View Full Version : Who else thinks AS should be built around Mission Hill?

I mean like for advertising and just in general.MH is the only show on ASC that actually resembles a real show.I also think it's the best thing on ASC and can be liked by most of the public where stuff like sealab,HM,and Auqa Teens is really for the demented humor lovers (Well,HM is more intelligent but still disliked by a lot).I think CN should put it back on at 11 and advertise aorund that.

Yes.

Yes, they should.

I dunno about being builty around it, per se, but more hype and advertising as well as the 11:00 pm time slot would be pretty nice and well deserved.

On a semi-related note...they seemed very overly hyper about Mission Hill's content when they showed the disclaimer after the commercial break during the middle of the show...same with the rating being on the screen all the time. I KNOW why they did it, but I honestly don't entirely understand it. Revenge of the Mooninites had more "controversal" material in it and they weren't this crazy over warning the public about its content. I can understand it more for the first one, but, eh, I probably have no idea what I'm talking about.

I see what you mean about the "real shows". HM and MH are the only "real shows", but the other shows are funny.

Did everyone forget that Baby Blues exists?

yeah, it's a good idea. I don't care for conventional sitcom-like cartoon shows like Mission Hill and Baby Blues. they're only a notch above garbage like Rugrats and Hey Arnold. but advertising shows like these would certainly lure more of the "normies" and other more conservative viewers to Adult Swim.
put all the conventional stuff like Mission Hill and Baby Blues on from 9-10pm. then bring in the weirder, more daring stuff after that (10pm-1am).

Nope.

Mission Hill is great and all, but the Williams Street shows are the backbone of ASC, even if they're not as "edgy" as MH (which can only be called "adult" because of its dependence on shock humor.)

I think it was because of the word "masturbation" was just the final straw on the back. It's rarely touched on network TV.They may say some innuendo but very rarely do they say the actual word.

I was actually shocked when they said that on last week's episode. I know countlees shows that reference to it, but never did they actually say it. It lead me to believe that "masturbate" was one of the "forbidden words that can't be said on TV". So that would explain my shock.

If you think Mission Hill relies on shock humor, ho ho, you're wrong. I wouldn't say it's not daring either.

If Adult Swim were fueled by Williams Street alone, the block will never ever get respect in the television industry. Nor will it ever amass a big amount of viewers.

Let's face it. Williams Street's shows are cult followings. But SMALL cult followings. And they'll always be that.

With shows like Mission Hill, CN could actually pull in enough viewers to make Adult Swim a thriving portion of the network.

I know what you're saying, even though I've never even watched Mission Hill. Shows like Brak, Sealab, and Space Ghost are not meant to have engaging plots or developed characters -- just off-the-wall, bizarre humor that's as outrageous as possible (and quite often random). By outrageous I don't mean shocking -- just absolutely crazy. Plot really isn't a major factor.

A key difference between the Williams Street shows and the others, as far as which shows to "center" the block around (though exactly what that entails is somewhat nebulous), is that the WS shows are original Cartoon Network-produced shows, whereas the other shows are castoffs from other networks. With the second season of Home Movies, CN can now claim it as its own, but Mission Hill and Baby Blues are still just syndicated reruns (even if many episodes never aired the first time around).

And why does everyone dismiss Mission Hill as "shock humor"? There's a difference between shock humor and mature content. South Park is shock humor. Beavis and Butthead is shock humor. In Mission Hill, the language and subject matter are servient to the stories and the characters, not an end unto themselves. Guess what, twentysomething city-dwelling slackers tend to drink, swear, and screw a lot. That's the universe the show takes place in. Back when it was premiering on WB (though did it ever air? I never saw it) I read a brief interview with creator Josh Weinstein, where he said that the main reason he wanted to do Mission Hill was to deal with things he couldn't do as a longtime producer of The Simpsons (another show which managed to buck early accusations of shock humor), things that were part of the experience of adolescents and young adults. That's what the show is doing, not going for cheap titters by saying "******bag".

I think that Mission Hill is the best thing to happen to ASC in a while. that and Aqua Teen are the only things i watch anymore (im so tired of Home Movies, its getting really repetitive). Ihave a few eps from its WB days on tape, and im glad to see the ones i missed. (the one where andy becomes his bosses sleazy assistant is a great one :p ) I hope they somehow (i know its not likely) are able to bring it back from the dead like HM (again, i know its not likely) also, its not that raunchy, i dont know what everyone is complaining about. oh well.
