I have a couple of laptop problems with close TZ compardres must be getting pretty sick of me moaning about.

Simply, I keep getting 'cannot display this page' pages. Not disconnected, just unable to display the page. After a few refreshes normally the page works.

I've noticed that my received and sent data stream seems to halt frequently, so I'm not being kicked, it's as if the information for whatever reason is not being received by the modem?

Any ideas? Anyone had an experience like this? Pretty sure it's not the ISP - I have my own ideas but I thought I'd see if I could get some second opinions first...

Unless you have AOL, (or EOL in your area ;) ), those shouldn't be happpening.

I'm not on AOL (thank the maker), I'm not sure what the issue - sometimes it's okay, sometimes it's not. I thought it maybe the modem port, but it still seems to be so, well, variable in it's data stream. Time to call the technical support methinks...

It happens to me only once in a while. Usually it's due to server congestion over here. Tends to happen with dial connect.

Yes, this is one of the many curses of using a dial-up connection. I get it also so you can join the club. What are you using right now, SJJ?

I'm using the accursed BT internet service (which has warned me already that I'm in trouble for using their service too much for what they consider anytime!). Yet my old PC never had the amount of data freezes I have on the same ISP.

I spoke to an IT contact who reckoned it was still the ISP. I'm going to have to try another ISP, see how that goes and transport my old PC back to the phone line (more lifting and heaving) to see if they - and yourselves are right.

It seems unlikely as just the other week on the other PC it was fine, but if logical points to that direction, that direction it must be....
