OK,we all know GitS TV will rule everything and we'd all like to see it come to ASA,but check this out.
Would it be possible to simultaneously air it in Japan and America at the same time?Edits wise I doubt there will be much TO edit consideirng it's following the manga quite closely and also since ASA will now be getting a hard TV14 rating.Isn't it possible to dub it in both English and Japanese at the same time?Odds are it'll never happen, but it'd kick some severe ass.

Japan has a very different season set up then we do. they do an initial 12-13 episodes for a series, at that point either the series ties up loose ends or they build to some type of climatic mid section that leaves the second part of the show open, the next set of 12-13 episodes. certain shows that have that type of build are able to continue on and finish up in whatever manner the script writer had planned. very few shows go above the 39 episode mark, this is the tharget mark i have noticed that most shows strive for. in the past there have been very few that have been able to make this mark though...most recently in japan FFU was cut short at the 26th episode mark instead of going on to the 39th episode the show was made for. over here...you first need a pilot episode...from that you determine what the ratings will be and the station decides if they will keep it or not. if they decide to keep it then a certain amount of episodes is contracted up. ussually a season...maybe two if the ratings look promising. and then if the ratings continue to be the same the show continues on its merry way. if there was to be a co-op japan/america production of GitS then it would have to follow the japanese market i believe a little more closely and in that the american company that would be co-producing it would either lose money potentially on lost episodes or lose money potentially on the initial episodes. either way it is something that no american production company would like to risk on...at least that is what i believe.

Cartoon Network doesn't typically follow the norm for American season set-up, either. Especially with their anime. I think it probably will be possible (just not an EXACT simultaneous airing, maybe with a few weeks episode difference), especially considering that it seems they've already bought the broadcast rights to it. It just depends on how quickly it can be dubbed and edited.

the fact is that the future of the show in japan hasnt even been determined yet. it could bomb. what then? you have an american production team working to try and make the episodes availble for american tv immediatly when suddenly there is a cut off? what then? wait a long time to show the final episodes so they can try to make sense of it?

Japanese companies have done bilingual releases before, take a look at Fushigi Yuugi: Eikou Den, sure its just a Four part OVA series. but when it was released in Japan last year/eraly this year, all 4 episodes had both English and Japanese Languages AND they were the same dub studio that did the rest of the series (David Lucas is in it).
It should be easy for them to do a dual boardcast.

word on the street is, GitS TV will premiere the same month as it does in Japan, anyway, if it bombs in japan and gets cancelled, then it'll get get cancelled in the US. besides, if it bombs in japan but it gets high ratings in the US, im sure that the production team will continue working on the series for the Us airing

ohmrbill is right. from what i understand, GitS TV will not be related to the movie, it will be based on a story by shirow.
(thats why its called Stand Alone Complex)

I thought the series was something of a sequel to the movie. However, the series may not be a direct sequel, meaning plot points and characters from the movie might only make a cameo or something in the series. All I know is that the series isn't based on the original manga.
