[The Ectokid comic] lasted nine issues back in 1993-1994, and has now been picked up in a movie/television deal by Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures for over seven figures. According to Variety, the studios are planning to develop the property into both a feature film and a television series that would air on Nickelodeon.

Originally, the series starred Dex Mungo, a young thief who was also the child of a psychic and a ghost. Thanks to his unique parentage, Dex is able to see the living with one eye, and the dead that exist in our world with the other Barker will produce the feature version of the story with Sony-based Don (From Hell) Murphy, and will serve as an executive producer of the TV version. Nickelodeon and Paramount are expected to pay in the high-six figures for the producing component of Barker's deal.

"I hope to create a franchisable world for Nickelodeon," said Barker in an interview with Variety, "but also one of great, transcendent beauty; one that reconfigures people's expectations of what ghosts are, of what comes after death."
