Kevin Smith's next project is going to be a new Black Cat ongoing at Marvel Comics.

Also, the Spidey movie adaptation is set to be written by none-other than the man himself, Stan Lee! Comments anyone?

Oh this could be a new generation of Spidey comics that I might just jump in on head first! First Ultimate Spidey, now this. And hell, whether the movie is good or not, you know Mr. Lee will do a great job. I wonder what the specifics will be about.

Black Cat? Ugh. Thankfully he's staying on Green Arrow for awhile

I'm a bit dissapointed by the lack of DC news. With Marvel currently kicking DC's ass, they could've used some MAJOR announcements in there to get mor einterest...

Hey, Dick, you're saying you're disappointed in DCs news lately and performance, and there you are with a SPIDER MAN avatar? Some support for DC! Just joshin ya! The new avatar is cool! Too bad you can't change your user name to PETER PARKER!

I tell ya, I like Black Cat. The Black Cat stories were my most favorite from the old Peter Parker series. I just loved the dynamic between her and Spider Man. Send Mary Jane on her way! The cat is back in town! RROOOOOWWWWLLLLL! I hope the artist on this book is Jim Mahfood. His drawings of her in Wizard are my favorite Black Cat drawings ever!

You must have missed Roger Stern's run on Amazing Spider-Man, who wrote the best Spidey stories since Stan and Steve...and the best portrayal of Black Cat EVER. Playful, seductive, a bit crazy...she was like Catwoman with stalker tendencies. He managed to make Spidey's relationship with Cat funny and thrilling.

Actually, I liked John Romita Jr's drawings of Black Cat in the 80s...but he doesn't draw like that anymore. Romita's style is still great, but he's a totally grittier style now, and I don't know if he can capture the supple form for Cat like he did in the 80s.

Yeah, I was getting the Roger Stern run of Amazing Spider Man at that time, too, and also loved the Black Cat stories in there. Those were the days, my friend, and I am so glad to see Marvel returining to the readable stage again.

Steve Gerber back on Howard the Duck? Wahoo! Too cool!

Yes, I'm probably the only one who cares...

What can I say? I love that pic and thought it would make a killer avatar. I'm not so sure of a Black Cat series. I can assure you it'll be $2.99 at least. As for the artist, it won't be a well know, I bet.

No you're not. I am really aniticpating this series! I would hate to think the last time we would have ever seen Howard was with those abysmal issues Marvel put out after the abysmal movie. Issue 32 was totally forgetable.

Anyone remember the movie...heh...or wants to forget?

I thought the movie was a rip off of ET and other movies like it. I felt cheated when I saw it. I am sure it will get a lavish special edition treatment when it comes out on DVD, as lame movies often get lavish treatment on DVD to try to boost sales. Supergirl, for example.

So what does everyone think of Marvel's new direction? With the new adult line, and it's upcoming creator-owned line things are looking up!

There are only two other periods in Marvel's history that I gave a rat's tail about, and that's the original run when Stan Lee was truly the MAN in charge, then when Jim Shooter was running the show (and he brought us Epic, with the able hands of Archie Goodwin at the helm, God rest his soul. That was Marvels first real attempt at an adult line and I loved it. It was Epic that got DC to think about doing things like Pirhhana Press, which led to Vertigo and Wildstorm. I believe Epic paved the way for that at DC.) The Jim Shooter run was what I basically grew up on, and comics were real fun to read with him at the helm.

Now Quesada has ushered in the third great age for Marvel comics. I am thrilled to death with what he's doing, and I am glad he decided not to revive Epic, as was previously rumored, but brought something new to the table. He is proving once again that Marvel can be a pioneer. And that's the way it should be.

The Howard the Duck movie? Gah. It took away the political/cultural aspect of Howard, which is what made him special. For those that don't know, in the comic Howard is "Trapped in a world he never made!" So, as an outsider, he gets to stand apart from and criticize our cultural and political follies. As a metaphor, Howard works pretty well. Interesting note: the comic strip "Mallard Fillmore" pretty much steals the same metaphor (with the same animal, no less) to advocate Republican values. Though I'm sure the creator would probably never admit to nicking from the comic...

That, and the movie didn't have any of the great villians from the comic. Give me Dr. Bong and the Space Turnip!

Howard the Duck should never be on DVD. And all existing copies on VHS should be destroyed. It's that bad. That and Under the Cherry Moon.

Did anyone else here get the Lobo the Duck comic from Amalgam? Probably my favorite Amalgam comic, really really funny. If you don't have it, I really recommend it.

Many of the amalgam comics were great. Spider Boy was cool, the Superman/Captain America one was cool, Dark Claw was cool...they were all cool!

I hated the second batach of Amalgams. The majority of the first run was good. My favourties were Lobo, Dark Claw, Bruce Wayne: Agent of Shield and the Man-Thing one.

Lobo the Duck was pretty dang funny... heck, the concept alone is pretty dang funny.

And I'll agree, most of the Amalgam comics were pretty good. Anyone remember Dark Claw: The Animated Series? Now THAT was a keeper...
