View Full Version : CN isn't using all it's resources for AS...

There are several things AS could benefit with...
Think about this. What is the one show everone either loves or hates, and knows oh so well which is not on Adult Swim's action night? Just image... UNCUT Dragonball Z! Why they haven't done it I have no idea. Other things include not airing uncut Gundam Wing (the series hasn't been aired a long time). Lastly the Neo Genesis Evangelion issue. It could be aired, but maybe it shouldn't. None the less it would be nice to see. It's a total mind trip, but it's awsome. Furthermore they could make the whole thing an hour longer.
Dream AS Schedule:
11.0 Yu Yu Hakusho
11.5 UNCUT Dragonball Z
12.0 Pilot Candidate
12.5 UNCUT Gundam Wing
1.0 Outlaw Star
1.5 Tenchi Muyo
2.0 Neo Genesis Evangelion
2.5 Cowboy Beebop (it's just not AS without CB)
It would be awsome! Uncut DBZ and NGE on AS would be terrific. Just think about that a bit.
Another thought is they could add Uncut Dragonball to the humor or action night. I'd like to see it on the humor night since it's mainly what the show is all about. Heh heh... next could put Hamotaro on AS j/k... shudders...

DBZ and Gundam Wing are kid/young teen shows.
Not adult at all.
...and Evangelion is considered TOO adult by CN standards...and rumor has it that Gainax won't allow it to be edited.

Fine no Gundam Wing, but uncut DBZ would be nice. People hate that it's so chopped up, but uncut might make the show worth while to see.

Personally, I like DBZ. Although it may not be as highbrow as CB, I would compare it to the Professional wrestling of Animation. With the posability that Adults, (or pseudo-adults like myself) would enjoy it.
What is Adult media? It's whatever you make it. I would say that things like DBZ are of higher quality content than things like "Friends" or other similar Sitcoms (Insert "H" after the S).
As for the GW, that would be a bad Idea as it would likely confuse some people. (The Gundam Universes are complex enough without mixing them together)
But Hey, I'm not pushing for DBZ on ASA (I mean, what would Toonami be without DBZ) but If it happened to appear on ASA, I'd be cool with that.

Dragon Ball Z is for kids and teenagers, both in Japan and in America. If Adults like them, BIG DEAL.
Adults like The Powerpuff Girls. Should they be in ASA?

*breaks out in laughter*
DBZ on Toonami is for 6 year olds. I'm amazed more than a few people over that age even watch it more than once. Unedited DBZ is for an older audience, about 12 or 13 at most. Thats it. The reason DBZ's popularity is so high is because its a gateway anime, one that brought many into the genre. If it wasn't for that fact about the show, you wouldn't see it popular at all since at its core, its such a lousy show.
Blood and fights don't make something 'adult', or 'mature'. A perfect example of this is Outlaw Star, which as I've said before, wouldn't fit on a real Adult Swim even unedited. Its got its fights, its got its fanservice and the occasional second where you see a woman's butt, but at its core the show has a very immature plot, an extremely cliche and barely thought out ending, and no symbolism/foreshadowing/depth whatsoever, the kinda stuff that really makes something mature. DBZ is even further out. Blood and violence, the occasional nudity, but 275 of the 300 episodes are filler. The villains are wacky and goofy. The main characters are goofy and cliche. The dub sounds like one done for a saturday morning kid's show. That prevents the show from ever rising above a 12/13 level regardless of content. Anyone can throw in some blood and call a show 'adult'. What it really takes for something to be adult is maturity. The only shows on your dream lineup that are remotely mature are the last 2. Everything else shouldn't even be brought up in a conversation about a block thats labelled 'Adult Swim'.
Fine no Gundam Wing, but uncut DBZ would be nice. People hate that it's so chopped up, but uncut might make the show worth while to see.
You've got another thing coming if you think the edits are what make people like myself hate DBZ.
What is Adult media? It's whatever you make it. I would say that things like DBZ are of higher quality content than things like "Friends" or other similar Sitcoms (Insert "H" after the S).
Its not whatever you make it. If that was the case we'd have 7 year old fans coming here and saying how adult they were because they think 'Bejita' and 'Fureeza' are so ubber cool. I agree that most sitcoms, heck, pretty much everything except Seinfeld, have their share of immaturity and never have ranked high on my list, but that doesn't make something thats better than them automatically more adult than them.
Regardless, we all know that as soon as DB/Z broke its way into the block, it would only be a matter of time before completely destroying it, like what happened with Toonami.

Volince can make a show get a mature rating. I mean come on would want your kid (if you had one )to watch a show where there's volince in just about every sene. Yes content such subject does matter. But when volince is involed such as showing a whole lot of blood abd body parts flying every where (even without blood) I think that shouldn't be shown to kids and should be amied at an older age group.

Violence may give it a 'mature' rating, but it doesn't make it 'mature', or especially 'adult'. If that was the case DBZ would probably be ranked the most mature show of all those played on the channel, even more than Cowboy Bebop.

It saddens me to think that many people believe that in order to have maturity you must stop finding simple things like DBZ amusing.
Though many people deny it, it does have good qualities, and I find it entertaining to watch. Will I find a deper meaning in DBZ? Well, It depends on what your looking for, so I won't say no.
Some people reach adulthood an never look back ("Now that I'm grown up, It's time for anything not what I personally consider to be adult to be burned" mentality.) Well, Here I am at 22. A Peudo-Adult, and If I can retain my enjoyment of as wide a range of things as possible, I believe that I will enjoy my live more.
Does enjoying the simple things damage my intelligence? Lets see, I am a Honors Student about to graduate with two degrees at the same time, My LSAT score allowed me to have my pick of Law schools with acompanying scholarships. I can discuss nearly everything from Halsey's incompetence at the second battle of samar to the Selective incorporation of the 4th ammendment, to the meaning behind Shakespeare's Henry V St. Crispen's day speech.
So It's safe to say that DBZ hasn't "Rotted my mind" I also Enjoy the Three stooges and Abbott and Costello. Yes, I enjoy the simple things, and I Enjoy DBZ, so I would not mind if DBZ were on Adult swim. http://community.sierra.com/Images/emoticons/crazy.gif
My appologies If I'm ranting, but I just don't understand why some people don't enjoy DBZ.

When did this Happen? I seem to recall Toonami being fun to watch yesterday...
Well, I do grant that this is all my personal opinion. so take it as you will. Humerous or otherwise.
DBZ is a children's show. It is to the point that a class uses Spanish DBZ to teach 9 year olds Spanish forms.

Unlike the "you shut up" posts http://community.sierra.com/Images/emoticons/noflame.gif , this is auctually a legitimate reason why DBZ shouldn't be on adult swim which I can accept.
If FUNi won't let it happen, It's not going to happen, and that's the end of story. http://community.sierra.com/Images/emoticons/shrug.gif

Thank you, Matt! Thank you thank you, THANK YOU!!! I agree. Now don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't LIKE DBZ, but cut or Un-cut, it's NOT ASA material.

Uncut Dbz wouldn't be a good thing I agree with matt that william street would turn it down, why you ask, well of course this is just what I think but, Some kid who likes Dbz hears thats its going to be uncut he tells all his 8 year old friends to watch it the parents find them watching, they get pissed at CN for showing a show thats meant for kids uncut...and all it is is trouble with a capital T and that rhymes with D and that stands for DBZ.
Sorry about singing showtones its just a habbit....I'M NOT GAY...I'M NOT, QUICK LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT....
and thats my 2 cents

Do you really think WS is going to transfer the show that is one of the main reasons Toonami survived and became so popular away from Toonami?
ZorBrak
04-24-2002, 05:58 PM
First off, I want to remind everyone that the rules are as follows, DBZ is not to be discussed on the Adult Swim Board and all posts speaking of it are to be closed or deleted. DBZ is a toonami show and is not on Adult Swim nor does it need to be, it is aired enough and it would be a waste to air this show on the only chance CN gets to show more mature content.
But I would like to say some thing to those who feel like labeling DBZ and it's fans as kiddie LAY OFF. It is for anyone who wants to watch it, I do not think it belongs on adult swim but I don't want everyone in here taking an attitude like someone is inferior because they like it, we should be more mature than that, if anything here is for kids it's bickering.

Thankyou for your replies. I see how it would and wouldn't work out. DBZ Uncut is indeed not "adult" TV, but it would be interesting to see none the less. In truth, that makes most of AS' action line-up unfit. YYH doesn't seem very adult (though it's closer than some), Tenchi (though uncut is for a very mature audience) doesn't seem "adultish", as someone else stated neither is Outlaw Star (for the most part), and Pilot Candidate we wont talk about. CB is just about the only truely adult show on AS, and if they add NGE to that someday that would make too, but that's not much "adult" entertainment. However I do believe the humor night is mostly "adult" entertainment. So CN isn't doing bad. They could just do better, but it's great having AS either way.

Well you don't elevate Adult Swim to what it should be by taking another step backwards. Tenchi Muyo's being removed from the block in a little over a month, and one by one all the shows edited for 7 year olds will. Then, hopefully, we can finally call this block 'adult'.

Absolutely nothing. It's an unresolvable issue. As Woody Allen says, "The meaning of life is that nobody knows the meaning of life." Everybody has their own definition. We argue it till the cows come home, but it's pretty pointless really.

Damn Straight. I too believe it doesn't belong on "Adult Swim", but that doesn't mean that people who aren't children should "grow up". That statement is coming from people who freely admit that they watch "Invader Zim, "Yu Yu Hakusho", and "Freakazoid". (I am a big fan of all three myself.) Those shows are made for kids too. Does that mean you should grow up too? Please don't close this post. I just had to get that off my chest.
...And now, I return you to the regularly scheduled main point:
This is how I came up with my schedule:
1) Both "Yu Yu Hakusho" and "Mobile Suit Gundam" are established shows with a boatload of episodes (112 and 52, respectively) and hordes of fans.
2) There are heavy rumors floating around that "Inu Yasha" and an uncut version of "Outlaw Star" are coming to AS in the near future. These rumors also state that "Z Gundam", although untranslated as of now is also headed to the block.
3) The only reason they showed "Tenchi Muyo" and only "Tenchi Muyo" on AS is to establish the show on the block. All of the other Tenchi-related things ("Pretty Sammy", "Tenchi Muyo: The GXP", the 3rd OAV) will end up in AS and only AS.
I know that right now there are people pissed at me and my "Rock solid reasoning", so I shall yield the floor and open the topic for debate.

Initial D wasn't confirmed for Cartoon Network, nor was it ever announced that the company would be attempting to get it ON Cartoon Network, for that matter.
Bandai hasn't chosen to pick up Z Gundam yet, only because they're pushing G-Gundam from 2002-2003. Z Gundam and ZZ Gundam will likely be the advertising push of 2003-2004.

when did they say that? just wondering. You're right. All the new Tenchi is for TOONAMI. The only shows that I could possibly see moving permanently from Toonami to Adult Swim Action are Universal Century Gundam, Outlaw Star, and Big O. Tenchi was nothing but filler, and it's still a Toonami show.

I really think that Outlaw Star and Tecnhi Muyo are Toonami Shows, and thus should have stayed on Toonami. In fact, I think that even Pilot Candidate should have been on Toonami. I mean, whatever organization slaped the TV-Y7 labels on them felt them good for seven year olds, then CN slapped a warning on it. The only shows that actually deverve that warning are Cowboy Bebop and perhaps YYH. If they are going to say "Adults only," for Gods sake put on some shows that are for adults!
Sorry for ranting. I know that makes no sense whatsoever...
