I wub that show so very much. =D So I have to ask a few quick questions, and, I hope you guys can help me out.
1) This is probably a reaaaally dumb newbie type question (well hey, that's what I am) but what was Sealab 2020 about? I'd like to think I've at least HEARD of a lot of old cartoons, but that one was completely unknown to me until I watched SL2021. I mean, I know what Space Ghost was about and uh, it's clearly nothing like SGC2C. Not that thats bad. =)
2)What's the name of that episode where Debbie's biological clock goes off and she wants to have a baby? That's probably one of my favorites.
3)and finally....someone told me about an episode called "Waking Quinn"(I think) which is a spoof on the movie "Waking Life". I really wanna see the movie, so in turn, I'd also really like to see that episode. Has it been played recently?
Danku!

Okay, here I go:
1.) Sealab 2020 was a really boring, short-lived educational show about taking care of the environment (kinda like Captain Planet, but not nearly as ludicrous). On an intersting note, all the characters in 2020 were renamed for 2021.
2.) Chickmate.
3.) Waking Quinn was aired several weeks ago. Since there aren't that many episodes of Sealab, you can probably catch another rerun soon.

YES! I knew "Waking Quinn" reminded me of SOMETHING. That I didn't notice sooner makes me feel truly idiotic.... by the way, everybody here see "Waking Life". Redefines animation, in a beautiful way, oh, and the movie part is good too.

Now that I think about it, Williams Street must have an independent film thing. There's an upcoming Sealab 2021 titled "Swimming in Oblivion", an obvious reference to the indie film "Living in Oblivion", a comedy which, if I remember correctly, starred Steve Buscemi. It was a pretty funny movie. I'll be interested to see if the episode makes any other references to it.

I remember seeing something on the MC Chris site saying that "If you know where the title ["Swiming into Oblivion"] came from, then you have a pretty good idea how the episode is going to end." That's all paraphrased, as best I can remember it, because the "Toons" section isn't working for me right now.
Also, this is a little of topic, but it really annoys me: how could Waking Life be passed up in the "Best Animation" category for the Academy Awards? They nominated "Jimmy Nuetron" which looks like a low budget CGI Saturday cartoon, but passed up one of the most amazing animated works of art in recent years. The Academy is so stupid.

Speaking of the academy awards...I'm much too lazy to find this out on my own (like so many other things), but what movies were nomiated for best animated picture, 'sides Jimmy Neutron?

The other two kids movies, "Shrek" and "Monsters Inc." That's it. I guess it would have been too much to ask to nominate a fourth movie, or a movie that isn't recognized by everybody.

Actually, there were three films that deserved nominations and didn't recieve them: Final Fantasy, Waking Life, and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Obviously, Waking Life is the biggest offender here, but Vampire Hunter D and FF are both better than Jimmy Neutron. I blame this on the clearly uninformed and Hollywood-biased Academy. This is also evidenced by the fact that they seem to have forgotten that The Royal Tenenbaums, Memento, and Ghost World existed.

I hesitate to make anymore comments about movies. I fear we might get this thread closed pretty soon...but...
With a category like "Best Animated Movie" do they just judge the animation, or do they judge it as a movie. I really liked Final Fantasy, but I'll readily admit that it isn't really a good movie. But it certainly deserves the award more than Jimmy Nuetron...ugh.
Ghost World and Memento totally got robbed. But at least Memento got Best Screenplay and Best Editing nods. And, while it deserves both of those, it also deserves so much more.
I haven't seen The Royal Tenenbaums or Vampire Hunter, but I plan to soon.
I'm sorry. Please don't kill this thread.

I heard 2021 uses the animation from 2020, and just re-animates it using Maya. Can anyone confirm this? It looks too clean to be originally cel-shaded. It looks CGI.
Shnay, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is fan-frickin-tastic (That's what you're talking about, right?). The first (Vamp. Hunter D) was barely medi-core, but bloodlust is AWESOME. WATCH IT!

Yup, that's how they do it. Bits and pieces of it are all new, but most of it's recycled animation from the orignal version. I'll admit, it's very clean looking for a several-decades-old-show, but I know it's not animated digitally. My guess is that when they make new Sealab episodes, they remeaster and retouch the animation a bit. That would explain the overall quality.
