View Full Version : Favourite "Archies" Song
Obviously "Sugar Sugar" is the best and most famous song by the Archies. It was also a big hit for Wilson Picket. What other songs by the Archies do you like? You can hear some of these songs on the Archie Comics web site.
Here are some of my faves:
Get On The Line- this is simply a real good garagy type rocker that you can imagine a 1960s Neil Diamond sing.
Kissing- sounds sort of like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, but to me, it reminds me of something Buddy Holly would have done had he lived.
Jingle Jangle- one of the rare Archies songs that is sung by a female, perhaps Betty is singing it?
Love Vibrations- shame that this song was never on an album. I would have liked to hear the song in its entirety. On the cartoon show, it fades before the second refrain ends.
Sunshine- a nice little funky number. Not to be confused with a Partridge Family song of the same title.
Catching Up On Fun- a nice folk rocker that reminds me of Pretty Flamingo by Mannfred Mann.
Bang Shang A Lang- A great bubblegum song. It was their first hit song.

Say what?
When did "Wicked" Wilson Pickett record "Sugar Sugar"? It would help if you had additional information.
My personal favorites:
A Circle of Blue
One Big Family

I can add some info about that, Wilson Pickett's version of Sugar Sugar was on the Billboard Charts in 1970; I remember hearing the song during a replay on XM of the first American Top 40 so it was on the chart during the Week of July 11, 1970. Quick correction: according to Wikipedia, it peaked at #24 on Billboard's Hot 100 Chart and peaked at #4 on Billboard's R&B Chart

I haven't really heard that many, but my favourites are probably the main opening theme "Everything's Archie" and what seems to be a fairly obscure one called "Time for Love." I can't find that song anywhere, on any CDs, or on the internet... I only remember it from an old video of the Archie Show I rented a long time ago. I've found it mentioned on a few sites, but I can't find any way to hear it, apart from buying the whole series on DVD.

I wouldn't say Jingle Jangle is my "favorite", but it is a song that stands out. Incidentally, while it is supposed to be either Betty or Veronoica singing it, it was actually none other than Ron Dante (the primary singing voice of The Archies) using a falsetto. I kid you not. I swear I'm not making this up.
Mr. Factory is a song from Archie's Funhouse, and is noted for being a song about conservation and eveything. So, they have been known to do songs with a message. Interestingly enough, Sugar Sugar never appeared on any Archie episode, although there was a promotional "music video" (as we would now call it) for the song. My understanding is that it aired on The Archie Comedy Hour at one point.

My favorite songs from the Archies are "You Make Me Wanna Dance," "Sunshine," and "Jingle Jangle."
But, "The Stick Shift" from the Dance of the Week segment remains my top favorite, mainly because of that catchy bass!

Mine too. I actually managed to get a Best of Archies CD with that song on it several years ago on Amazon.
