ABC Family, TCM dig BDA gold
July 01, 2002

ABC Family, Turner Classic Movies and the Cartoon Network were among the top winners at the BDA Design Awards honoring broadcast promotion and design. Meanwhile at the Promax Awards, TV Land landed the highest honor, and NBC walked away with a clutch of awards for its promotional work on its Olympics programming. The awards were announced during the Promax & BDA conference last week at the Los Angeles Convention Center. On Thursday, ABC Family and Turner Classic Movies won two Gold BDA awards each for in-house on-air design. The Cartoon Network took home the Judge's Choice award for its work on the Adult Swim block. The Adult Swim campaign also won a Gold award for on-air overall package. ESPN won a Gold in the sports overall package category, while Showtime won a Gold Overall in the image print category for its "Queer as Folk" campaign. VH1 won the topical print category Gold Overall award for its VH1 Vogue Fashion Awards campaign. (Marla Matzer Rose)

WOOHOO! YEAH!

Good job, you guys!

And you know what the ironic thing is? They received their award the very day G.I. Joe came out to their network...

Hm... Do you think maybe the awards were announced way beforehand, and CN ordered G.I. Joe early so they can use it as their celebration mark? I'm starting to sense a conspiracy... -_-

Uhhhhh..... no offence but who the hell cares? What kind of crappy unimportant award is THAT???

The award for best promotion.... oy vey.
Well it's nice and all. hell a little recognition is always good and I want them to get more, but it just seems stupid.
Like if they were to give away awards for giving away awards
Award shows where award shows win awards...
she sells sea shells on the sea shore.... wait what?

Think of this award as sputnik... it was no apollo mission, but it was the first step towards the stars. AS and CN need all the awards they can get. Each one is a little publicity into an unknown market. I mean, what happens if the old dudes on the baord start watching to see why they won the award and suddenly AS has become the talk of the geriatrics? It brings in ratings and voting power, which is what we need to increase revenue and fix ASA.

This definitely deserves some congratulations and we should all be hoping it leads to bigger and better things for AS.

That's pretty cool. I'm glad it's won something. After all, it's kept my attention ever since the first day.

While its not the Emmys or anything...this is a big award for artists. Broadcast graphics and art are VERY competive(especially on a national level) and the fact the AS was recognized, I think, is fantastic. Since the shows themselves are artwork and the ads are a bit off the wall for your average joe, makes it even better!
