"Samurai Jack" may be headed to theaters near you sometime in the future. Even before it premiered on the network, Cartoon Network was so confident that "Samurai Jack," the ground-breaking new series from Genndy Tartakovsky, would become a hit, that plans were already under way for a feature film. The series has grabbed much media attention for its beautiful animation and diverse plot.
Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. will be co-releasing "Powerpuff Girls: The Movie," based on the immensely popular series. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters in the summer of 2002. If the "PPG" movie does well, then Cartoon Network would certainly move forward with the proposed "Samurai Jack" film. In recent weeks, Cartoon Network's new executive vice president and general manager Jim Samples has said that he would like to make franchises out of Cartoon Network's original programming by developing them into films. If "Samurai Jack" does become a theatrical, you won't see it in theaters for several years to come.
"Samurai Jack" has already proved to be a solid performer weekly for Cartoon Network. The series airs Monday nights at 9:00 PM and has encore showings, Fridays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 8:00 PM.
