Sheep in the Big City

First, a little background in case some of you don't know this show:

"Sheep in the Big City" is a cartoon on Cartoon Network about...well...a sheep in a big city. ;) But, there's more to it than that. An army - headed by General Specific - is after Sheep and wants to capture him for their sheep-powered ray gun! Can Sheep stay clear and free of the General and his army of men (including Private Public, Major Appliance, Major Pain, Major Television Event, and an Angry - not Mad, Angry!! - Scientist), or will he become part of the ray gun? And why do they have a sheep-powered ray-gun in the first place? =X

But now to the real point of my post...what do you guys all think of this series? I love everything about it, from the fake commercials (e.g. the one for the bowling ball in a can) to the romance between Sheep and his beloved doggy girlfriend Swanky to the ending of the show with the Ranting Swede (he's right. Why DO they call them "supermarkets"??). I also think Sheep is one of the cutest farm animals I've ever seen. :)

You weren't around the old boards much in their last day, were you? From what was said there, methinks thee & me art the only Sheep fans here. It's been said it's a bad attempt @ Bullwinkle type humor & metahumor er sum junk. Me, I like it, but that's just me. I can't wait till Private Public gets his big promotion to General Public. And you forgot to mention the would-be psychoanalyst Farmer John, Sheep's former guardian who himself has issues not excluding his need for closure re. Sheep. Then there's that bratty little girl, who reminds me a bit of whatsername from that Sylvester toon (Kiddie's Kitty). Methinks the latter is related to Elmyra. Have I established my fan credentials yet? Thank you.

:confused: I'm afraid I'll be brutally honest, I don't like that show very much. It is a lot like Bullwinkle, but the difference is that the stupid narrator won't shut up! I like the concept, but it could be so much better than it really is. I think it has possibilities, but I can't help but think "This doesn't DO anything. It's just some guy showing pictures of a sheep in a city and jabbering for 30 minutes". The cartoon Cartoon that is my personal favorite is "Courage the Cowardly Dog', and I've heard many people bash this one...so I guess we're even.:D

I love this show as well, we're in the minority though. But honestly, how could you not love the ranting Sweed? Anyway, great show, great humor IMO.

It's kinda like the Rocky and Bullwinkle for the 21st.

I do not like the drawings. At all. What did I say last time...? Three-year-old leukemiatics riding in a car could do better? Or is it a four-year-old diabetic riding on a train?

Anywho, I only like the Ranting Swede (who sounds suspiciously Yiddish) and the commercials (yes, that's the oxymoron gag).

I've only seen a few Sheep eps, and did enjoy the unusually dense pun content. But I don't watch the show regularly, because so far I've failed to discover an essencial component: at least one major character whom I really like. Sheep himself is uncomfortably close to being a non-character.

Like Taz-Mania, Sheep suffers from having a non-entity for a star. He doesn't do anything but bleat a little, so all the other characters are overused to compensate. Sheep should talk or have facial expressions or something to improve.

Other than that, it is a funny show. After all, it's humor has the power of an ox.

This is obviously a love it or hate it show, given the comments about it. I don't care for the show at all. Perhaps I should try to give it another shot (I do like Rocky and Bullwinkle tremendously, and it is the comparison to that show alone that would make me want to take another look if I can bring myself to do so.) It is really the animation that turns me off the most. I feel like I am watching a web toon that isn't done all that well in the first place. I like many, many different styles of animation, but I just cannot get into this one.

As I stated on the WB board, this is a love it or hate it show. I don't care for the animation myself. It looks too much like a cheaply done web toon. But you need to go to the WB board, Joey. I know you like this show and felt pretty alienated when you brought it up on the World's Finest board not too long ago. It seems like the fans of this show are hanging out at the WB board! It's almost a total opposite of the comments this show generated on the WF board!

I still think it tries a little too hard.The jokes are great but then they get a little too overdone or exaggerated (like the ranting swede...brilliant idea,but his rants arent that funny)
I love general specific though.I dont know why.Everything about him is cool.Hes green!

Rocky and Bullwinkle is also a favorite of mine, and one of the few cartoon shows that actually have cultural/political jokes. Yes, there were cultural jokes in Rocky and Bullwinkle. I don't remember any of them, but I remember there were some.

I like Sheep okay. It's not great, some of it is bad and predictable, but overall I find it watchable.

As for cultural references in Rocky & Bullwinkle, probably the best known one was the Kirward Derby which gave it's wearer an increased level of knowledge. This was a joke on quiz-show host Dirward Kirby, who tried to sue Jay Ward over this.

Finally, some "Sheep in the Big City" fans. I started watching the show a while back, and I love it. It is so much like "Rocky & Bullwinkle", it's scary (the animation is something of a step up from R&B). You just gotta love the puns (General Specific) and breaking the fourth wall (that narrator is a riot).

I've heard this before, and I feel that I should agree; the Ranting Swede does sound a great deal like Paul Rugg.

I also like Sheep in the Big City, just in a strange way. At first I hated this cartoon, but then I actually sat down and watched an episode and I enjoyed it. I watch them more often now.

The animation is pretty half-assed, but for some reason, I just like this show.

Someone who knows a guy who works on the show. Apparently, the 'puns" are being cut down for the new season (I wouldn't know, ionly saw 2 episodes or so).

Mo Willems told me that the new season features Tom Warburton as director(Tom Warburton created Pepper Ann, for those not in the know). He will have no effect on the writing, outside of picking up the pace... Mo says he has a terrific sense of comic timing.

Also, this season brings the end of the Mad Scientist running gag. And no, the season finale won't be continued. We'll just have to love it for being weird.

Perhaps you should read again what I said:

Don't worry. If anything, people have a problem with the slowness of the show, and the really drawn-out conversations. Tom will help appeal to the ADD kids without alienating Mo's fans. And it's not like Mo "stepped down". He's still the creator and head writer and voice artist for the show.

You'll just have to respect Mo's decision on this one..

It's not so much Sheep I was reacting to...Sorry if I didn't explain my illness. But Mr. Warburton is also going to be doing Kids Next Door...Which already sounded like it was going to be another show set in the same mold as Pepper Ann, Recess, etc. I don't think that he will be able to hurt Sheep, but now I am becoming even more scared of Kids Next Door.

I thought that Sue Rose created "Pepper Ann". Also, I don't think that the show will be as good as it was. If the ADD kids have a problem with it, no one's forcing them to watch it; they can switch to Nick and kill their brain cells with "Rocket Power" and "CatDog". I'm sorry, but this has got me upset.

This is unfortunately something I can't agree on with you.

The main problem with the show is that the lines are delivered way too slow in comparison to other cartoons.

General Specific seems to be the only character who talks at normal pace, while everyone else, especially incidentals and certainly Lady Richington and Angry Scientist, delivers their lines very slowly.

If the pace was picked up, not only would more people watch, but they could fit more gags in, and the show would be funnier as a whole.

I like Sheep in the Big City, but I am not a huge fan of it. If I see it on, I will watch it, but I do not look for it.

My favorite things are the plot device and some of the names of things (Major Television Event!). The ranting at the end and the many commercials are hillarious (especially that cruise commercial, where they dance a woman into a brick wall!). The only thing I couldn't get into was...well, the show itself. The stuff that happens to Sheep just isn't too interesting.
