Apparently, it's going to involve Jack reminiscing about his childhood days.
A Must See for serious fans, obviously.

O WOW!
I just finish watching it. I liked it!
But the best part was the apperance of LONE WOLF AND CUB!!!
The infamous assasin duo, Ogami Itto was once the royal excutioner, then he was famed by a rivial clan, who killed everybody he except his little boy,Daigoro. Together they now walk the Assasin Path. And go by the name Lone Wolf and Cub.
Best Comic I've ever read, I'm surprised that Jack was inspired by them.
The episode was great but a bit sad. Then the robot came and reminded Jack his quest wasn't over yet.

This episode was FANTASTIC. And I liked the fact that most of the episode was dialogue-free.

This one is definitely on my "Catch it in the reruns" list.
(But then, almost every new SJ episode that's aired has gone on my "Catch it in the reruns" list--and I plan on watching and taping them when I get my cable turned back on!)

Catch you in the reruns, Jack...

yes, Yes, YES!
I wanted to put that up here! Darn! I was totally laid when I saw that!
I'm glad he inspired Jack in such a way!
Excellent episode, I'll have to consider taping it tommorow!

You know, I find I am rarely disappointed by episodes of SJ. The artwork is beautiful, the action is fluidly rendered, the themes are rich and the storylines are engaging. It's a show that by definition is classified as consistently good.
But every now and then, the producers never fail to ocassionally make me weep in pure religious awe at the sight I just witnessed.
Last night's episode was no exception.
I'd been waiting intently for the ep, having wanted to see more of the past that is Jack's home. I was hoping maybe for some referencing to Bertolluci's "The Last Emperor" for some really elite homages. I was also looking forward to seeing more of Jack's parents, particularly his dad, who just comes across to me as a really nice guy in general. Like this sort of Pat Morita vibe going on.
And the fangirl wanted to see him get his first kiss. Even though he was seven at the time. I was sure that we'd have quite a solid episode on our hands.
Nothing could have prepared me for the emotional rollercoaster on which I was about to embark. I should have brought Kleenex.
Now there's a fine line that distinguishes true drama from mindless angst. Personally, angst in a character's persona drives me up a wall, as angsty characters usually have a hard time dragging themselves out of their depressions to actually do anything. And they tend to have a difficulty striking the death blow due to excessive mental baggage.
What I saw wasn't angst. It was truly SAD. I saw a grown man, probably the epitome of hardness and courage, breaking down in the face of his past come back to haunt.
He actually cries. And you'll cry with him. I guarantee it.
The colors were beyond reproach in this episode, both softly subtle and bright, warm and embracing. It's a visual masterpiece, with gorgeous sweeping landscapes and incredible impact. In particular, the one setting that affected me the most was a field of tall golden grasses, not unlike a sweeping wheatfield. It was a simple image, but absolutely indicative of the pure joy of childhood.
They say each of us have our own vision of heaven. Mine is that golden field.
I can't emphasize enough how much this episode affected me, but the best I can do is urge the rest of you to see it if you haven't already.
It's like the Cure song. Just Like Heaven.

I saw most of this episode last night, gotta try and catch the whole thing sometime. Put VERY simply, it was beautiful. :) The art, the memories, the music... everything about this episode. Probably my favorite part was...
...when he gave that little girl an origami grasshopper. That was SO adorable. Of course, what happened right after that was very cute too.

It was amazing, wasn't it?! I am NOT the weepy type who cries easily. But this episode brought me to tears more than once. Every memory in every scene mecilessly hits a nerve.
I'm still trying to grasp the notion: This is a Cartoon Cartoon?? Who are they kidding! :p

So far as quality goes, 'Samurai Jack' speaks for itself.
What heading it's under is just a label.

I taped it tonight. I rarely tape anything now that isn't Batman, but I just /had/ to get that in my permanent collection. It was beautiful!
I just wish Jack could find a wife and have a baby or two. But I guess I wish that for everybody.
But I guess that would be unfair, he has a lot of emotional baggage, and that would be quite a burden. You know making sure his family is safe.

All I gotta say is that Lone Wolf & cub cameo was very cool. Did CN have to get the rights to Dark Horse comics to do that?

I was among those who almost cried while watching this episode. It was strange for me, because it almost felt like I felt everything Jack was feeling. When Jack did that lip quiver thing, I nearly broke down. I'm really glad I got to see Jack's parents once more. I also loved when he found that ball from his past. Its nice knowing that Jack can carry something from the past with him, well besides his sword.

'Time brings all things to an end.'
I don't think I have ever seen that axiom expressed quite so well as this episode did.
My salute to everybody involved in it's production.
Great episode! Beautiful animation and great plot.

I liked the parts with the grasshopper and the ball because they lended more humanity to the character. He's not just some hero with unmeasurable strength, he's a relatively young man who was forced into unpleasant circumstances, and he was once a kid like everyone else. He chased bugs, made friends, had toys, got picked on, just like any other person. That really put the show in another perspective for the people who may have only seen him as just another hero.

People are mentioning this Dark Horse comics Lone Wolf & Cub? But I thought this story is a really, really old one from Japan and they've made many movies referencing it over the years?
