I just saw the Groovie "I'm a Super Girl" and it's a total ripoff of "Blitzkreig Bop (Hiy Ho Let's Go)"! It's a ripoff with the music and word-rythm I'm surprized that CN got away with that! My favorite song from any cartoon goes like this: "Beep boo boop boop beep beep bo boop boop!" No, just kidding, it's that TS one where they were singing very fast. Can anyone guess what that first one was from? (hint:it's not from CN)

It's not exactly a ripoff of Blitzkreig Bop. The band Shonen Knife is heavily influenced by punk bands like The Ramones and others. They're a Japanese punk band I guess you can say.

And by the way, I'm guessing "Beep boo boop boop beep beep bo boop boop!" is from SpongeBob SquarePants.

Shonen Knife isn't exactly a "punk" band, but they're FAR from your typical JRocker groups like L'Arc en Ciel or Malice Mizer. For one thing, SK is three girls. ^^;;;

I noticed the songs were similar as well. But I just figured Supergirl was a tribute or a parody of Blitzkeieg Bop

I think "Supergirl" is more of a tribute than a plagerism, because I listened to the two songs back to back, and there's some notable differences.

1) They have different introductions. "Blitzkreig Bop" begins with all instruments, adding in the chant. "Supergirl" has a shorter intro, starting with just guitar, then adding in drums and keyboard.
2) The two songs are in an obviously different key. "Supergirl" is about two steps higher. Since the singers are female for "Supergirl", this makes sense.
3) "Blitzkreig Bop" has no electronica-styled keyboard.
4) "Supergirl" has a a musical break in the center. The Ramones were notorious for never having guitar solos in their songs.
5) "Supergirl" doesn't have a chant in the parts where verses aren't being sung.
6) "Blitzkreig Bop" just automatically changes drum cadences, while "Supergirl" does a fast drumroll before switching to one or another.
7) "Supergirl" has no bass guitar, the only base line is provided by the keyboard or drums.
8) "Blitzkreig Bop" just kinda cuts off, while "Supergirl" has a somewhat Who-styled final long note followed by a quick chord crash.

You *can't* sue over similarities of style- that would leave every composer on earth vunerable to lawsuits, since there's no song anywhere that doesn't sound *something* like another. Copyright laws apply only to specific song content, such as note arrangements and lyrics.

Like when Queen came REALLY close to suing Vanilla Ice for taking the bass line from their duet with David Bowie, "Under Pressure" and using it for "Ice Ice Baby"?
