Wonderful news indeed. But this bit puzzled me: "We may be able to announce some more info before we close down this site in the end of this month." Is the official Cowboy Bebop site going to shut down after March? That would be really strange.

Yes, the official Cowboy Bebop website is closing down at the end of this month. While this show is now in its heyday here in North America, Cowboy Bebop is actually 4 1/2 years old. In Japan, Cowboy Bebop is pretty much ready to pass into the realm of "classic" anime series.

This is fantastic! Now just give us a theatrical release, and I will bow at the feet of Columbia-Tristar forever.

Yes, I mean the Knockin on Heaven's Door movie. If Escaflowne, Metropolis, and Spirited Away are any indicationthen you can expect to see the Cowboy Bebop movie in US theaters sometime this year. It'll probably be a limited release in major cities, though. So, if you live in Des Moines, you might be out of luck.
This makes a release a lot easier and more coherient with the series. I hate it when they change actors and people are like "He dosen't sound like that."

Yay! Good news for all.
So the Bebop site is closing eh? Too bad they won't make one for us American fans.

I'm crossing my fingers that the movie comes to Austin. We've got an arthouse theater that's pretty consistent with picking up anime (Metropolis just finished it's run here), so hey, I can dream.
Over here, I have to drive out to Manhattan to see these films. It's easier to wait untill they're out on DVD.

Does anyone know if it's gonna be in the Providence/Boston area? (Yes, I am willing to drive 3 hours to go see that movie) More importantly...when? WHEN will it be here? I need to see Spike and Faye and Jet and Ein and Ed! Maybe Vicious, too..=P if he's nice...

It's a little early to speculate on venues but I'd think that Boston would be one. When release time nears check out the AnimeOnDVD.COM forums to see if there's a site gathering going to the Boston viewing. The site owner lives up there and there's a 'sizeable' crowd that attends the bigger metro area shows (like LA, NYC, Boston, etc)

if memory serves me right, then i think in the fall
Is there any chance that it will be released everywhere? I guess Cowboy Bebop (and anime in general) isn't exactly mainstream entertainment...

Well, it's had TV exposure, which DOES give it a one up over all the other anime movies released this year, or, err, 2001 that is. I'd say that it'll probably get the biggest non-Pokemon/Digimon release yet, bigger than Spriggan or Jin-Roh or Escaflowne or Ghost in the Shell or Perfect Blue, and tying with Princess Mononoke/Metropolis. If I'm correct then, you can pretty much expect it to pop up in your city as long as you have at least 2 arthouse theaters. It won't get a, like, mainstream release though. But it will be on the higher end, in terms of screens, of the artfilm spectrum.
I wish I wasn't so new to anime. What are artfilms and where can I find them?

If I'm understanding the usage in this thread, it's referring to films with niche audiences. Usually they're released to smaller movie houses that cater to these releases/audiences.

It's very early to speculate on how the film will be released. Understand that Mononoke Hime was a spectacular, embarassing, and expensive failure in US theaters. It cost Disney tens of millions of dollars to acquire and produce the American version of the film, and it did less than $3 million total box office in theaters. Metropolis, on the other hand, was not expected to do as well as it has. To date, it's done just over $530,000 in US theaters. That doesn't sound like a lot when it comes to box office totals, but it was expected to do significantly less than it has. Metropolis has done so well, in fact, that they have delayed the DVD release of the movie by six weeks. This will enable them to extend the theatrical run.
Releasing the Cowboy Bebop movie is a risk. What they do with it remains to be seen.

I am a dedicated CB fan but I havn't heard a thing about this movie. I wasn't really listening I guess. Does anyone know what it is about? Any ideas as to when it will come out on dvd?
