This is for all the non-AOL subscribers out there who aren't able to access the exclusive Samurai Jack materials available only through AOL, which includes (I am told) a sneak peek at the Samurai Jack action figure line.
Fortunately for the rest of us non-AOLers, promotional mini-posters (like this one you can view by clicking HERE) with full color photos of the upcoming line of action figures were distributed to all who attended Cartoon Network's exclusive Samurai Jack world premiere movie screenings at the San Diego Comic-Con International on July 21 and 22.
Here's a closer look at the figures (thanks to the wonders of Photoshop):

Two-Hand Slicing Samurai Jack TM

Side Slash Samurai Jack TM

Space Battle Samurai Jack TM

Spinning Blade Samurai Jack TM

Spin Attack Aku TM

Warrior Action Samurai Jack TM

These figures are closely modeled after specific character designs from the show (the Spinning Blade figure is based on Jack's precise appearance from a very funny and cool scene in the premiere). Some figures sport real cloth costumes; all have action features and accessories; and they nearly all appear to be heavily articulated (that's action figure collector-speak for "moving appendages") - the wrists, knees, elbows, shoulders, waist and head all look to be fully posable. This means they will provide many hours of fun play factor for kids (and those who are kids at heart), and mondo posability possibilities for collectors (well, those who take their figures out of the package, at any rate).
If you're curious to know the scale (size) of these figures -- according to a Cartoon Network representative, 5 of the figures are 6.5 inches tall (the lone Aku figure being one of them). The other figure - Warrior Action Samurai Jack TM - is a full 12 inches tall.
The promo poster doesn't credit the company that produced these figures, but they look truly outstanding and they certainly won't disappoint collectors. And I imagine that a lot of kids will be very happy with them too.
These figures will be available exclusively at shop.cartoonnetwork.com beginning September 1, 2001, possibly along with some other SJ-related merchandise. At this time Cartoon Network does not know if the figures will be released to retail stores either in the U.S. or internationally. Beginning in September, the only place you'll be able to get them is CN's online store.
If you haven't our previous SJ promotion, be sure to take a look at Toon Zone's Samurai Jack Preview for full details on the show, including images.
And here's some additional news from CN rep Joe Swaney, on encore presentations of the Samurai Jack premiere (for those like myself, who will enjoy it so much that they'll have to watch it again).
In addition to the feature length world premiere--Friday night, Aug.
10, 7-8:30 p.m.--Cartoon Network has scheduled several encore
presentations of SAMURAI JACK: The Trilogy. So if viewers are not able to
catch the television debut, there are several additional
opportunities:
Saturday, Aug. 11 -- 7-8:30 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 12 -- 10-11:30 a.m.
Sunday, Aug. 12 -- 8-9:30 p.m.
The program will then settle into its regular Monday night time-slot
at 8 p.m. with half-hour episodes.
Another CN representative states that neither Samurai Jack nor Justice League will be a part of "Cartoon Cartoon Fridays." CN has not yet ascribed a title to this new Monday primetime action programming block. According to my source, encore presentations of both shows will air on Sundays between 8-9 PM for an indefinite time.
If you crave more details on what I believe is a groundbreaking series in animated entertainment - you should first visit Cartoon Network's official Samurai Jack website, and follow it up by spending some time at CN's Department of Cartoons spotlight on Samurai Jack.
And if that's not enough, I've just added some new scans to an earlier SJ news report from Vince - click HERE to view them.
And if you still want more, come back next week for a full review of the premiere that will also include exclusive convention photos of SJ creator Genndy Tartakovsky and Phil LaMarr (voice of Samurai Jack), Q&A with Genndy, and possibly another extensive surprise as well.
