Justin is finally making his move, but I’m still rooting for him. He may be a narcissistic manipulator, but I like how he has the sense to treat everybody with respect unless he’s alone. That was Heather’s downfall last season, as she made too many enemies, but Justin is doing everything right in order to keep everybody on his side. Whether or not they can see through his charade later on in the season remains to be seen, but I wish him well.

Be more harsh? Suddenly, it's against the law to be superstitious...even though it kinda came out of nowhere.
- Nice that the net seems to be easing up on the cuts...or maybe, they're so concerned with their live-action shows, they've already stopped caring about their animated ones.
- I'm not angling to join Heather's fan club, but the salt and pepper...that was a bit much.
- Harold is so ridiculous with his many 'quote-unquote' skills.
- "Me like beans." Yikes.
- Getting back to Trent, he was moonwalking. That deserves respect.
- Bacon and fakon. I'm willing to bet that fakon really exists.
- Beth is just so sweet. I hope she sees through Justin.

Wow. Nobody was voted off. I'm kind of at a lost here...
I know! In lieu of a retrospective, on episodes where nobody's voted off, I can do a most valuable camper thing.
Okay, here's my final three:
-Duncan: His rad surfing skills won the Screaming Gaffers round one.
-Beth: She had a really good idea and was able to turn her team around and get them to work together (in spite of Trent's antics).
-Harold: Also took charge of the sand castle for the Screaming Gaffers, and even Duncan admitted he was a good Dancer (Leshawna's performance notwithstanding).
And the Gilded Chris for "Beach Blanket Bogus" goes to...

Trent... Trent... what happened to ya'? What happened to that cool guy? Duncan seems to really be getting to him.
Wow... Lindsay actually seems to be the "leader," for lack of a better word, between her and Beth. Who'd have thunk it? Beth seemed to echo Lindsay a lot, anyway. Still smarter than Lindsay, which I guess isn't really saying much, but she did come up with a way for them to build the sand castle which, ultimately, won them that round.
Not only did Lindsay know the name of Antarctica, but even knew it was someplace really cold :p!
The end with Justin hearing Chris was hilarious. Absolutely didn't see that coming!

Speaking of Lindsay, I have stated it a few times, as recentely the previous episode's thread. And since I mention Archie Comics previously.
Who thinks Lindsay is a carbon copy of Melody Valentine from Josie And The Pussycats? Melody if I may say is a classic fan service character, and she is not a manga / anime character.

Wasn't able to watch the CN version of this episode (out of town currently), but here's the edited-from-my-Teletoon-viewing review of the episode anyway:
An amusing episode, though might've benefited from more direct parodies of the old beach movies (say, the cast's female members forced to wear tacky early 60s hairdos ;-) ).
Being way closer to Chris' age (if not even older) than the teens on this show's age, had to empathize with him on the weird/blank looks the TDA cast gave him over describing the beach film genre... which I thought was the one weird part of the episode (see "Movie Genre" remarks below for why).
Movie Genre:
The beach film: What we think of as the classic "beach film" genre today had a relatively short-lived movie lifespan, largely being confined to the 1960s. The most famous of the beach movies were a series of films starring former 50s "Mickey Mouse Club" star Annette Funicello and then-teen-idol Frankie Avalon. The Funicello-Avalon films are where the familiar elements Chris mentioned were seen----bullies on the beach, singing and dancing contests, limbo parties, and the most iconic aspect, surfing (said films probably helped just add to surfing's then-big popularity). The episode's title stems from the 1965 Avalon-Funicello film "Beach Blanket Bingo".
While they had a short-lived lifespan as movies, the elements seen in the beach film managed to have a much longer lifespan on television----to the point where pretty much any sitcom that goes to a beach invokes many or all of these elements, either as parodies (as "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" did once) or played straight (see: "Baywatch"... or, apparently, the upcoming series "Stoked"). Thus, while the TDA teens might not've seen any of the old beach films, I don't think they should've had *quite* as stunned expressions---given they've probably seen the elements on 90s/2000s sitcoms, etc.
Yes, I said "90s/2000s" specifically... given the show's given me the impression the gang probably haven't bothered watching anything made before they were born (which would be circa-1993 if they're all 16-year-olds) or anything not playing currently at the multiplex. Which I'd think would mean trouble for dealing with a contest based on *film genres*, however loosely. Thus, I could see Chris (observent sadist that he is) picking up on this and coming up with all manner of challenges based on stuff they've never seen---silent film melodramas? Buster Keaton/Charlie Chaplin/Marx Bros. comedies? ;-)
Finally, I note that this challenge comes up at a point when the two contestants who either might've actually seen/heard of the beach film genre, if not basically living examples of such---Geoff and Bridgette---are long gone. ;-)
For more on classic beach films:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beach_party_film
Comments:
- Trent seems to be losing it, unfortunately for him and his team.
- Beth is certainly earnest... imagine things'll turn ugly for her and Justin before long (first Heather, now this...). Assuming Justin, as I'm guessing, does turn into this season's "Heather" and go full-villain, given TDA's "Hollywood" premise seems tailor-made for him (and Lindsey). ;-)
- Typical Chris hijinks here---a surf contest in frigid-cold conditions, and a sand castle contest back at Camp Wawanakwa's beaches.
- LeShawna busts a move.... though not as good a move as Harold (!).
- Nobody voted off---another filler episode....
Old-but-amusing cartoon gags:
- Water instantaneously freezing as soon as it comes in contact with cold air gets used in a few old cartoons; here, we see it with Lindsey's tanning lotion.
Canadianisms:
- Per my trip a few years ago to Toronto, I'd like to point out that A) Muskoka is two hours' north of Toronto (according to Google Maps anyway), and B) Toronto *has* a set of rather nice beaches on the islands in its bay... no need for a two-hour road trip back to Wawanakwa. Then again, it *is* Chris. :-p
Next week:
- Looks like a Western parody. See you then...
-B.

I will not be surprised if there's an episode parodying superhero movies.

Returning the favor, you should check out Josie And The Pussycats both the comic book and the cartoon series (personally I like the comic book better, even though I love the cartoon also and you can't hear the music in the comics), as well as Jem.
We all know who I think Lindsay should be, if they parodied animated bands, the Pussycats drummer. She is so perfect for that. As we know from the characters in this episode, we have the personel to make up the Neptunes.

I don't mean that Neptunes. I meant the fictional band from the show Jabberjaw. Which was 4 teenagers and a talking shark named Jabberjaw on drums.

So, we're going to pad out this season by just randomly not voiting people off in certain episodes? Hmm...
So, Harold mentioned his familiarity with Frank Gehry, "The greatest architect of our times." Being an architect, I cannot let this pass without comment... Either Harold, or the writers, have no idea what they are talking about. Because the sandcastle Harold designed is nothing--nothing!--like a Frank Gehry building! The lumpy food they had for breakfast--that could pass for a Gehry design. The sandcastle--never....
Once again, Duncan shows how awesome he can be. Winning the first part of the challenge, ripping on others, sabatoging the van... All without loosing his cool. I like the developments with Justin, too. Poor Beth is going to devestated...
But Trent....That was just...random...
If they do do a parody of Superhero films, it would not work unless Harold was still around for the challenge.

So they really went back to the beach, huh?
Trent apparently has an obsession with the number nine, particularly when it comes to him and Gwen. Don't quite understand it, but I'm not sure if I'm Gwen that I'd want to be with a guy that does things in nines. ;)
I also have this premonition that Beth's gonna get bitten in this game again, this time by Justin. I feel sad for her.
And did anyone completely lose it when Lindsay told Trent to shake his 'lady lumps?' Ha ha ha... that was golden!

Well according to what Duncan said, since Trent loves Gwen so much, the fact that if you pair those two together you get 9 letters between them. Then there was some other 9 stuff but that was the one that stuck out with me.

When did this Trent being weird thing start?
Pretty much this episode since I don't believe Trent had this weird obsession with the number nine before this episode.
I finally got a chance to see the episode yesterday and I thought that it was pretty cool. Even though Duncan did that prank with Trent in the first few minutes of the episode, I still thought that he was pretty awesome. He won the surfing board contest and he seemed so relaxed throughout the dance competition.
I was surprised with Trent's obsession with nine since that virtually came out of nowhere. And it also kind of went against how he was the calm kind of musician back in TDI. I also thought that it went a bit too far to the point where it was becoming creepy. Hopefully, he won't be doing that so much from now on.
I do give Trent credit for doing a good job on the dance off, even though he threw it so Gwen's team could win.
I thought that Beth did a good job with pulling the team together. She was so nice to Justin and he was really nice to her too. I hope that she learns of his true nature soon. I also should give Justin credit since, unlike Heather, he seems to have a better plan. Heather had no problem with showing off her true nature back in TDI, which makes it harder for her here. Justin can actually act nice and pretty convincing as well since he was able to fool a lot of people that he was really nice to Beth.
Overall, a nice episode. I was surprised that no one was voted off though. I'll take a look at the next new episode on Thursday.
