So who here has the book that inspired the Oblongs, Creepy Susie: And 13 Other Tragic Tales for Troubled Children (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0345433017/qid=1030506451/sr=8-4/ref=sr_8_4/002-3825808-2584058?v=glance&s=books&n=507846/toonzone.03)?
I think it actually looks pretty cool and I think I will order it. Amazon.com is offering free shipping on orders for $25.00 or more, and you can easilly find coupon codes to use at the site at DVDTalk (http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=217220). And if you want, you can check out 21 pages of samples (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/books/0345433017/reader/1/ref=lib_dp_TFCV/002-3825808-2584058#reader-link/toonzone.03) from the book.

Hmm. Well, I like this kind of stuff, personally, and I checked out one of the stories on the sample pages, and it was twisted and fun, certainly a darker and more adult tone than the animated series. Not much content, from the looks of things, one page is one panel of a cartoon, but I decided to order it nonetheless. And the coupon codes at DVDtalk and the free shipping made it worth my while and I picked up a couple other things, as well, including Flash Frames (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000069I0T/qid=1030508336/sr=8-2/ref=sr_8_2/002-3825808-2584058?v=glance&s=dvd/toonzone.03), for those of you interested in Internet animation on DVD.

Wow. Usually when something is "inspired" by a book they take a character and distort him or her until the character becomes something almost entirely different. But these characters are almost all exact translations. Is this "Angus Oblong" involved in the show in any way, or is it all done by other people?
This book actually reminds me a lot of a book I loved as a kid, but have unfortunately forgotten the name of. It came out about 12 years ago and had sort of the same kind of twisted stories (and the book was actually aimed at younger kids). These stories all had some sort of "moral" to them, as the kids were usually described as little brats, but the way they showed that the kids' behavior was wrong was by having them meet some horrible fate.
One was about a kid being melted to a toxic puddle in a storm of acid rain, another was about a boy who was lured into a cave and eaten alive by a monster. There were a whole bunch of others that were probably a lot weirder than these, but those are all I can remember, now.
At a young age, that seemed like pretty twisted stuff. It certainly made my mom worry about me :D . By any chance, does anyone remember this book?

Ok. Well, I just thought since the thread title said the book "inspired" the show that maybe somebody took the book's characters as inspiration and put them into a show. It could have been done without her involvement, but I guess it wasn't. So, um...yeah.
Before I clicked on the thread I crossed my fingers and said "Creepy Suzie Creepy Suzie" I had read this book at Borders in the graphic novel section and when I got home the Oblongs was premiering... Kinda creepy @_@ This book is hilarious, as with all of Angus' books! My AV comes from this book infact :D
