All right! Shall we start a chorus of Happy Birthday, or will that cause you to recoil in horror like Yzma from the Emperor's New Groove?

Who here knows how to make a gookie? I don't , but it would make a good pun for someone to use at the birthday party. Oh, and thanks for giving me something to post on over here. But at least I'll have an excuse for not posting form Wednesday to Monday because I'm off on another Jersey vacation.

Well...Mother warned ye, lassie. :p

I do my own variation of a gookie by grabbing the sides of my mouth with all eight fingers and pulling my lips out to expose all my teeth. It annoys/disgusts my mother to no end....http://www.contrabandent.com/pez/cwm/3dlil/disturbed.gif

Congrats on 30 years, Craig. Your sharp wit and presence here at the TZ is a blessing to all of us!

Gookie was one of the first people to actually respond to my posts when I was new at the old board.

Thanks for keeping us giggling, and may the Lord bless you and keep you!

(end, sappy post... *sniffle*)
--and if any one can teach me to make a Gookie and get my eyes to spin, I'd be forever grateful.
---I dunno if I've ever mentioned it, but one day I was bored and wrote out tabs for the "Make a Gookie" song. Any guitar players here want them?

I may be able to teach you how to may a Gookie. Getting out of it is the problem...

Well, what I do is I puff up my cheeks with air, then I try to vary the amount of air in various places in my mouth. Also I need to pucker while I'm doing that; 'tain't easy. And I'm working on being able to make my eyeballs spin @ the time, too; maybe shifting my gaze will suffice.

Btw Gookie, while you were out, something came up re. religion. I felt a bit uncomfortable & Craig said you & Romey'ld've come to my defense if y'all'd been here; which I appreciate. And anyone who puts in endless hours to find out inconsequential trivia is a guy after my own heart. Happy birthday

I think Gookie was leaving for Comic-Con this morning...unfortunately, he didn't get to post it here, because of all the down-time.

Anyhow, a belated happy birthday (all the more belated if you don't read it 'til you get back), and have a great trip!

And Robert, too! Have a great time in Jersey!

You all know the story of the Gookie, right? Right?

Awww, you don't? Well, Useless Fact time!

From Harpo Marx's autobiography, Harpo Speaks!, 1961:

The man who first inspired me to become an actor was a guy called Gookie. Gookie had nothing to do with the theatre. He rolled cigars in the window of a cigar store on Lexington Avenue
[...]
Gookie worked at a low table, facing the Avenue through the window.
[...]
Gookie was funny enough to look at when he wasn't working, but when he got up to full speed rolling cigars he was something to see. It was a marvel how fast his stubby fingers could move. And when he got going good he was completely lost in his work, so absorbed that he had no idea what a comic face he was making. His tongue lolled out in a fat loll, his cheeks puffed out, and his eyes popped out and crossed themselves.
I used to stand there imitating Gookie's look fifteen, twenty minutes at a time, using the window glass as a mirror. He was too hypnotized by his own work to notice me. Then one day I decided I had him down perfect--tongue, cheeks, eyes, the whole bit.
I rapped on the window. When he looked up I yelled, "Gookie! Gookie!" and made the face. It must have been pretty good because he got sore as hell and began shaking his fist and cursing at me. I threw him the face again. I stuck my thumbs in my years and waggled my fingers, and this really got him. Gookie barreled out of the store and chased me down the Avenue.
[...]

He goes on to describe how he would put on a regular show outside the window, and it made him a sort of celebrity in the neighborhood. But I don't feel like typing anymore.

But he did use the face regularly in their films. What he does is...well, it's pretty indescribable. You'd know it if you saw it.

Funny face!
