Talkback: An American Tail 3: The Treasure Of Manhattan Island

http://family.go.com/Resources/Features/reviews/famf0800amtail_v_rev_amtail.jpg

Everyone’s favourite mouse adventurer returns in his newest, most exciting quest yet. Fievel along with all his family and friends are back in search of more fun, fame and a buried fortune!

Working in the greedy Fat Rats’ factory, Mr. Mouskewitz wonders if his family will ever get ahead and realise their American dream. But Fievel’s got a plan to make them rich. Enlisting the aid of his buddy Tony and his old pussycat pal Tiger, Fievel discovers a mysterious treasure map that leads them to a magical, secret world beneath the city. It’s there that the brave little mouse meets the beautiful princess Cholina, who holds the key to the real treasure - the hopes and dreams of a better future.

This action- packed 'tail' is filled with plenty of laughs, heart and music, including the great new song, Anywhere In Your Dreams.

I figured that since it WAS a CN Premiere if I can manage to catch them I could make a talkback post for anyone that was watching and had seen it and wanted to post thier reviews on it.

Of course - if youre familiar with the Land Before Time franchise then you know how Universal likes to milk its liscensces to death in Direct To Video sequels. I dunno how Don Bluth and Steven Spielberg can tolerate it...
-______________-

Anyways this Talkback thread is for the movie in question airnig at 7 PM EST on Cartoon Network and tomorrow (Sunday) at I think around 10 or 11. :)

Just for your information - while looking for a picture I discovered that AT4 is already in production - entitled Mystery Of The Night Monster.

.......hooray ^^

Talkback begins now for those that have seen it already by video, or saw the premiere on CN. Be nice. :)

"American Tail III" was the best movie in the series and uithought a third movie was never gong to happen! Ever since i saw "Fievel goes West" i knew that someday a third movie was going to come out. Then eight years later my wish came true! I got the move the day it came out. I'm madly in love with this movie!

It's nice to see Tony Toponi from the original again. Too bad he did not show up for "Fievel Goes West" :( It would be good if it did then he'd really kick the cactus cat gang's tail to St.Louie! WHEEEEEEE!!!!!! What happend to his old girlfriend Bridget?
Did they broke or something? Now that's he loves Cholena?

Speaking of which, I came up with this idea, If they were going to make a fifth installment. It would be called "An Americna Tail V: The Return of Cat R. Waul"

"Fievel can't stop having dream's about Cat R. Waul, T.R. Chula and the Cactus Cat-Gang that tried to turn the mice into mouseburgers in "Fievel Goes West". This Time Around, Cat R. Waul and the Cactus Catgang are back! Cat R. Waul creates a blue serum that he want's to use to brainwash the mice in Manhatten with nightmare's in order to rule Fievel's Dream World. Fievel get's help from Dr. Dithering from American tail 3 to invent a Dream Machine that can take mice into a mouse's dream world. So in order to stop Cat R. Waul's Dirty plan. Fievel, Tony, Tiger, Tanya and Nellie Brie (From American Tail 4) go into Fievel's Dream World to do a Rematch with Cat R. Waul and find a cure to get the nightmare's out of the mice in Manhatten.

The plot's similar to "The Cell" except it's not a horror Film! Except for this Wylie Burp isn't in there. But Ms. Kitty would show up.

What do you think of that idea?

I missed some parts of this film but the ending was heartwarming thatFielvil could still be visited by his native american friends

Ktkb3, you have very strange ideas. You seem to have a thing for blue serums....

I didn't really enjoy the movie. I thought the animation style didn't work for the characters this time around. It's like...their outlines were too prevalent or something. It didn't seem smooth and gorgeous like the last two installments. The indians weren't detailed at all. They were like...pink mouse outlines with faces.

The whole idea with Indians is a bit cliched. I can only think of the Road To El Dorado where it was used once. I know I could think of another instance if I really tried.

The music, I have mixed feelings about. The Lyrics in that whole dream song were mind numbing, but the tune was pretty cool. I didn't really pay much attention to the other songs. I know I could have written better lyrics (Not to sound conceited or anything).

The voices were pretty good. The voices of Tony and Feivel's dad were pretty much dead on. I didn't think the voice of Cholena really fit her character. Oh well. Maybe it's just me.

As for the ending, I guess it was ok. The ending picture with Feivel with that look of happiness on his face with his eyes closed is burned into my mind now, and I wish I could get rid of it. I hate it when movies end like that...you know...with the closed eyes and goofy smile.

American Tale: Good
American Tale 2: Great (My fav in the series)
American Tale 3: Meh!

I thought the series should be done at two. Now that 4 is in production, I fear the destruction of the series is coming on, just like the original Land Before time was massacred with sequals.

*sigh*

This movie wasn't all that good. It was nice that they employed TMS to do the animation laybors, but it was A waste of their talents on something this superficial. I think the series should've ended at number 2. This third movie didn't do much for me, and I don't have any high hopes for the next one. It's pretty obvious that Universal wants to milk their franchies for all their worth, and not come up with any new ideas. How I pitty their lazyness.

At first I thought it would be neat, bringing in the Industrial Revolution and the "robber barons" and all, but GEEZ it was badly executed. The idea of Indians as major threats had died by that time in American history, and the ideas of communism, unions, and immigrants were the new fear. To the industrialists, Mr. Mouskewicz would have seemed more of a threat than a tribe of hiding Indians, because he was an Eastern European immigrant who was (untruthfully) linked to a union. I also thought the idea of sterotyping the industrialists as "evil" was overdone. True, there were those who seriously destroyed any chance of their workers getting ahead, but most of the biggest names couldn't even be tied to those practices because they weren't their practices, they were the practices of those they put in charge of the companies so that they wouldn't have to deal with the day to day processes. I really wish the makers of this movie would have taken the time to do some simple high school level homework.

What I dont get is that I dont remember how AT2 ended...

It started out by saying that Feivel dreamt that he was a Wild West Gunslinger - but if I remember correctly - Feivel Goes West was never a dream sequence @__@

So did they just single handedly denounce Steven Spielbergs second American tail movie as well as Jimmy Cagney's last voice role - because if they did I'm gonna have to send someone at Universal some Demonic Peanuts via air mail.... ;)

The first 2 American Tales were great. Good story. Great animation. Unfortunally the animation was underground for this one just like the few hundred Disney movies made on DVD or theaters these past 2 years. ;) And they're making a fourth movie?!?

The plot's similar to "The Cell" except it's not a horror Film!

Does this mean that Fievel be hung from chains inside his back surrounded by creepy sculptures while watching other mice drowning on a TV?

It's pretty obvious that Universal wants to milk their franchies for all their worth, and not come up with any new ideas.

The Land Before Time is the best example. One was bad enough, but it has more sequals than Power Ranger Shows. I've never liked the first one and I didn't like the rest. It was basically the same thing over and over. The kids aren't grown up still. The "long necks" hated the "big horns"<what do you prefer ladies ;) >. The dinosaurs had to move on. The kids got lost. Petery dosen't use his tallent to his advanteage to make tasks and life easier for the group <He can fly damit! He never does it when they wanna find someone of grab something! Thats why I yell at the TV, "Fly dumb***! Fly!"> Sharptooth somehow survied the last fall into the bottomless pit and then falls into another one. At the end they all find the dinosaurs and settle their differences. What a load of dookie. Why can't they do one about the asteroid that kills those dumb dinosaurs? :D

American Tail 2 ends with Feivel and Wylie Burp just sitting around talking. The camera zooms out and it just ends. No dream sequence.

I bet it's explained at the beginning of the 3rd movie. Too bad I missed that part.

Nin-Nin69. You don't get what i'm saying. When i said it was similar to "The Cell" except it's not a horror film. I meant there isn't any gore in the movie. What you said is not going to happen to Fievel. The movie would not be meant to scare Children. My story is basically is a G rated version of "The Cell". Except there is no gore and no one dies. My story revisit's Green River in a whole new perspective. Where the desert town in deserted and the dream sequences are similar to Fievel's Dream Sequence's in "American Tail 4:The Mystery of the Night Monster"
and the song's for the movie should get a make over and be more Technoish this time around. Since American Tail's 3 & 4 had Three song's. I think the perfect song's for the fifth installment would be:

1.Cat R. Waul's Technoish Version of "Blue Monday"

2.Tanya in her American Tail 2 look singing Trickys "You Don't Wanna"

3.T.R.Chula's version of Busta Rhymes "Bad Dream's" (If they happend to change the lyrics and be more kid friendly and non-scary.)

4.Tony, Tiger, Fievel, Nellie Brie, Tanya, and Ms. Kitty would sing there version of Micheal Jackson's "Unbreakable"

5. and of course a instrumntal techno version of "Somwhere Out There" to play during the end credits.

Well that's five, But i coulden't help myself :)

Are you satisfied Nin-Nin69?

Ktkb3, I'm sorry, but that idea REALLY isn't very good.

The whole American Tail series focuses on immigration and the development of the United States. Dream machines and blue serums just wouldn't stay true to the series at all.

A movie like the one you described would kill the series faster then Universal is already doing by making more of them.

James Cagney has been dead much longer.
