From imdb.com again....gotta stop cutting and pasting my posts.

Turner Broadcasting's Cartoon Network has removed 12 cartoons from a Bugs Bunny Marathon set for next month because they include racial and ethnic stereotypes, the Wall Street Journal reported today (Friday). The newspaper said that although the 12 cartoons were originally going to be accompanied by prominent disclaimers ("Cartoon Network does not endorse the use of racial slurs. These vintage cartoons are presented as representative of the time in which they were created and are presented for their historical value."), executives of the network decided to yank them after receiving messages from executives of corporate sibling Warner Bros. expressing their displeasure. Warner's, the newspaper said, "stopped short of a veto."

Yep, CN has to pull the cartoons from the marathon, breaking their "all Bugs Bunny cartoons" promise, and shattering the hopes of people like me, who have looked foreward to this for months. Termite terrace has several related discussions and a list of the pulled cartoons.

Aw, gee. 'Seems to me that disclaimer, combined with a later viewing-time, should have been adequate.

*Never* showing these kinds of cartoons is uncomfortably similar to white-washing; it's like somebody is trying to pretend they were never made.

Actually, that should read: "The following contains mature subject matter and potentially offensive racial and ethnic slurs and is not suitable for overly sensitive viewers who can't accept the fact such works were ever created."

I'm really not too surprised this issue came up with these select cartoons being in the marathon.

An article in the Wall Street Journal (this CN thing actually made the front page) says that the 12 cartoons in question might be shown at a later date as a part of a special marathon.
