I agree with the casting of Spike and Jet, and Heaven forbid they get a natural brunette to play Faye...not to mention someone who can ably wear the outfit. ;)

Funny, I was just thinking earlier today about how Cowboy Bebop would never work as a live action movie. Bebop is far more than its story or characters, it's an exercise in style and mishmashed genres; the graphic design is as inextricable from the series as the music. A movie could have a story and setting similar to bebop, and it could be very good, but it wouldn't be the all-encompassing vision that is Cowboy Bebop. Not that I have to tell any of you this.

That said, the poster and tagline was still pretty neato. And Clancy Brown would be a decent Jet.

oh god... thats awful.

As someone said earlier, god forbid they actually get someone asian (or atleast a brunette -_-) to play Faye. Just handpicking your favorite actress doesn't cut it.

I can't believe some of you are actually considering a live-action cowboy bebop film. Seriously. But if you had to cast a Faye, I think it would have to go to Mira Sorvino. Yea Buddy.

Mira Sorvino? They'd need to get an asian actress.

But it's not like it's gonna happen. . . yeesh, nobody can take a joke these days. :p

Ok I went to the site. There's NO WAY that Cameron Diaz could play a good Faye. There HAS GOT to be a better choice than her.

Clancy Brown? Well, He could work. I don't know. It'd be iffy but he may be able to play Jet.

Stephen Dorff? COME ON! Where's the Hair?

You can't be the Guy with the Frizzy hair, without the frizzy hair!!

(good thing that's only a consept)

* The Z-MAN Shudders at the thought of Cameron Diaz playing Faye.

Lesse Here... Go to the IMDB.... Looking up actresses

Ok, Jessica Biel Has the correct bone structure, but I don't know if Her acting skills would be up to par...

AH HA! there's one, Tia Carrere. Hmmm, haven't seen her in any movies recently though...

Carrie-Ann Moss? Hmmm she's probably unavailable (what with all the matrix movies and things)

Oh well. I do Know I wouldn't want it to be Diaz. (But I've got to go to class NOW.) Who would be a good Faye?

If I had to pick actors for Cowboy Bebop, I'd probably go with all unknowns. In almost all movies I can just sort of "forget" that these celebrities we see everywhere (don't even get me started) are playing the role of a certain character. But, with Bebop, I think the characters are already so developed in the minds of the fans that using any actors couldn't work, and using well known actors would be much worse.

If you're making a movie out of a book, you can't tell how people have percieved the characters in their minds, so you do the best to create the image that you see of the character for the movie. But, with something visual that has already been created, like the characters of Bebop, you lose the luxury of creative freedom.

Well, that's my opinion anyway. Stick with the people who are still "unknowns," and it will make it that much easier to believe that they are these characters who we've come to expect in animated form.

I think it might POSSIBLY work, if and only if, Bruce Lee was reincarnated in Keanu Reeves (dang, that boy just can't act, but he somewhat looks the part).

Ray Parks (that's the guy who play Darth Maul, the "Headless" Horseman, and Toad, right?) might fit the part, if he didn't have that accent.

"Yeah, he comes and goes" -Keanu

There are some anime series that I sometimes think would make good live action films. If it had a big enough budget (and I mean a MASSIVE budget- certainly anything bigger than ever before), I think Gundam could make a GREAT live action movie. Historically, however, all live action movies based on anime series have sucked. City Hunter's the exception (stupid, yes, but pleasantly so). Cowboy Bebop is one of those animes which would never, ever, EVER, work in live action. All the budget and good acting and solid musical scores in the world couldn't make it work. It just belongs in the world of animation. Why not make an live-action version of its biggest influence, Lupin the 3rd? That'd be much easier.

Have any movies based on anime been made in the current age of special effects? I can't think of any made in the US. Actually, I can't offhand think of any at all made in the US, except for Fist Of The North Star. I think movie versions could be a lot better now than in the past. Especially because the trend lately with similar properties has had directors and writers who really are interested in staying true to the source material. X-Men, Harry Potter, Lord Of The Rings, movies like these had their high and low points, but compare them to the days of, say, the Masters Of The Universe movie, where it's obvious that they just plain didn't care. The producers of these recent movies do show at least some measure of dedication to staying true, or at least an understanding that it's the best way to please moviegoers.

That said, I'm not a fan of making live-action versions of _any_ animated property. It's one thing to do it for a comic book or video game, but with animation you're not even changing the medium. It just doesn't make sense, and suggests that animation is a lesser form of moving picture.

Dragoball Movie...

It happened...

And Fox is making it...

Don't think CB is safe...

If a Movie can be made from a arcade game like Crazy Taxi, a movie can be made from CB. No one said it will be good, but it can happen.

Just hope it NEVER happens. That is all we can do.

Cowboy Bebop live action would look silly! A character may look good when animated a certain way, but if that character were brought to life, that character may not look as good. The character design for Spike is great. In animation! In real life, a skinny guy with frizzy, green hair looks like a clown!

It's a much better idea for Bebop to go Live-Action than Ninja Scroll, Dragonball, Fist of the North Star, or Guyver.

I like the second one's Spike, but I like the first ones Faye and Jet. I don't agree with any of 'em, though.

I do find it concieveable that they COULD make a good Cowboy Bebop movie. Hopefully, It would be written by the Real writer of C.B. and the director would be advised by the director of the anime episodes.

Is there a possability of them screwing it up? sure. But on the other hand, with modern technology making ANY special effect possible, their ability to pull it off right is looking pretty good.

(As for the DBZ Movie, Likewise. Prior to the availability of advanced computer effects, a live action version MUST have sucked. I can only assume that this will also be a decent try.)

Afterall, recent Comic Book Movies have been excellent IE: Blade, X-men, etc.

As long as they don't turn it into another "Super Mario Brothers Movie" (Which auctually, considering the available source material was an 8 bit video game with no plot came off pretty well) I'll be happy.

Nah, Dragonball is an entirely different animal from the X-Men or even Cowboy Bebop. Bebop is set in the future, but the world is still essentially ours, just with some modifications. Ditto for Blade or X-Men. Essentially, all of those three are also drawn in at least semi-realistic ways. Because of the detailed art styles, you could dress up actors like Spike or Blade or Wolverine because they're drawn semi-realistic anyway. But the very art style of Toriyama throws all ideas of a Dragonball movie out the window. There's NO way you can transplant his look to live action- the spiky hair and curved buildings and energy blasts would all look too strange. Yeah, you could accurately recreate all of those onscreen but it would be impossible for the audience to hold on to their suspension of disbelief. Everything would look SO cheesey and out- there, even if it was replicated perfectly, that it would alienate 99% of viewers. That whole Dragonball world of dinosaurs and talking dogs and hair that changes colors would be impossible to take seriously in the live-action format, but it's also vital to the series. Thus, a live action Dragonball, even 100% accurate, is as big a violation to the original as a live action Pokemon would be. Hell, it's worse really. You have two choices in doing a live action Dragonball- A) transplanting everything accurately and ending up with a movie which looks and sounds so absurd it'd be impossible to enjoy on a respectable level, and B) changing things around enough to resemble our world more, which completely and totally violates the feel of the original. It's a lose-lose situation.

A CB live action film could be incredible. I'm not saying it would, it would probably suck ass. But with the right actors, the original director, and totally cut Ed out (I love her, but Shnay was right, some stupid kid trying to act like Ed would just ruin the whole Ed experience), WOW, something amazing could be made.
