Hell yeah. There's so many anime romances out there like Kare Kano or To Heart that just NEED exposure plus series like Lain with tons of US appeal that aren't quite action.Even som US shows like repeats of Daria would be a gift.

I say friday should be a mix fantasy, darma, sci/fi, american, japanese, just to bring a little mix.

I would like AS Drama and Movies, but CN would not air it on Fridays. They don't want to target that much to kids, and CCF gets loads of revenue for CN. They didn't even want to pre-empt it for June Bugs.

CCF ends @ 11:30PM. Losing half-an-hour wouldn't hurt CCF at all.
Personally though, I'd rather expand ASA into Friday nights so they can show movies and run the longer shows two episodes/week. I'm sure if WS can throw in shows that were editted from Toonami into ASA, they can throw a drama in and get away w/ it.

I wouldn't mind seeing it considering it would open the door to stuff like Lain that's neither action nor comedy. Then again, I'd prefer they axe the labels all together and just call the whole unit 'Adult Swim' so we don't have to worry about 'Adult Swim Drama' or something like that.

It ends at 6AM Saturday. I just don't go that far when writing previews for the news posts.

It sounds like a good Tuesday thing. Don't ask why, it just sounds right.

You know, I've always considered the two blocks with more broad categories: "blatently humorous" "more serious."
I agree with Sheamon. I don't like labels. They can get rid of Tenchi & Outlaw Star (something we've seen ad nauseum) and Pilot Candidate (which only deserves one showing anyway). And there's three slots already. Just have Saturdays be Action/Drama and don't spread the butter too thin.

The ASA/ASC labels themselves are really an invention by the fans to help distinguish between the two nights. Neither one is advertised as being called Adult Swim Action or Adult Swim Comedy, though it's obvious that they were purposely programmed to have all action on Saturday, and all comedy on Sunday.
So, I don't think there'd be a problem with throwing some drama into either block. Of course, it'd almost definitely go into the Saturday night block, since it'd just fit in better there.

I say CN should go with Friday AS. Hell they should put a AS block on every day!

I would love it if there was more nights of AS, but I don't think it will happen anytime soon.

they should double the comedy nights so they have time to show everything.
Home Movies, Baby Blues, Mission Hill, Oblongs, ATHF, Sealab, Brak, H.Birdman, SGC2C, plus specials and whatever new series they want to pick up
3 hours a week is just too little time to show all that.

Instead on another night of Adult Swim, why don't they just give "Midnight Run" to AS, with the "big blocks" on Saturday and Sunday? They could have one comedy show (like "Home Movies") and one drama ("Gundam" always works :)).

Sounds good to me and they wouldn't have to bother CCF so the kiddies would get to keep thier bolck and it would keep all the parents happy. Maybe they could even add an extra hour to it so we could get to see more.

AS already had a thursday block near the beginning of it's creation. It was before they had ASA. Thursday just repeated every show that was on Sunday on Thursday, so you had a chance to see it again in case you missed it or just loved it so much you just wanted to see it again. They took away Thursday AS and brought in ASA on Saturday. ASA has many shows that were previously on CN but on like Midnight Run or on Toonami.
Also a little known fact: Before AS premiered Toonami would run specials each highlighting different things. One show they had was totally devoted to music, with Daft Punk and Gorillaz mixed in with their own home grown music videos.

I agree with dumping some of the shows on ASA. Tenchi and Outlaw Star have been done to death, and I don't need to say anything about Pilot Canidate.
As far as a ASD block goes, I don't think that there are enough shows to put on it, those that Cn would find appealing to demographics, I mean. Yes I know there are alot of anime dramas out there, but even an otaku like me doesn't want AS to become ALL anime. Kare Kano would be great but some shows would probably turn alot of people off, Lain especially.
Plus I still believe that CN holds their Cartoon Cartoons higher than anything else on the network, so I think that Friday would be pushing it.

I certainly think expansion to a third night would be good. I'm sick of the overwhelming amount of Anime on AS, though. There are really only two Anime shows currently on that seem to belong: Cowboy Bebop and Yu Yu Hakushow(barely). Before they could expand to a third night, I think they need to completely fill the other two with original material (unseen) that fits the Adult Swim monniker.

they should just make a channel of AS. then maybe the censor people will get off their backs.

That's easier said than done. As it's been said before, CN has rights to only X number of episodes to Y number of AS shows. There's no way they'd turn that into a network without a boatload of new acquisitions. CN won't want to take the risk of that investment anytime soon.

I didn't think so but that would be cool.

Oh, would it ever!!!
If they can't give us an entire channel, they should at least give us more than two nights per week (and it's not even the entire night - other channels that split their content - like Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite - actually give the whole night to the other content: 9p.m. - 6a.m)
So how about 3 nights per week 11p.m. - 6a.m.? :)
Also, just an opinion on the earlier label discussion: I agree - no labels.
Adult Swim is Adult Swim is Adult Swim!! :D

Yea, you're right. I just checked the scheduled. This Friday shows PPG from 8PM-6AM or somthing like that. Next week it resumes normally. I must've looked at it a week when they had a special or somthing like they do this week. If I remember, they had a few episodes of The Flintstones running back to back or somthing. I don't watch CCF anyways. Still, it wouldn't hurt them to cut CCF down some...

They should make new blocks for AS at 1AM-3AM Monday through thursday. That should fit them all if their on separate days, and they can get a few new shows or specials for thursday. Like for instance...
Mon- Home movies/Baby Blues/Mission Hill/Space Ghost
Tues- The Brak Show/Sealab/Aqua teens/Harvey Birdman/Yuyu hakusho/cowboy bebop
Wed- Pilot Candidate/ Gundam 0083/ Outlaw Star/ Tenchi
Thur- New show (or show aried on one of the previous days/ New show (ditto)/AS special/ AS special
Whadda think?

To answer the original question, no. Friday should not become Adult Swim Drama.
Why not? CCF rules the night, beating Nickelodeon on a regular basis (which CN execs LOVE), and as long as they keep on doing that, CCF will remain the dominant force of Friday nights.
But let's think a moment about future AS expansion.
As noted, Saturday nights are dedicated to action (from 9 PM to 5 AM, the whole network is all action, out of which three hours is AS domain) and Sunday nights are dedicated to comedy network-wide from 8 PM to 5 AM (out of which, three hours belong to AS). Look at the placement of those two blocks. They're on the weekend. So, instead of putting another Adult Swim block on Friday, how about putting a drama-oriented block on during the middle of the week, Wednesday nights?
An abbrievated two-hour block dedicated to serious drama would fit in the Wednesday night late-prime time slot from 10 PM to Midnight. It could also be a home for full-length animated films that would never get a chance on Cartoon Theater, and besides which, it's on during a time when people are awake and not interrupting my daily Conan viewing.
Of course, that's my opinion.

Of course, that's my opinion.
That was very Dennis Miller-esque.
Seriously, folks, like Sheamon, I don't like putting labels on everything (my ideal world would have them calling them AS domestic and AS foreign), but if the labels are here to stay, then we NEED AS Drama. And not just to show stuff like Lain. Nah, I'm talking about shows developed for the block. Drama shows, which tackle adult topics in a mature, thoughtful way, with neither the need to make it's audience laugh or blow up stuff to keep people entertained, would be chance for AS to break real ground.
