Apparently, AdultSwim.com lists Popeye Show at 1 AM as part of Adult Swim. Not only is this a good thing for TPS, considering new episodes are being made, but it's technically the first time extension to Adult Swim Sundays, now being 3 and a half hours long. Here's Sunday's schedule. I'll update the main site with it soon.

You'd have to be a fool to not like this schedule. Nearly EVERY SINGLE SHOW IS ON IT (except for Bebop).

10:00 PM - Home Movies: #211 - Writer's Block
10:30 PM - Baby Blues: #111 - Bizzy Moves In
11:00 PM - Night of the Living Doo
11:15 PM - Sealab 2021: #8 - Waking Quinn
11:30 PM - Space Ghost Coast to Coast - 1996 - Switcheroo(#1)
12:00 AM - Aqua Teens: #2 - Escape from Leprachanopolis
12:15 AM - Harvey Birdman: #1 - Bannon Custody Case
12:30 AM - Home Movies: #211 - Writer's Block
1:00 AM - The Popeye Show: #8

I can see AS Comedy expanding to a full 4 hours in the near future, especially since Mission Hill, The Oblongs and more pilots (hopefully) are on the way.

There's no Brak on that schedule!

This is awesome news. The only downside I can see is that I'll be even more tired on Monday mornings.

Yeah! I can see it coming 4 hours too real soon.

AS is expanding all the time! You guys have to give it time to really see how it turns out. New acquisitions are being discussed, or made right now. ASA, and ASC will be great blocks once they hit thier stride.

On another note, I was prety pissed when FUNi brought up thier 6-11 demo. But on saturdays kids are staying up late, so I can understand why it got those demos. Really though, I am hoping those parents don't let thier kids watch Bebop.

Instead of just making the current blocks longer and longer, why not keep the current block, and put an hour on every night. I also agree, BRAK!

[indent]There are not enough episodes yet. The only show that this would work with would be Yu Yu Hashukosomethin and Space ghost, but that depends on how many episodes they have dubbed of Yu Yu and Space Ghost would still have to be paired with something else. On the comedy side Home Movies will have the most episodes of any show other than Space Ghost, but it is far from the required number. It generally takes around 100 episodes to run something 5 days a week. Other series on Cartoon Network may run 5 days a week without anywhere close to that many episodes, but there are some other factors to consider. A lot of CN shows run M-F are routinely rotated on and off the block to keep them fresh. There aren't even enough Adult Swim episodes to rotate shows yet, but we may approach that point soon. Finally, adults are far less tolerant of repeats than kids. While 40 to 65 episodes may be enough to satisfy most kids, you will rarely see a show aimed at adults go into sydnication without having at least around 100 episodes first (usually 4-5 seasons at 21-25 eps a season).

I don't see a need to put an old show like Popeye on the block. I think it ruins the purpose of the block which is to give a more "Adut" form of entertainment. Some of the shows on as are pretty funny (Home Movies is the best :D ).

Popeye does not deserve to be on adult swim and as doesn't really need popeye. The current time is just fine and they could always extend it if they want

My guess is Popeye will go bye-bye when a new show comes on.

Epyon you obviously havent watched much of Popeye before, because it is more adult than some series currently running on ASC

I haven't watch any of the popeyes on adult swim but i'm guessing that they're the same old Popeye shows right. If so then i've seen plenty. i remember watchnf them way back then. I don't no how yoo consider it as more adult than some shows. Its just the same as some show (ATHF) i hate that show. So stupid.

Well anyways i still don't thnk that there a purpose for putting popeye as part of as.

I think you folks are missing the point...the idea of "Adult" Swim isn't just about toons that use more suggestive dialogue, etc. (more R-rated type things, in other words)...it's also, apparently, about things with adult appeal. Honestly, a fine show such as The Popeye Show, which restores old cartoons to their original state and gives background behind them, is much more likely to appeal to adults, hence its spot in Adult Swim.

[indent]The old Popeye cartoons were aimed at adults and shown with movies aimed at adults. The Popeye Show provides them in a restored, uncut format while also offering behind the scenes information. This is the kind of stuff a mature audience cares about.

how many people care about behind the scenes. if its aimed at mature adiunces, then why is it that barely any of them watch it. Children watched it like i use to. Theres no humor that'll make people laugh and the action is at a minimal.

And whats Popeye all about, two guys and a girl, Big guy gets girl, little guy eats spinnich, beats big guy, gets girl, girl goes "oh popeye."

They should move it back to its 1 oclock time and replace it with something better. They should double Home Movies like it use to be.

Enough from this, popeye is boring

They're making new episodes of Popeye? That seems kind of...odd. Oh well, I'm glad they're expanding the block, and I can't wait to see Harvey Birdman again!

People need to stop being ignorant.

how many people care about behind the scenes.

A hell of a lot of people.

Toonheads' Wartime Cartoons got outstanding ratings.

if its aimed at mature adiunces, then why is it that barely any of them watch it.

Perhaps because it's at 1 AM.

Children watched it like i use to. Theres no humor that'll make people laugh and the action is at a minimal.

Children watched the cut versions on TV.

Children did not watch Popeye in theaters. Adults did.

Geez, didn't someone already cover this in the thread?

And whats Popeye all about, two guys and a girl, Big guy gets girl, little guy eats spinnich, beats big guy, gets girl, girl goes "oh popeye."

Repetitivity is the curse of all theatrical shorts. The reason that is is because most people back then weren't familiar with Bugs or Popeye or whomever, and often the Popeye or Looney Tune they see at the movies is the first they've ever seen. So they always have to keep similar plot threads. That's why a lot of jokes are shared by Looney Tunes as well. And why there are so many "Wabbit Season, Duck Season" variants.

They should move it back to its 1 oclock time and replace it with something better. They should double Home Movies like it use to be.

Jesus Christ, boy. PAY ATTENTION.

Home Movies already has a repeat in the midnight hour. It doesn't need a THIRD slot.

Popeye IS at 1 AM.

Enough from this, popeye is boring

Enough from you. Learn how to read. Thanks.

Right on, Matt! It's nice to see how other people on Toon Zone care about the classics. What CN ought to do is make a "Classic Adult Swim". This would be regular showings of their shows, like Bugs & Daffy, Tom & Jerry, but in their uncut format. I posted my idea for a "Classic Adult Swim" over at the Termite Terrace Trading Post board.

Nifty idea...maybe Thursday, or Saturday? :) :)

And Matt...Bravo! That's exactly what I was trying to get at, and exactly what a lot of us were thinking :)

By the way, an interesting thing I overheard tonight...one of my coworkers brought up cartoons, and the guy he was talking to said "yeah, I like Popeye, have you seen that new Popeye show? It's really good." Two guys I work with, who I'd never have pegged for toonheads, really like The Popeye Show, too. Neat :).

Isn't Saturday "Adult Swim Action" night? If there's this much commotion over Popeye being included in ASC, then I can't imagine what would happen if even a minute of ASA was removed for Mammy.

Personally, if they did make such a block, I would like to see it late Friday night. That way you have three solid evenings of "Adult Swim" type blocks, each one appealing to a different audience.

I like Home Movies to an extent, but I don't like it being aired so much. I don't think Baby Blues deserves a better time-slot than the other show's, either. Baby Blues is the worst one on there, in my opinion.

I don't think a week has gone by that we havn't seen a Home Movies, most of the time 2, but other great shows get moved around almost weekly. I don't understand how they expect people to know when their favorite show is on, if it comes on at different times every week, sometimes not airing at all.
