View Full Version : Blockbuster and Home Movies

Hello everyone.

I've recently seen a Blockbuster commercial flaunting something about their games, and I noticed something about it. Although the first half of it was something about urinating on a sofa, which is good in and of itself, the second half features what just may be a Home Movies "quote." Two guys walk in, and say something to the effect of "Wow, all of these games are guaranteed." "I told you, pay up." The guy who apparently lost the bet rips off his pants, and falls onto the game shelf. Then, he runs around the rack with his shirt or underwear (couldn't quite tell) on his head, screaming "I'm a pretty lady!" in a very Brendon-esque voice.

Co-ink-a-dink? You decide.

Oh yeah, first post. w00t and all that. :bosko:

Yeah, that was the first thing I thought of when I saw that commercial too. Isn't it weird how the episode where Brendan says that just aired on Sunday, and those commercials just started airing a few days ago? Hmmm...

He was wearing his pants on his head. And I noticed it too. I would think that most people at this board would, especially since that episode just re-aired.

Adult Swim is changing the universe a little bit every day. For better or for worse? Who can say? HAHAHAHAHA.

Yeah I saw that too and thought of Home Movies as well. Brings back the whole "Black Andy/White Andy" controversy doesn't it? :p

This is nothing like the Andy Richter thing... in that show, at least it was a bigger issue... the new "black" guy was going to be called Andy, and the old Andy would be "fat" Andy. So he said why not call him "Black" Andy. Way different from Sealab.

This, on the other hand, is just blatant, IMHO. We should write to Soup2Nuts -- there may be lawsuit potential here...

Wait, it's lawsuit potential to get the creator of a show to act out one of his characters on TV? They probably even had permission, and did it BECAUSE of the rising AS/HM popularity.

Here is the real Brendon Small.

I'm...not so sure it's the same guy from the commercial. I'd probably have to see it again to be sure.

Lawsuit? What the hell?! That's ridiculous! Ever heard of similar jokes, joke recycling, any things like that. There's NOTHING wrong with it. I wonder what makes 'em think "ripoff" & "lawsuit" while they're watching TV. Applying funny things seen from 'toons into live-action sitcom or vice versa happens way more often than you notice, most the time, these things fly over heads. If lifting lines, jokes, quoting things warranted the threat of lawsuit, I think Matt Stone & Trey Parker would be way out of jobs & hela-broke. & to quote a scenario from South Park last week, "Simpsons did it". Sometimes, you see/hear things, they sink way down into the influence of your brain, sometimes you come up with ideas, that aren't ideas at all, they're memories.

Back on square, that Blockbuster commercial, I thought the same thing when I heard "pretty lady". But, there's been many commercials I could've sworn that some Home Movies talent was voicing them. There was a cellphone/digital phone, whatever the hell those things are, commercial over the radio for a while that sounded, well, very soccer coach-esque. Often, people's voices are voiced over, ha ha, with better talent getting to talk, a practice used in motion picture. I would almost be willing to bet that was Small in that BB commercial, not him, but his voice, LOL.

i was told it was him on annother forum
but after all this time i came to realize one thing:
it's one damn line. i bet the creators never even saw home movies, just thought that line would be funny.
so whatever, let's just call it a damn coincidence and move on with our lives

i actually do think it was brendon small... that picture above was from a few years ago when the first season was on.. he could have grown a little and gotten a fro like hair style.. or just put it up that way for the commercial.. the facial features are pretty close though... i just have to see the commercial a few more times...

I was actually thinking about starting a thread just like this, but I figured it had to be just a coincidence. I guess you gotta trust your AS instincts sometimes.

Oh, this is very true. There's a fairly respectable website (meaning it's not "just a fansite") called Film Threat that focuses mainly on independent film, but also it reviews mainstream movies as well. Apparently, some of them are quite the AS fans. Check out the review of the monstrosity "Eight Legged Freaks" (http://www.filmthreat.com/Reviews.asp?Id=3398) for a great Sealab refrence.

Hey, cool... somebody else reads filmthreat. Anyhow, every time I see the commercial, the more I think it's a direct lift from AS... I mean, the impersonation of Brendan is really, really good.
