Here I am, suffering from mild tonsillitus (and vague irritation for this pitiful new family Laptop) wondering what was the nastiest illness you have had?
I hate tonsil infections. I've had them so many times. This one isn't too bad - but is there any stories which would put my self pity clearly into perspective? Or should I glory in my nasty throat and expect many a get well card from you all!? ;)

One time, I had a really high fever. Other than that, I've had the flu. I don't get sick very often. In fact, I have'nt been sick for the past 3 years.

Outside of 24hr colds and flus, a nasty case of food poisoning in Israel. Got it the last night I was there and by the time my plane was over the Atlantic I was miserable, and I stayed that way for 4 days beyond that out to Arizona to join my family. Was always deydrated, sleepy, barely hungry and generally drained. Thankfully, it cleared up the night before I went to Knot's Berry Fram. :D

I think everyone has had a really high fever at least once. I won't even go into the temperatures I had. I happen to get sick very often. It is generally five times a year. As for the most annoying sickness I ever had, it must be that one a year or two ago that lasted twelve days, getting quite bad at two points. The worst was, according to my parents, when I was one year old. Of course I don't remember it.

I rarely get sick, maybe once or twice in a year, and it's never been that bad. had the flu a few times, chicken pox, just the common cold. My worst was when I was little. Mom said I got a really severe case of the flu because they had me in the hospital for it. I feel your pain SJJ. I've always had issues with my tonsils, and any cold that I do get always involves my throat, it's such a major pain.

My worst was food poisoning too. I got it winter break 2000 when I was in India. I also had a fever on top of that and it was the most miserable experience I can remember. Couldn't eat for three days, and if I tried it just came back up. My cheeks, wrists, and shoulders were considerably thin and gaunt after that. Mom also tried feeding me rice porridge, and I hate rice porridge.
Good to see you still have a sense of humor. Always a good sign. :)

Oooh, could you take it away as well then? Please? :)
I'm not that bad. Actually that's a bit of a lie. I wasn't too bad earlier, slightly raised tonsils and I got some antibiotics just in case it got worse - which it did, but then I pushed on with various tasks I had to (shopping, taking my grandmother to the hospital) and so by the end of the day I felt pretty bad and very feverish.
The pills should take affect sometime tomorrow afternoon so I have a fun night in store.. not feeling so bad at the moment. The pills should make the ride easier from here.
I'm not normally that ill - although like Barb I am prone to tonisil infections occasionally. The worst one I had was after a gig and the smoke made it worse. I went into some sort of shock on top of tonsilitus I believe it's called riga (sp) where the illness poisons the system you go into a high fever and you can't stop shaking. I was in hospital after that - hospital! For tonsilitus! I thus missed out on my end of college gig and was housebound for a couple of months (heh heh, or internet bound should I say)...
Why share all this uncomfortable stuff? Well as Twilight rightly said, keeping it light hearted is always good and not let it bog you down.
In fact, the only reason I'm up at 2am is to tape the X-Files (I believe not in time record). :)
lumpy porridge Twilight? YUK!

Good grief SJJ, why don't they take your tonsils out if they cause you so much trouble? Don't they still do that? (Pardon my ignorance, my tonsils have never given me a moment's trouble.)
I was really sick with a bad head/chest cold for two weeks around Christmas, New Year's, and my birthday (Jan 3) this past year. Just when I seemed to get better it would hit me all over again. Happy Holidays to me!
Anyway, I hope you feel better SJJ! :) :D

I had scarlet fever when I was 7 or 8. It's one of those things that are supposed to be wiped out like smallpox, but in fact is only really rare these days. It made Helen Keller blind and deaf.
I spent a day in the hospital, and a bunch of medical students (residence or something) came in to see me. Or that's what my mom says, I don't remember this, but she says I was drifting in and out of consciousness apparently. ^_^'

From December last year to the end of Feburary I was sick with 3 different things. A disease for each month. I had a cold, food poisoning, and just some dumb cough thing. I rarely get sick since I don't really go out a whole lot plus I'm homeschooled so I guess it was just one point where my immunity system lost a huge fight.

Hmmm, really bad food poisoning, like not even eating anything and throwing up, constantly... Also this annoying cough that just wouldn't go away. Such an uplifting thread, J/K. :D

One problem of having a national health service is that you have to meet a certain criteria for them to perform the operation. I believe it has to be something like tonsillitus 6 times in one year or 5 over 2 years, something like that. Unfortunately mine has been spread over several years. Not that the idea of an operation doesn't scare me at all...... they did offer, I think, when I went to hospital, but I chickened out I think - they said it was something they could do, but the ball was in my court. They were recommending it, but they would if I insisted. I didn't insist and it's not been a massive problem.
Biggest problem I had was gladular fever - that knocked me for six when I was 17 and affected me so bad I wasn't even allowed to walk into town for the energy it would sap (and the risk that my weakened state would make me fall ill with, erm, tonsillitus!)
I still feel I have it. I get drained pretty quickly - far more than I think I should. Anyothers out there suffer/suffered from glandular fever? If so, you have my sympathy!
BTW, feeling better today. Rough night at still 'ooky', but on the mend thanks to those woooonderful pills! Thanks for the kind words y'all!

I had to get my tonsils out when I was like 4,I dont know..I guess they were too big so I could barely breath >_< and after I got them out,I kept having problems with it bleding down my throat and I got hospitalized like 4 times after my operation. Not a fun thing when your 4...
I guess my worst illness is when I had strep when I was 7..I remember that well,cause I had it on christmas --;
other than that I get the flu,and colds every once in awile..infact,I just got over a flu ^^; but I'm glad I didnt have it too bad..like last year when I got the flu,I couldnt eat anything, and if I did,it would just come back up..x_x;but I did miss half the week at school :D
