yeah.. i never noticed how brendon always seems like hes half awake constantly in the first season. Has the voice actor for Paula changed from season 1 to 2? In season one the voice sounds like a comedian ive seen on comedy central before. i cant remember her name.

hydrokarst, are you thinking of Paula Pounstone?
And yes the quality has increased. Even Brendon's movies have too!

Yeah, after seeing a season 1 ep, I really appreciate season 2 more. Season 3 will be great.

Paula Poundstone did the voice of Paula in the episodes for UPN (half of the 1st season). I believe that she was unavailable when it was picked up by Cartoon Network and that she only appears in the 1st 6 episodes.
They have more info on the various home movies sites you can find linked to in older threads.

The truth is, with Home Movies, that you have to look beyond the poor quality of the animation and into the jokes themselves. The title serves a double purpose. It's what the characters like to make (Home Movies) and it's what the show itself looks like (it looks like it was made in somebody's damp basement... at their home... hence "Home Movies")

In addition, I would like to add that the poor script quality of the show is intentional, a process called retro scripting. The boost in script quality is due to the fact that while before, the entire script was made up on the spot, now, they have a short script and ad lib off of it.

-Big Ben The first episodes being created for CN are the season 3 episodes. I believe you are referring to the pilot episodes when you talk about the first 6 episodes, but it was always on UPN until AS came in, and UPN aired the first 2 seasons.

From what I read on a fan site, the ones with Paula Poundstone were the only ones to air on UPN... Of course, fans, like me, have been known to be wrong.
If anyone feels like, it would be cool if you found out the truth.

IMO the current Paula(Janine Ditullio) is a much better VA than Paula Poundstone was.

It all depends on opinion. Paula is paula. Janine is Janine (even though she plays Paula). I personally prefer Janine as well, although Poundstone did have her strong points (her deeper voice added to the aura of masculenity the character possesed, for example).
On a lighter note: Where DID the cheeze go? Wait... found it.

UPN only aired the first 6 episodes. All 13 were produced for UPN.
Season 2 was produced for Cartoon Network. I believe Politics was the only one that wasn't, because it was some sort of prototype episode(it's the only Flash episode made before 2001).
Season 3 is also entirely Cartoon Network.

I think Janine is a better VA, but they treated Paula's character better pre-season 2. She was a main character back then, and a really intresting, funny one, but she was made more of a background presence in Season 2 and wasn't near as funny.

It's quite possible that with Paula Poundstone leaving and with the way the character's life hasn't really changed, they migth have Brendan move in with his dad and lessen her role even more. Or maybe she and Dad will get back together (NO!!!!). Of course, it's all speculation what might happen, but I know I want to see Walter and Perry's wedding!

Frankly, I just think that they are going to increase the amount of scenes at school and decrease the amount of scenes at home, just to avoid all of the hoo-haw. That's too bad, because Paula is a unique character. I don't think that Brendon is going to move in with his father, because that cause an extreme problem (Brendon and the stepmom). Plus, in real life the blood mother keeps custody of the child, unless the mother is killed or relinquishes it (lets hope Paula does none of these things).

Or if the father gets custody because the mom doesn't make enough money or can't support a family or is a drug addict or is unfit or if the father is better suited... lots of reason why a father would get custody. And the fighting with the step-mom would bring a (relatively) new angle to the show.

I love Paula. She's great. A stuttering Obsessive Compulsive with a heart of gold, a sharp wit, and a good humor about life. I think alot more could be done with her (and Josies) if the writers would just try a little harder. Linda brings an intersting angle to the show, but there's no way in hell I could put up with it full time.

Randomguy, you have got a great point, and I agree. Linda's whinniness is okay every once in a while, but having to put up with it full time would be hellaceous (although I have noticed that Linda has been getting better, in addition to getting along with Brendon better).
I also think that your thoughts on Paula are correct. She is a unique character, and a groundbreaking one, too. What I mean is: When has a humorous, cussing, OCD, victim ever been a protagonistic entity in a show? The only media form that comes to mind is a movie ("As Good as it Gets").
All in all, randomguy, I concur.
