So, are you trying to say that you don't like Spongebob? :D

Actually, I have never seen an episode of Spongebob. But is there anyone up for a series involving Lucky Bob?

Actually I do watch Spongebob and enjoy it. You keep on repeating about how badly it sucks - a) that's a matter of opinion and b) it's Nick, they would only invest in more Rugrats stuff. Seriously though the reason Spongebob is so popular is because he's going through a lot of situations that we can either relate to or are going through - like getting his license or holding a job, owning a house, etc - and every situation gets crazy eventually. It's also a nice break from the usual cartoons that frequent Nick - ie Rugrats and Wild Thornberry's stuff. Don't worry though the yellow Sponge will be gone after this season (at least no new episodes will be made) and Nick will once again go back to only having Hey Arnold!, IMO. They had the chance to pick up a great show called "Constant Payne" and refused - deciding upon a new Rugrats spin-off show. That's what Nick's all about and Spongebob seemed to push those boundaries a little bit - relating to a wider audience than 8 and under.

I really was of the same opinion as you, I couldn't really stomache the show, I thought the humor was stupid, all the gags contrived and the concept utterly retarded, I mean how can you sweat when you're under water to begin with?

UNTIL...... My roommate said he loved it. I was like Why? But I was forced to watch it and somehow I ended up loving the show! It's so frigging funny, I mean the water gags alone are endless, but it's absurdist high brow humor at it's best. Each character has endering quirks, the dialogue is great, it's really hilarious.

I don't know where the change came in, but I really do love this show, and suggest you give it a shot. If you get a chance, I mean all the eps are good, the ones with Plankton are even moreso. I don't know if I was just not paying attention to the show when I hated it, missing all the humor, but I can't figure out why I didn't like it.

Spongebob = goodness.

Screw you Newbie...SPONGEBOB RULES!!
AHH HAHAHHHHHHAAAAAAA

...okay, I'm just kidding. Personally, I love Spongebob, but I can certainly understand there are others out there who don't like it. To each his own I guess.

So does this mean you aren't going to go see the Spongebob movie when it comes out?

SpongeBob goes either way for me. Here's a break down of the characters:

SpongeBob - Alright. He can get a little a annoying sometimes.
Sandy - Same as above.
Mr. Crabs - Same as above.
Gary - Funny concept.
Plankton - Also a funny concept.
Squidwerd - Sometimes annoying, but usually funny.
Mermiad Man and Barnicle Boy - Absolutely hilarious. A perfect parody of both Aquaman and the campy Batman show from the 60's. They should have their own show. (Heck, if they can do those "Crimson Chin and Cleft the Boy Chin Wonder" shorts...)
Patrick - He sucks! I hope that there is an episode where gets disected in some kids science class! No redeeming value whatsoever.

That's what I feel about SpongeBob SquarePants.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I'm being disected. I hate pointy objects!

Seriously, I really love this show. It's the jokes that keep me watching it. There are some episodes where you think one thing is going to happen when all of a sudden it makes a 180 spin (Doing Time). I don't hate any of the characters. This show needs them to make everything come together.

I have seen a few episodes a while ago. I thought it was weird, and all the characters were annoying. I think Wild Thornberrys and Rugrats are better. Sorry to say it, but I don't like "Spongebob Squarepants".

You, sir, are the kind of evil that they talk about in horror films. Just kidding. But seriously, those shows stink too. At least you didn't say that you liked "Rocket Power"...

OMG there are people who like K-C shows better than Spongebob. May I quote from Mermaidman "EVIL EVIL EVIL" :D .

I love Invader Zim as much as Spongebob. By the way what is it that you hate about Spongebob, and please don't say because it's stupid.

I think Spongebob is amusing enough. From the first ep I was cracking up, it's just a humorous show. My Drum Major buddy just loves Spongebob, he even has a whistle neck-thingy that has Spongebob all over it, and he had me make up a Spongebob covered notebook for our field show sets. I enjoyed Rugrats at first, and watch it from time to time, but it's really been annoying me lately, I just don't see the fun in it anymore. Invader Zim was.....interesting to say the least. The humour was a bit raw, even disgusting. But that's just me. There were times when I laughed, but all in all, I'd probably watch something else.

Barb^-^

BTW: Gary rules! It's all about the meowing snails....

Everyone has a show that just drives them up the wall -- something in which they can detect absolutely NO merit and whose popularity sends them around the bend. Around here, "Pokemon" does it to a lot of people.

Me, I love Spongebob -- discovered it only recently. I love the absurdist humor; reminds me a lot of Rocky and Bullwinkle.

SB: "Why are you mad, Patrick?"
P: "I'm mad cuz I can't see my own forehead!"

ROTFL!

Since I generally what SB every time I find it on, and with this being spring break and poor me not able to go to Jamaica, I saw the whole Sandy gets ready for hibernation ep yesterday and the gag that just won't leave me is when they are snow/sandboarding and Sandy bursts into flames and if you watch she's so hot that the sand under her feet turns into glass, hah, and then SB comes by and surfs on his tongue and goes through the snow/sandman, oh man, *crying*

it's too funny, my brain can't handle it.

oh man, *wipes tears from eyes* I had a point, but the hilarity just knocked it out of my brain. Oh yeah Rugrats needs to be put to sleep like the dying, tick infested dog it is.

I think that Spongebob isn't stupid because it revolves around a talking sponge that cover his posterior with pants, I think that makes the show unique. Everyone has seen talking babies, talking mammals (Sea life? Not since Fish Police, so it's rare.), and alien invaders. Who has honestly seen a simplistically witty show about marine invertabrates prior to SpongeBob?

The Snorks. (Although it it was pretty stupid at times. But hey, of such is Hannah-Barbera!)

Sponge Bob is a break from the Klasky Csupo overload, but I don't really care for it. I only ever loved two shows from Nick Invader Zim and Rocko's Modern Life. Ren & Stimpy was allright, but the later episodes ofcourse sucked and so on....

Still gotta say that Spongebob is one of the most enjoyable shows Nick has had on in a long, long time. Not only is it funny but it's a much needed break from the Rugrat fiasco that seems to dominate the Nick channel.
