Who's most popular, well known animated character in world?,why

A new question: Of all animated characters, who is most well known through out the entire world...Why? My guess, is Wiley Coyote. WB and Turner marketed the Warner toons everywhere. Wiley's goal and story, are so simple, and memorable. He is hungry, and wants to eat...Those toons, were seen in every continent, and sold to TV stations, for lesser prices, then Disney could immagine. Other possiblilities, Sylvester and Tweety, Bugs, maybe Popeye, Batman ,Simpsons, but the satirical nature of the Simpsons, even though it is so popular, is uniquely American, while, the simplicity of the Road Runner chase, make those toons universal...Mickey Mouse and his brotheren, were closely held and controlled by Disney, as proven by the fact that he, Eisner, would not allow Mickey put on a postage stamp...WB eagerly agreed to allow Bugs to appear for free. I'd like to hear from others on this. Maybe Simba from the Lion King, or someone, or some thing else, thanks for reading this. Stuart

My guess would be Bugs Bunny. He represents WB in so many ways, I've seen him on things that have NOTHING to do with cartoons. His image is probably associated with the WB logo as much as Spider Man's image came to be associated with Marvel's.

Though I long to say Garfield, I'd have to say that Bugs Bunney is more well known. He's probably more of a cultural icon anyway.

I still think Mickey Mouse, despite his bigtime hiatus, is an icon that is more easily recognized than any other. He's still used as an marketing gimmick in foreign countries, methinks, but I'm not sure. Gotta love those Mickey ears :p

If this discussion were 5 years ago, or a little longer, I think you would be correct, Mickey certainly made a very strong impact, I atttended a Disney stock holder's meeting, and Eisner stated that Mickey toys were popular in China, and I honestly do not know if Bugs, and my favorite Wiley are popular in China. or India. .It would be interesting to hear from members from Asia, and hear thier points of view as to whose impact is greatest...Although now, that Jackie Chan is a toon, they might say him...So if you have contacts, or have lived there, please let us know how you see it...Also, I once read that Mario, from Intendo fame, was more popular than Mickey, or Bugs.. I guess my questions involves everybody in the world, not just those who play video games and other types. thanks . Stuart
