We know they got the rights to all the Dreamworks movies and this one comes to mind for me personally. It was a fantastic movie taking very few liberty's with the story of Exodus (heck it actually mentioned that it wasn't completly accurate.) With the recent announcement that they'd be airing some of Dreamworks stuff I have to wonder, how can they possibly air this one (or the Joseph movie?) I mean we talk about not being able to have religious refrences, this one puts shows like Big O, Trigun and even Evangelion away I mean it's from the BIBLE. Personally I would find this way more offensive than any religious refrence they could have ever leave in one of their animes (being a devote Christian and an animation fan) ya know.
So anyone have any ideas?

I think CN will be less afraid to show more religion in their programs down the line.

That right there is the big difference. All of those animes that mention religion (like Big O) or parallel bible stories (like Evangelion) could be offensive to an uptight, anal retentive person. "The Prince of Egypt", however, can't. It's actually from the bible. It's a real bible story, liberties or not. The bible mentions Moses and Rhamses, not Shinji Ikari and Roger Smith. I bet that they show it on Good Friday.

[indent]Along those same lines (I think), the difference with The Prince of Egypt is that it is specifically about the religious story. It does not a have scattered religious reference used for some purpose or another which could be interpreted differently depending on the person (even though they may be used for a specific reason). Instead there is no question as to what the movie is about. Basically, I think it will escape controversy because it specifically is an adaptation of a religious story. Plus, I don't see how it could be offensive since unlike the references used in other series, I don't think The Prince of Egypt can be seen as commentary on any particular religion. In this instance it is a story, not a critique of it.

But wait a minute what if I'm an atheist (I'm not as I've said before) but if I was. I might not want my kids watching it.

Because it's still a good story. I'm not religious at all, but I find well-done religious stories to be quite entertaining and thought-provoking.
I just wish they'd make more *epics*, really. I like the grand scope and all that...

Ironically, they could probably show it on Adult Swim. Heck, it's more adult than half the shows on there now.

[indent]Others my feel different, but I didn't think not show showing religious stuff had to do with what the story was based on as much as the fact that a particular story could be construed on commenting on the viewer's or someone else's religious beliefs. As for specfically someone who was an atheist, it is not like the story is in support or against religion. Instead it is just a story from a religion, just like any other movie would be a from a book, legend, etc.

Think of it more along the lines of a historical drama rather than a religious one, and I don't see the problem. On those grounds, could The History Channel and The Learning Channel air it as well?

Everyone should understand the entire world won't share your religious beleifs. I don't understand how anyone could be offended by someone just for them not sharing their own religion beleifs.

Why would CN have a problem with showing a religious movie?

Well I'm just saying that their broadcast standards (especially relating to Toonami and Cartoon Cartoons) says that they can't have religous refrences.

But this is Cartoon Theatre, not Toonami or Cartoon Cartoons. The rules are probably different. Besides, if you're for some reason offended by the movie, then don't watch it. I can never understand why people have to make a big stink over something when all they have to do is lean forward and turn off the television or change the channel. I see no problem with them showing it during Cartoon Theatre. It's just a movie, and a well done one. It's not meant to offend, but to entertain. And I'm glad to see CN expanding out with their movies. I'm getting sick of seeing Scooby Doo & The Boo Brothers every other weekend.
