This is my first post here. I really wanted to say what I think about the series Animaniacs and see what you people think.

Well, I remember watching Animaniacs when I was in first grade. Recently, I rediscovered the show on CN and realized the quality of the music and comedy. Wow.

I realized then that the series had ended a long time ago. So I went over to the Startoons website and E-mailed Jon McClenahan. I asked why the show was canceled and if it would make a comeback sometime. He responded with this

"The reason it ended (that was given to me) was that WB had produced 200 episodes and that there was no financial advantage in producing more, in that 200 episodes made a very marketable package for syndication. Sad to say, but financial reasons are what lie behind most big corporate decisions. "

"To my knowledge, there are no plans to make any more Animaniacs cartoons. I can't imagine that they wouldn't come back some time, but not in the foreseeable future. "

Canceling a show because it hits 200 episodes?

What do you think of the show? Ending the show because of 200 episodes?

One: I thought there were only 99 episodes!

Two: What the heck am I doing up at 1 am?!

Oh, and hi LD1984! Welcome to the Toonzone boards! Though I'm guessing you already got an official welcome.

What do you think of the show? Ending the show because of 200 episodes? Well it is arround 100 eps not including remixing of shorts. And WB could make money producing more eps hell there were compaines tring to pay WB to do so to get their products placed in it hell rich fans have offered to pay for the production of the eps them selfs. But WB remains stubborn and sticks by its desison to not make any more A! eps.

Hi, there! Always good to see another A! fan around here. =)

As the others have pointed out, there were only 99 episodes...the reason I'd heard for the cancellation was that WB felt too much of the money was going to Spielberg / Amblin, and they felt their profit margin wasn't big enough to justify making another season. Whatever the exact reason, money was doubtlessly involved. But that's the TV industry for ya.

It was definitely a tremendously well-done series, though. Guess it can't hurt to try to start up some sort of actual discussion... What are your favorite episodes / shorts that you've seen? Who are your favorite characters? What references did you particularly appreciate?

You first saw "Animaniacs" back in first grade? Gee, here I was thinking of how I first saw it (in its first season in 1993-94) back in freshman year of college (with wondering if, when I first heard of the show after seeing its picture in the paper, if it'd be "any good"/"be as good as Tiny Toons"/actually last on the air given how weird that Yakko/Wakko characters look and are named :-) I presume from your user name you're only 16 or 17 years old?

Wow. Friendly people here.

Yeah, I'm 16 years old. I really like Nighty Night Toon (the third short in the first episode). A parody of Goodnight Moon (to my knowledge) had never been done before that. It was hillarious. Lucky for me, I saw it last week on Cartoon Network.

After watching Wakko's Wish last night, I think I may be inspired to do some 3d work of Yakko, Wakko and Dot. I'm pretty smart for my age.

Thats my head (a little stretched out). I think If I can model my head, I can definately model the Warner Bros. (and the Warner Sister). Would you like to see them done?

Aye; that's this website's primary asset.

The secondary one being the collective knowledge of the members- you can get almost any question pertaining to WB, animation, profound thought, or useless fact, answered by *somebody* here (not always with guaranteed accuracy, but you'll get an answer.)

Welcome aboard!

Craig Marinaro
07-15-2001, 02:15 PM
not always with guaranteed accuracy

Or coherency. But, darnit, you'll get an answer, but good!

I'm not much older than you...I'm 17-an'-a-half, and the show premiered when I was in 4th grade. I'm not particularly more intelligent or talented than most people but my age...but I'm different, anyhow, which is enough to make me happy. ;)

But thankfully, age, upbringing, religion, race, political leanings, etc., aren't all that important here. Most everyone's quite open-minded. It's a very pleasant atmosphere, once you get into the swing of things.

And feel free to share whatever talents you've got. People here are very appreciative of other posters' creative expression. That headshot is awesome!

Egad, Hello, and Welcome! :)

Great to see another A! fan. I'm also quite a bit of a P&TB fan, as you may have guessed...or, wait...maybe you haven't guessed...or maybe someone already told you...Oh, now I remember, It was the second thing I just said, NARF!

What LD1984 said...

Zounds! By all means, go for it! I've been doing some 3D work about a particular place that started out in Animaniacs myself.

I'm still working on the mouth. Not too bad for an hour work.

Oh yeah. Let me briefly describe the process.
First you make the mesh. The Yakko face is the mesh. The mesh doesn't have any really specific details until you texture (or skin) it. He won't have eyes or little details until I get to that point. Then it's done. I'm thinking of exporting him into Quake III Arena just for fun.

I think they should make an animaniacs next Generation cartoon!
Like with Yakko Wakko and Dot and then three younger warners like maybe to girls and a boy this time! the story behind it: The creators made three new characters and they joined the original three and now they're the warner 6!!!

Just a thought peeps never know.... it could happen!:D

If Warners could put Pinky and the Brain in a house with Elmyra, your idea is almost insanely wrong enough to work.

I don't think it'd be fair to say the A!'s quality declined enough for it to get cancelled, but I do think the last batches weren't as good as the first.

As for Jon McClenahen, he's a great guy, ain't he? Turns out he's a mutual friend of my family's all this time and I didn't know it! So I got to visit Startoons twice, but never met Jon in person. What a drag!

--they sort of did that in the comics...except it was the present-day Warners who were the Next Generation, and they met up with the old-school B&W Warners. Twisted.
On A! children--Brain and Pinky have a bouncing baby boy clone...Slappy is an erstatz mother to Skippy and a little blue bird...Buttons is presumably capable of fathering a litter (unless repeated mishaps from rescuing Mindy have rendered him spayed)...Pesto's sister Sasha laid an egg at some point (though it's mentioned in another ep that she and Squit are dating--is he the proud papa?)...and Rita and Runt--well, so far they're just friends, but with a little catnip in her that could change real quick.
Animaniacs debuted on my 13th birthday--Sep 13, 1993, if I recall correctly. Best present I ever got....

welcome to the boards. yes the animaniacs was a great show with some sofisticated humor that mos children would not catch the punch line. this also goes for freakizoid and some of the earlier episodes of pinky and the brain when the were still shown on animaniacs. i love these shows and i wish the would come on more.

also there is some more safisticated(not as much safisticated just stuff from the 80's that younger children wouldnt get) on some of the cartoon cartoons on cn, im glad the writing is better and gives me more things to laugh at then the garbage shown on most other stations. ramble ramble blah bleh....sorry.

Welcome, LD1984! While we're giving our A! testimonies, I thot I'd add mine. I didn't really pay any attention to the KWB stuff when I should've. It'd long since been drilled into me that cartoons were only for children. A! debuted when I was 20; you do the math. Anyway, I'd read about the popularity Ren & Stimpy had among the college crowd, in which I was included. I was thinking why they didn't grow up. Around that time we finally got CN around here. After a period of time, for no particular reason, I thought I'd catalogue the CartoonCartoons; don't ask me why. Now that I was watching CN, I was seeing those ads for A! Back in February '99, we finally got a computer with internet access in this house. Around that time, I decided to give A! a chance. And from there there was no turning back. I discovered TTA, LTs (rediscovery in that case), RoRos, F!, P&tB, H!, etc., in that order. I'm now a hard-core Warner fan, loyalist, & historian; in fact, until he made his presence known, I thot I was the WBArchivist, unofficially of course. Nothing against the other studios, in fact I'm quite the historian there too, but I decided to cast my lot with the Warners. Not necessarily the people running the place, but the stuff of which the Golden & Silver Ages were made. Through events related in another story --- which I haven't necessarily told yet --- I found this place & to this day I enjoy fellowship with other Warners fans. I like it here, & I think you will too.

A couple other things. Danielle, too late. It's already out there & it's just a matter of time until someone makes that fanfic a reality. The ng in days of old, & the Watertower & Warner Cafe currently, have been hotbeds of speculation re. other Warners. Like I said in one of my first posts on the old boards, there have been so many rumors of affairs, marriages, & children legitimate & otherwise of Yakko & Wakko --- Aggie, Federica, Okkay, Teleia, WakkAnne,... Then there's that child Dot was supposed to've had for about half a verse in a certain variation of the A! theme. And on & on. As to mouse offspring, let's see what Romey has to say. Me, I still think Pinky & Phar are still an item. Belchie, I asked the same question re. Sasha's egg on the ng once; didn't get an answer. Maybe she was sitting for someone else & passed the buck to Pesto, I dunno. It'd seem to me that it should've been Squit sitting if he was dating Sasha; maybe he made himself scarce. Btw dyn in that ep Kiki was beating up Squit while Sasha was beating up Pesto? And Skippy was discovering girls @ the end of WW. As to the rest, well, anyone remember You Are What You See? It has some fandom stuff in it, but nothing really obscene, unless it'd be in your minds.

It's a well known fact that Wakko was just a victim of the mass-media. As for Yakko, I think he has his hands full with Toonz. I was visiting the family recently, and can honestly say the kid has quite a bite... ::ouch::

As to mouse offspring, let's see what Romey has to say.
Sorry to disappoint ya'll, but there's no plans for mouse offspring in the forseeable future... Not that it hasn't ever been considered, but there's too darn much other writing to catch up on in that continuum. Sooo many clandestine threads to carefully weave together. Even then, I wouldn't recommend that anyone hold their breath.

Well, I am rather curious about Sasha's egg, if it's hers...Pesto as a stepdaddy? We'll have to wait and see if the kid's born with huge buck teeth to figure out its parentage. I wonder why no one's ever thought of giving Buttons a steady girl? The average male dog fathers some 600 children in his lifetime....

I was toying with the idea of Brain and Billie learning that they're half-siblings along the lines of Luke and Leia in Star Wars...which explains why they couldn't be lovers and why both of them possessed latent hyperintelligence genes...and why Pinky, being from a rather stagnant end of the gene pool, didn't (well, you saw his parents, folks--nut doesn't fall far, and all that) .

Well, as I recall, Sasha's egg did hatch @ the end of that toon; I'll have to look @ it again to see exactly who or what it looked like. Wait, no it didn't, ohhhh! I'll have to look again anyway just to know one way or 'tother.

In YAWYS, Buttons suddenly turned into a voice & character match for that other dog in Up a Tree; whereupon he went out trolling for female-dogs-the-term-for-which-while-technically-correct-some-would-be-offended-at; he even talkled Runt into going with him, which Rita didn't like @ all (ask her about Rachel sometime, if you have a death wish).

As to the mice --- & this might cause Romey to go apoplectic --- doesn't Billie look more like Pinky than she does the Brain? As you'll recall she wasn't too bright herself originally. Otoh, if we're gonna bring the gene splicer or whatever into this, what were P&B's mental capacities originally? I know I'm asking for it from Romey, but Billie might well've been the sister Pinky remembered but who is now supplanted by that empty spool of thread. Pinky & the folks wouldn't even've noticed when she was taken & had assumed the spool was her since.

I'm not much one for Next-Gen fanfics either, but Fede has a way of making things work. The results are always entertaining. Ya'll haven't even seen the half of it. Seriously. But anyway, I never said Pinky & Billie wouldn't have kids... I just said not to expect to see a fanfic from me where they do. I simply consider it something that will continually remain "in the future". Thus, what happens afterward will remain known only to myself. Besides, the three mouse dynamic is just so fun to work with, why mess with a good thing?

I'm one to think that the situation is more like this: Brain looks so different from the average lab mouse that one would only expect Pinky & Billie to more like each other in comparison. Not to mention that mice who look alike aren't exactly that uncommon? But yes, I have pondered this possibility, and I've dismissed it. I think if there was any relation, Billie would have figured it out. All in all, there's nothing more you can do than speculate.

Any other debate of Pinky & Billie is going to wait. I have reasons for my views, I've given these reasons multiple times, and yet you still completely misunderstand where I'm coming from. One of these days we'll have a one-on-one debate, but I've got other priorities. And now I'm probably sounding really annoyed and ticked off, but that's more because I'm groggy from sleeping a total of six hours this entire week. So why the heck am I replying? Because someone mentioned Billie, and darnit, as the President of the Billie Fan-Club, I'm entitled to say something! Umm... I think that's my cue to go to bed. No offense, I'm just in an odd mood.

Well, there's a lot to which to respond, so until I get the hang of slipping my responses in after the appropriate section without it being confused for the original I'll have to put all my responses here in one place. Did any of that make sense? I'd like to say in advance that I probably don't know what I'm talking about on any of this, & I make these statements in my ignorance. Otoh, the only way to learn is to ask questions, so I'll just have to keep on asking. All I want to know is everything.

As to next-gen fics, I think I'd be in favor of them. I'd @ least like to see what's there. I agree with you about Federica's fics, what I've seen of them. I remember the storyboard plans she & Aggie came up with about the time they met Yakko & Wakko. I've been there before, & I will be there again. But it'll have to wait as I have a ton of reviews to climb out from under first. I'm not really in any hurry for there to be mouse offspring either, but who knows, one of these years? Besides, you should see some of the things that've been done with next-gen Road Rovers fanfic. And in TTA too, by my count Buster & Babs have had @ least 9 children in the history of TTAFF, for one of which Colin was responsible (Baxter). Alright, 4 of them were Mortimer & other younger siblings in disguise, but still...

As to asking for it, I'm glad I'm not Craig right now. Otoh what can you do; he's already dead. It's a pity you can't @ least make a down payment; after all, he'll be practically next door to where you are. It's not like you're in Naples er sum junk; Venice is practically next door. But listen to the know-it-all talk, you'd think I knew these guys travel schedules. It would seem that either Italy would be on Craig's way there, or Switzerland would be on Romey's way back, but what do I know? All I can be reasonably certain of is, Craig, be afraid.

From that pic to which you linked, I get a vibe that Romey Warner is Federica's, but not by Yakko? Hey, you tell me what this means:
Fede: How will I explain him?
Yakko: Aaaaar... I think u got a problem.
Well, @ least I managed to find out something, & I won't say what 'cause I just might be in enough hot water with you. And while I'm talking about pics, I've managed to translate most of the titles with an admittedly inadequate Italian-English dictionary & some mentalating.
Wakko: So for how long would you say we shouldn't allow them to play cowboys & indians?
Fede: Aggie!! Yakko & I had a date tonight!!!
Yakko: Relax, this situation has us all tied up, don't you think?
Fede: SHUT UP!!!
Dot: "Please babysit the good, cute adorable" Devils, every one of them...

As to the mice, I acknowledge that I haven't yet read your reasons for your views in that area, but then I haven't read all of the toonzone archives yet. If someone could cite a specific archive, thread, day, I'd be ever so grateful. So far, I remember one time you & Craig were going back & forth & off the side of the board. But you must admit that going by looks, Brain is even less likely to be related to Billie than Pinky is. And I'm still waiting for the fic that disposes of the Pinky-Phar relationship, not to mention a theory as to why Phar was in Wakko's Wish & Billie wasn't. This is nothing against Billie, I assure you; as I said, I just don't know certain things & I'm asking. Debate? As if I knew enough about any of this to debate; I just got interested in the whoe thing 2 years ago. Maybe I have more cause for concern that Craig. Well, hopefully you won't be too hard on me. Cya here when you get back, Romey, & congratulations btw.

...those little chick peeps? Bleh....all sugar, nothing else....

....anyway, I dunno about Next Generation fic. It's been done, but there's always room for improvement. I'm sure it can be pulled off, it's just a matter of not making the future too sappy or miserable. Still, as for all those illegimate kids....anything can happen with the Warners, I guess.
