
Um...yeah. Well, they do say there is no such thing as bad publicity.

That's funny! Maybe the Cartonn Nework employees were trying to put something GOOD into watch while the kiddiefied Cartoon Theater played and started to put in the Mission Hill tape in the wrong player!

Hey! There's nothing better than bashing Shirley Temple, and that's what makes Cats Don't Dance a born-classic... that and the fact that it was the first truly successful non-Disney animated film for a long long time.

I have an idea, this coming from an old project on marketing to ages.
A few years ago, McDonald's ran an ad for a series of burgers called the "Arch Deluxe". They used a rather large ad campaign to make it seem like kids hated it. It worked. Kids didn't go near them.
It could be theoretically applied that a sort of "kids hate it" campaign might work to spread AS.
CN,
Give in to your grown-up tastes.

That would be quite interesting. Just a pity food and television are on two different wavelengths. Example:
Parents: "Kids, don't eat this food. It's got lettuce, tomatoe, pickles, and everything you don't like."
Kids: "Okay."
Parents: "Kids, don't watch this show. It's got excessive violence, gratuitious sex, offensive themes, foul language, and everything else I don't want you to watch."
Kids: "Okay...what time is it on?"
Oh, the dangerous attraction of social taboos...
No, no, no, no. You don't tell them what it is. You air ads that are secretive.
An example would be to show kids reel in disgust at the mere mention of "Adult Swim".

Ah, since this cannot possibly fit in anywhere else on ToonZone, I present you with this:

And they say people these days can't have an intelligent conversation.. :D
And to think, I had an idea for an AS "kids hate it" ad.
Kid #1- What's on TV?
Kid #2- Let's watch the Cartoon Network.
Kid #1- Don't! Adult Swim's on!
Kid #2- ICK!
Adult Swim.
