View Full Version : Samurai Jack: What's his fanbase?

A friend and I were just wondering if Samurai Jack has more male or female fans. Because the SJ forum we usually go to is about 90% female populated. But considering that a lot - not all - of us there are Crazy Drooling Fangirls, I can understand why most guys would get chased off, and that's a shame to me. (And I'm sure CDF are not what the creators intended. ...or is it?)
So I was just wondering what the ratio really is. It doesn't really matter to me. A fan is a fan. It's just been in the back of my mind for a while now.
And I'm sorry for posting this in more than one forum if that's not allowed. I just wanted to reach as many of the show's fans as I could, and there's always been a debate as to where posts on the topic belong.

I never really found SJ interesting.

Howdy,
I voted "Male" 'cuz I am, but in the interests of full disclosure, my wife likes Samurai Jack, too. My brother and his wife are Jack fans also.

It depends really.....I'm part of a group of about 18 or so. Etch, Megan, Becki, Tamaken, Kelly, the two Michelles, Nicole and I are female, but Tamaar, Jon, Satan, Peter, Raphael, Evan, Mike, John, and Seq. Guy are all male. So it's evenly split.
 I should've known there'd be more guys who like SJ than girls, although not all girls watch the show just to drool. :p ;)

I love jack! I too voted male, also because that's what I am. I do have to say that I don't know any females that like SJ, but then again, I don't know ANYONE besides me who likes jack! Sad really...

I never really thought about it too much. I suppose its more male, but I'm sure there are plenty of females besides me who watch it.

This is an excellent question....
Well, I am a Samurai Jack fan, and a female one at that. So...I guess add one more drooling fangirl to the tally. :p

I'm not a fan, but I voted female simply because someone in my family DOES watch the show. My little sister.
I used to like the show myself, until Samurai Jack started losing his shirt in every episode. That was stupid.

Obviously, fangirls never tire of that, but you're right. They need to lay off the shirt-ripping.

Eheheh... I got my last one off the back of the DVD cover, and then I got this one out of the comic. ;) :D
While I like the show alright,it's definately not one of my favourites.I just don't like how the story never arks, every episode Jack never really achieves anything,or progresses on his quest. It's sort of like gilligan's island, where every episode COULD be the last, but it never is.Jack never changes, characters don't develop, and when the series does end,it will be so that you could play the first episode and last episode back to back, and you'd see the whole story.Because jacks adventures in the middle never bring him closer to his goal, they just go around in circles.
Plus,I hate how Jack never bleeds.I mean, with all he goes through, all that happens is his shirt gets torn and his hair gets messed up.Plus,he never kills anyone except robots.I mean, when the world is a corrupted mess and your the only hope for the salvation of the universe,I think its stupid that you don't kill anyone.

Jack doesn't bleed because CN won't allow it.
It's part of the American pursuit to shield children from seeing blood. Get a clue, kids see blood everyday. They fall off their bikes, their gums bleed, kids fight, kids cut themselves. I think they can handle a bleeding Jack.
the only time the staff felt free was in XVIII when Jack was carving up those Marauders, not to mention the gory death scene from the 2nd village: Robot Death everywere, oil splattered, robots impaled on stakes.
I'm not saying Jack has to gush, just a few believable drops here and there. For now, we get those red streaks, for when he gets raked across the skin.
