I take that challenge! Here’s my story for SilverKnight’s challenge…it’s 471 words…not bad, eh? Hopefully it’s funny too!

CARDBOARD CUT-OUTS
~<>~

I hate attention. As a rule I beg away from it- I mean who wants to be gawked and pointed at? Not me that's for sure. But right now- I’d like this attention.

And it's not only me.

Dick, in Nightwing garb, is tightening his fists trying to hold himself back from making a scene.

Barbara, also in costume, is looking at the group of clustering females with distaste. Her arms are crossed over her chest and her head has a tilt to it that clearly says 'get a life'.

And Batman, is perched across the street watching us sulk. We're standing here, not three feet away from a mob of girls, being completely ignored.

Barb hates it, Dick hates it, and I know I hate it.

Bruce is loving it and so, we hate him too.

Batman taps his ear and we all instantly listen for the word. "How are you doing?"

Dick answers first. "How can I be second rate to a bunch of cardboard?"

We all sigh while Batman lessen his grin a bit. It's true, how can any of us?

But we are.

Go figure that a bunch of N*Sync cardboard cutouts would attract so much attention.

A loud squeal breaks the night and we ready for action. "It's HIM!!!" We all fear the worst- The Joker, Two-Face, Killer Croc…

The girl who screamed suddenly pile-drives the statue of one of the members, taking a couple of girls down with her.

Barb clicks her teeth in disgust, while Dick and I sigh VERY loudly. That should be us…not cardboard.

Four more girls tackle the other standing statues while squealing like a bunch of baby pigs.

It’s truly lovely.

Not.

Batgirl watches and slowly becomes more alert. We observe as girls pull the cardboard singers apart- rather savagely. A stray elbow knocks one of the teenyboppers in the head.

All hell breaks out after that.

It has to be the ultimate catfight I've EVER seen. Hair being pulled, eyes being gouged- jeez, it's brutal! Sadly, we have to break it up and do our duty.

The three of us fly into battle and, after dodging lots of sharp nails, we get everyone subdued. The girls leave- not wanting to bother with the police.

Then it's back to the three of us and we look down at the now mutilated bodies of N*Sync. Wow, they did quite a number. Maybe I really don't want that type of attention.

Batman's growl echoes in our ears. "Time to go bye, bye, bye."

All three of us groan and Dick smacks his forehead. "Just stick to crime fighting and leave the humor to us."

"Okay,” He answers and then adds, “this I promise you."

Another round of groans as we rappel out the street. It's going to be a LONG night.

Well, Batman and N*Sync aren’t mine, btw.

Yeah, I liked it too. I just wanted to wait until the contest was over to say it. But since it looks like no one else is gonna do it... :) Good story, Susie.

That was great, Susie! Who says Batman has no sense of humor...it's just not a very good one! :D I almost fell out of my chair LOL! Bravo!

M'ral (thinks it's time to go bye bye bye)

M'Ral- Glad you found it to be funny. I do believe Batman has some humor it's just hidden beneath the whole 'Grim and grimer' exterior. Thanks again!!
